  1. arod also had 6 k's, to jeter's 4 - i guess he should've grounded into more dp's, right?
  2. jeter also out-lob'ed arod, 8 runners left on base to 6. jeter even had 3 gidp's, in only 4 games! but, and i'm certain this will be highlighted over jeter's failures, arod did leave exactly one runner in scoring position with two outs, to jeter's none. (and matsui's 4, and abreu's 2, and damon, cabrera, posada and cano's 1) it'll all boil down to arod hitting a homer too little too late.
  3. while i understand the ease with which it can be manipulated, i still like it. mind you, i'd like it better if it made the player ineligible for the entire remainder of the postseason, but if you have a player go down in the first game, you should be allowed to replace him and not be forced to play shorthanded for the remainder of the series.
  4. jeezus... could mr. announcer guy be any more excited that the yankees scored? i'm waiting for him to describe the yankees as "we"
  5. y'know... arod now has a higher batting average, slg, and obp in the ALDS this year than derek jeter. and just as many strikeouts. that bum!
  6. he also set the single season record for plate appearances with 778, topping dykstra's 773 from '93. jose reyes places 5th with 765 this year.
  7. i was there early this year to see the home team lose, and tehre were some fans complaining that the old colors were so much better. i disagreed, naturally. but they do have a really nicely stocked merchandise section. and good beers. not as good as the leinenkugel summer shandy's in minnesota, but still good. certainly better than bud, bud light, or bud select if you're lucky. in both places though, they're stupid enough to throw baseballs back onto the field.
  8. would you also suggest that willie has a problem with winning in june?
  9. could you post the september records please? at work i cannot see anything on blogspot.
  10. warp-wise 4.0, he's 5th best behind maine 5.2 , wagner 5.1, heilman 4.1, and duque 4.1, of the pitching staff, and just ahead of perez 3.9. as far as win shares, he's tied with maine, perez, and wagner at 11, duque is at 10. but that includes hitting... pitching-wise, he's at 10.8, while maine and perez are at 12.9 and 12.2 respectively, and wagner and duque are both at 10.6 his average game score was well behind the whole lot of them... tho that is likely submarined by lack of strikeouts than solely lack of effectiveness. of course, glavine had 23 quality starts, to maine and duque's 17, and perez' 16. surely that must count for something, no?
  11. this is where all of scott's points came from in september, in case anybody cares. Stat value points IP 9.65 19.3 H 7 -1.75 R 6 -4.5 ER 5 -2.5 BB 3 -1.5 SO 9 6.75 HR 2 -1 W 0 0 L 0 0 BS 0 0 H3 1 1.5 H2 0 0 H1 0 0 SV3 1 4 SV2 0 0 SV1 1 8 IR 14 28 IRS 0 0 HBP 0 0 WP / Balk 0 0 CG 0 0 SHO 0 0 GS 0 0 QS 0 0 GF 3 0.75
  12. ugh... i was using the old formula for half of the month in that list. the new list shows schoeneweis (13 sp) as the #7 met for september. that certainly isn't right! and heilman is down at 15th (8.5 sp - that's 35% more beer!) i think the problem is two-fold. i give too many points which unfairly suppresses those who perform well in wins compared to those who perform well in losses. this primarily affects relievers, like schoeneweis, who got most of his opportunities in losing efforts in september. as a result, his points were not scaled down as much as would be another pitcher who performed the same level of effort in a win. on an absolute scale, heilman got 41 points to schoeneweis' 57.2 points, which is better, but still 28% more. while scotty [u:52cfdac11f]did[/u:52cfdac11f] inherit and strand 14 baserunners in the month, i'm not sure that merits more than aaron's month, y'know... i'm quite clearly over-pointing for inherited runners stranded. if only my uber-spreadsheet were more useful, i could change that one value and see what it does to the total... but its a bitch... really, a bitch.
  13. this is what i got for the month - basically, wright barely edges beltran, and pedro is my pitcher of the month. interestingly, scott schoeneweis is my reliever of the month! 16. if the voters look at mvp numbers, then there's no way holliday doesn't get it. but wright woulda got my vote, had i one.
  17. well, i don't think that juan had too many full seasons, let alone 10...
  18. rockies 3 cubs 5 indians 4 sox 5 cubs 5 sox 6 sox 6
  19. dare we enter next year with ruben gotay as our primary second baseman?
  20. when pittsburgh won the superbowl, it was all about how impressive and inspiring their battle against all odds was. in baseball, it'd be a shame.
  21. true, but that WC team would have had to overcome perhaps having had to spend their ace in the WC-play-in game. also, the more we decry "an 84-win team" winning it all, the more pointless it is to even have the playoffs. we should just award the world series to the team with the best record right now, and save everybody some time.
  22. last i checked, win shares on the hardball times hadn't been updated since 18 sept, when wright had a sizeable lead over pujols and the rest of the field. vorp-wise, wright comes in second behind hanley ramirez. warp-wise, wright takes the cake. i had put in that chart way back on page 2 i think, and nothing much has really changed wrt the relative rankings, tho the numbers have all gone up somewhat. bottom line is that wright was still arguably the best player in the nl this year
  23. there are so many damned runs created sites out there... and none of them agree. hardball times disagrees with bbref which disagrees with espn.com the underlying thread is that if wright isn't the best hitter in the NL, he's in the top three. player RC THT RC ESPN RC BBREF AVG wright 136 138.4 146 140.13 holliday 129 142.2 149 140.07 ramirez 130 136.5 141 135.83 fielder 127 135.5 143 135.17 cabrera 138 126.2 132 132.067 rollins 122 133.4 135 130.13 pujols 122 126.9 132 126.97 c jones 116 121.4 130 122.47 utley 109 121.3 130 120.1 reyes 107 112.2 110 109.73 beltran 104 107.1 109 106.7 byrnes 99 108 108 105 bonds 91 97.1 99 95.7 ... rank RC THT RC ESPN RC BBREF AVG wright 2 2 2 2 holliday 4 1 1 2 ramirez 3 3 4 3.33 fielder 5 4 3 4 cabrera 1 7 6 4.67 rollins 6 5 5 5.33 pujols 6 6 6 6 c jones 8 8 8 8 utley 9 9 8 8.67 reyes 10 10 10 10 beltran 11 12 11 11.33 byrnes 12 11 12 11.67 bonds 13 13 13 13 but i don't think the voters look at this stuff...
