  4. that raises a good point. what return for a 7.0 WAR player would be considered equitable?

  6. so i generate three metrics in the course of my schaefer voting: 1. marathon points, which can be positive or negative and are deterministic. 2. schaefer points, which are the six highest marathon points for a given game, and are deterministic. 3. schaefer votes, which are those same schaefer points, scaled to 10 ok, really they're scaled to 9.5 with a 0.5 vote bonus to the highest vote-getter, unless the schaefer points don't total more than 19, in which case i just halve the schaefer points and nobody gets a bonus. its complicated... ike davis has about a 10% lead in each of these categories, with reyes, wright, and beltran taking second in each metric respectively. without winding up the 'bot, i can tell you that ike also has a 20% lead in both his voting and the baseline WPA metric. for summary: mpspsvbotwpaplayer 1davis82.8davis96.5davis22.6davis30.3davis1281player 2reyes66.5wright84.8beltran19.8wright23.8murphy744pitcher 1rodriguez41.7rodriguez48.7beato13beato6.9isringhausen413pitcher 2beato39.8beato39.3rodriguez10.5rodriguez6.5young278reliever 1rodriguez41.7rodriguez48.7beato13beato6.9isringhausen413reliever 2beato39.8beato39.3rodriguez10.5rodriguez6.5rodriguez235

Yeah, but you'd still be a douchebag if you called someone that. Hey, look. That insult still works. I also like moron; that would fit someone using that term (now, or then) well too. moron 2. Psychology A person of mild mental retardation having a mental age of from 7 to 12 years and generally having communication and social skills enabling some degree of academic or vocational education. The term belongs to a classification system no longer in use and is now considered offensive.

  21. i'd much prefer a one game playoff to a three-gamer. way more exciting, and better overall for scheduling. i don't want too much time off between rounds. i also think the current playoff scheduling is a farce. they should be playing 7 games in 8 days, not two weeks, or whatever it is. the playoffs should be as a continuation of the regular season in terms of pacing and scheduling. no modern pitcher should be getting three starts in a series with any semblance of his normal rest.
  22. ooh, i like that one!
  23. Comment From Tim If you got into a bar fight and had to pick one player to be by your side to help, who would it be? Andy McCullough: R.A. Dickey and I could reason with them. fuck that. i set frankie loose and sneak out in the melee, leaving me unscathed and also a hero to millions.

The Second Spitter wrote: Niese 3 Beltran 1.25 Beato 0.75 Davis 0.75 CPF: Where QS are worth shit. with 7 hits, 5 walks and only 3 strikeouts over the course of 6 innings, and drawing the loss decision, i've got niese's outing as worth a maximum of 0.5 schaeffer votes. getting tagged for the loss hammered him down -2.5 votes (it's not always fair, and may not be in this case, but it also allows me to hammer losing relievers). his fielding drops him down -0.15 votes as he shares the blame with his catcher for a stolen base, but receives some credit for starting a double play. and finally, his batting, rather his going 0-2 with a strikeout, drags him down a further -0.75 votes for a net negative on the day. for the total tally we've got: 6 IP * 1.5 = 9 7 H * -0.5 = -3.5 2 R * -0.75 = -1.5 2 ER * -0.75 = -1.5 (this means that unearned runs are only half as deleterious to a pitcher's schaeffer vote) 5 BB * -0.5 = -2.5 3 K * 0.5 = 1.5 1 L * -2.5 = -2.5 1 GS = -1.5 1 QS = 3 (these two are a fairly clunky way of administering a demerit for failing to make a QS) 2 AB * -0.25 = -0.5 1 SO * -0.25 = -0.25 1 DPstart * 0.125 = 0.125 1 SBA * -0.25 = -0.25 for a total of -0.375 for the game. no beer for you, niesey!
