  1. Someone else needs to be thanked: The Mets medical staff. They were the ones who supposedly quashed the Carlos Gomez trade. If we have Gomez, we have no Yo.
  2. I hadn't expected this to resolve so soon. But it's great news; the team needs a dependable slugger like Yo if it's going to get a championship.
  3. d'Kong76 wrote: With regards to comment one, nobody really decides. They have a rule that if you get 10 years, you make the ballot. Grumpy HOF comment: That's a dumb rule, which I suppose is my point that I didn't clearly make but geez if you're not an all-star you're not a HOF'r and putting people on the ballot like that is a waste of time and energy. Mr. Met has more HOF credentials than Casey Blake. It's part of the basic agreement with the Player's Association, who wanted a simple set of criteria so no one felt snubbed. Personally, it no big deal. The players get some egoboo, but they know they're not getting in. It's like when I made the preliminary ballot for the Nebula award -- nice to see, but I wasn't going to even be a finalist.
  4. I thought it'd be about Bartolo.
  5. I think it was simple. He wanted ten wins. He was not likely to start regularly for the Mets, who have six young pitchers ready to go, so he went with a team that could promise him he'll be pitching every five days.
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: Do you suppose the Braves are worried that he'll take their big contract and come into camp out of shape? How could they tell?
  7. The home run, obviously. But what I most remember about Bartolo is the joy he showed in playing the game. He was out there to have fun, and let everyone know it.
  8. Look, if the other pitchers come through, you can always trade Colon to an AL contender.
  9. Yes, but where did they get the goat?
  10. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I saw that too. It was written by a Rays fan, so he's not really taking the Mets perspective into account. That's typical of all these proposals. "We can trade d'Arnaud for superstar player X." Sure, but why would the other team agree to the deal? Because they're not in business to help the Mets.
  11. Cubs. 1. It's been a long time. 2. I saw a Mets game at Wrigley and the Cubs fans were incredibly welcoming, even knowing I was rooting for the Mets. It's truly the friendly confines. 3. Giving David Wright the third base bag last year. Now, that's class. 4. My daughter is in Chicago and works near Wrigley. She's never cared for baseball, but it getting into it a bit this year.
  12. I started collecting baseball cards in 1961, when I found about 50 out them on the sidewalk. I took it as a sign and collected seriously through the 60s. I still kept buying a few packs each year, and picked up representatives of Tools from every year they were made (except for 1951 blue backs, which were too expensive). I stopped after 1994. I don't care for modern cards; the glossy backs are just plain wrong.
  13. Goodnight Mets Goodnight Wright Goodnight the game going long into the night Goodnight Yo And the home run blow Goodnight Jacob Goodnight Matt Goodnight Noah And goodnight Ynoa Goodnight Colon And goodnight Loney (Here one season only) Goodnight little Flores And goodnight many mores Goodnight stars Goodnight air Good night noises everywhere
  14. Reyes's 2018 option is for $4 million, but Colorado pays all but $500 k
  15. Can Bruce demand a release? He's a 5-year vet in the middle of a multiyear contract.
  16. Traded to get Hodges from the Senators:
  17. The Mets have a minor league pitcher with the delightful name of Nelmerson Xavier Mariano Silvano Angela. No Cal Mclish, but still...
  18. Did anyone think back in April that Harvey would lead the team in losses?
  19. I just realized -- they clinched this on the 55th anniversary of the first MLB game I ever attended.
  20. Bruce! [youtube:3a36oui6]Bo0RpBGHjwA[/youtube:3a36oui6] "One of these day's you're gonna get it right."
  21. Edgy MD wrote: A disadvantage except for pitchers of course. Not always.
  22. Maybe this could work out: Tebow homers on first professional pitch. I know, meaningless at this level. But clearly he's no joke.
  23. Nymr83 wrote: Hey, Mets, can you loan the Jets a couple of those touchdowns? When the game ended, I checked the Jets score. That was 17-0, too.
  24. He's lucky he's got the 40-man roster.
