  1. With a 1.013 OPS, he's like XXXIMMO these days.....
  2. With our luck, they'll score five runs and deGrom will give up six.
  3. Vic Sage wrote: Edgy MD wrote: And since the Mets have his UCL and his rib, they can clone him if necessary. it WILL WORK! "We can rebuild him. We have the technology......."
  4. His talent is wasted on this team. If they can't compete, they might as well get something for him. Agree. I would *hate* this so very much. But I agree. As Branch Rickey said to Ralph Kiner: "We finished last with you, we can finish last without you."
  5. Glad he got anything at all for him.
  6. Unfortunately, scoring 5 runs and only allowing one is not a repeatable formula for this team. Most nights they struggle just to get 5 HITS.
  7. It's like a bottomless pit right now. Gallows humor is all we've got.
  8. The problem with playing 'weak' teams is that the Mets are the weakest team in baseball right now. The Orioles came in at 17-49 and swept the Mets in two games in Citi. Weak teams are licking their chops when they see the Mets on the schedule.
  9. I've decided to compile a list of my worries. 1) Everything.
  10. Someone's got to pay the price for this shitshow, and the hitting (or lack thereof) is a major component of the problem. See ya.
  11. You know, 20 years or so ago, you had to be careful walking on the beaches down the shore because hypodermic needles would sometimes wash up on the sand along with all the other trash. Not sure why that thought popped into my head right now.
  12. You know, my big worry is that Jacob deGrom is going to go postal one of these days. It's always the quiet ones you have to watch out for.
  13. Now I know how Bob Gibson lost 9 games with an ERA of 1.12 in 1968. He must have had the Mets hitting behind him.
  14. 1 hit through 7 innings. Yeah, that'll get it done.
  15. Benjamin Grimm wrote: In your dreams. (Mine, too)
  16. Ceetar wrote: John Ricco has been the 'heir' for like 20 years. They're not starting a rebuild no matter how this season goes. Alderson is under contract through next year and it seems unlikely they'd make a change. A half-empty ballpark for 3 months might force their hand.
  17. I'm watching less. They're just not putting a competitive product on the field right now. The lack of hitting is alarming and while the starters are good for 5 innings, after that it's blammo. I'm also starting to get comfortable with the notion that either Thor or deGrom (or both) get moved for a king's ransom this winter, but only after Sandy Alderson is fired.
  18. Dom Smith I understand, but Ty Kelly? Anyone? Bueller?
  19. The early '70's Mets had a 3-year run of bad third basemen. Joe Foy in 1970 was so washed up he was replaced by Bob Aspromonte in 1971, who was so washed up he was replaced by the washed-up Jim Fregosi in 1972. Fregosi, to be fair, played another 5 years but he was never the player he'd been before coming to the Mets. Yes, it's before the Wilpons but it's always been a Mets trait. Their whole 1962 team was essentially these types of players.
  20. Who names their kid Nelmerson?
  21. Smith wasn't exactly tearing it up in Vegas. This is his last chance to prove himself, though, so he better be up to the task. They hung onto A-Gon a little too long. And why they hang on to Reyes at all is a mystery. He's just beyond awful.
  22. Centerfield wrote: If we have to pick a defining moment, for me it was that 8th inning meltdown against Washington. They lost three straight series after that game and have never been the same. This x1000. They were 6 outs away from going 12-1 and thrashing the Nationals. But right there all the flaws of the team became exposed all at once. I think that game rattled them and they've never gotten things on track since. I guess they'd have come back to the pack eventually anyway, but they seemed to nosedive from then on.
  23. These days, every night is an 'off' night for the Mets and their fans.
  24. Not looking forward to Monday morning with the YLDB's at work.
  25. Fuck it, bring up Alonso. He can't be any worse than what they have already.
