  1. * Three wins, three days, three timezones for the Rox. Actually two wins and a loss, which is why they were in Chicago in the first place.
  2. The harassment opportunities for Jeff Wilpon would be endless.
  3. God, I hope not. What they need is a batting coach who can teach hitters to go the other way. Too many ground balls into the shift.

I think injuries, a weak bullpen, and a spotty offense are going to bite them again, and the Phils and Braves will be better than you think. 75-87, fourth place. Maybe after this they'll do the rebuild right. I just want to say I was pretty spot on.
  5. 1B- Alonso/Smith/Bruce 2B- McNeil SS- Rosario 3B- Frazier LF- Conforto CF- Lagares RF- Nimmo C- ? Cespedes whenever he shows up. You're not going to get a real first baseman, with 3 and possibly 4 contenders if they keep Wilmer. A CF who can hit and really play the position would be nice, but then what happens when Cespy comes back? Sure, dump Frazier, but you have to replace that offense (the batting average won't be hard to replace). And it goes without saying that they need a catcher who can both throw out runners and hit more than .225. So while the offense sucked, as presently configured there's not a lot you can do to upgrade unless you're willing to roto-rooter the roster. The bullpen's easier to find bodies for, but no telling how it'll all work. Mejia's intriguing, but after 4 years away I doubt he can be competitive.
  6. Rosario's a trade chip if you sign Machado. In other words, Rosario's Mets future is quite secure.
  7. Centerfield wrote: I don’t think they will do either. I think they will make the same type of moves they made last year and we will end up hoping to snag a wild card if everything breaks the right way. Yeah, that's their M.O. The half-measures and the junkheap signings hoping to catch 'lightning in a bottle'. The bullpen absolutely killed this team this year. They have to get a quality closer and set-up man. And some of the flotsam and jetsam needs to be cleared out or sent back to the minors. I want to see Alonso next year. he has nothing to prove in the minors. I'd rather see Dom Smith hold down that spot if you're waiting for the Super-Two deadline to pass (as they probably will). Rather see Bruce in the outfield and Lagares/Nimmo man center. I expect they'll see very little of Cespedes; anything they get is a bonus, and somebody else will be hurt by then anyway. Machado would be nice, but he'll cost a fortune in dollars and years. Another team will lock him up. And I don't want Harper.
  8. Edgy MD wrote: Harper signs with Philadelphia. I'm calling it. Yeah, sounds logical. He could do a lot of damage in that park and Phils are willing to spend.
  9. Machado wants to play shortstop, not third. Just saying.
  10. Bruce is the piece that doesn't fit. Either going for it or breaking it down, he shouldn't be your first baseman.
  11. The new GM will have to major in Wilpon Management. They'll have no real freedom to do what they want.
  12. Couldn't watch the end without choking up. I feel old.

  14. My son went to the game with friends and fortunately they were under an overhang, but conditions were miserable. They left when it was 8-3, then was checking the score all the way home, hoping they didn't blow it. Rocked his David Wright jersey and was not mocked by Nats fans. They're too dispirited to hassle Met fans these days.
  15. Safe to say we can pencil him in at second base in 2019.
  16. A surprising amount of Met content in the new Jack Ryan series on Netflix. Without giving too much away, A Mets-Nats game is featured.
  17. Zimmoboom!
  18. Mickey overmanaging again , pulling Oswalt after 2 2/3. Why?
  19. I'd retire his number next year and have a nice ceremony for him. Lord knows he deserves it.
  20. Oh, heavens to Murgatroid. The Wilpons will do the hiring. The Wilpons want someone they can control. That's the biggest requirement for the job. While the Wilpons have a 'burning desire to win', they want to do it on their terms. I'm sure they'll find someone to do their bidding and hope that lightning strikes, like they always do.

  22. I'm assuming they'll hold Alonso down in the minors for a month or two to prevent his FA clock from starting. It's what they do. and if they didn't bring him up when he was raging hot this year they'll wait to bring him up next year. I'm betting they trade Dom Smith this winter for a bag of balls, and roll with Bruce at first until Alonso comes up. I wouldn't expect Ces until near the All-Star break. So the first two months the outfield is Conforto/Lagares/Nimmo. Then Conforto/Nimmo/Bruce. Then Cespedes/Conforto/Nimmo/Bruce. I would expect Cespedes would be limited, so there'll be playing time for everybody. Then dump Bruce at the deadline unless one or more of the others have a season-ending injury (which'll probably happen, rendering all this moot). Austin Jackson, meh. Guys like him are a dime a dozen. Sign him to a minor league deal and let him fight it out with a few other Michael Tucker clones in spring training to be the 5th/6th outfielder. Get a bullpen!
  23. Well, this is just all-around weird. Wonder what Hadji thinks. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/06/nyregion/julia-salazar-keith-hernandez-mets-lawsuit.html?rref=collection%2Fissuecollection%2Ftodays-new-york-times&action=click&contentCollection=todayspaper&region=rank&module=package&version=highlights&contentPlacement=7&pgtype=collection
  24. Yes, it's Jim Breuer, who I despise. But some funny moments, especially at the end. [youtube:3h6n4kf0]JCNF054XKdE[/youtube:3h6n4kf0]
