  1. My favorite headline: Red Sox End 5-year Title Drought
  2. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I guess its Hy-em? #ignorant All I know is that's Gene Simmons' real first name Chaim Witz. I found out today Chaim is from Philly and a big Darren Daulton fan. Great; don't let him drive.
  3. Damn, I'll have to return that Melvin jersey I bought at Modell's. I'll be having one of those crow tacos too. Melvin just made too much sense from a Wilpon perspective.
  4. And ponies for everyone! Don't forget the ponies!
  5. Why would any agent give up a lucrative job to work for the Wilpons? It does not make sense.
  6. This is the more likely furniture if they hire a fossil like Bob Melvin to be GM...
  7. G-Fafif wrote: "Brodie Van Wagenen" puts mind of "Earl J. Waggedorn," the best friend of Corey, son of the title character, on the groundbreaking multiracial (if painfully dull) NBC sitcom Julia. Sort of like I can't hear a reference to "Nido" and not think, "you say neato/check your libido/and roll to the church/in your new tuxedo" from Young MC's "Bust A Move". Which is not to say Van Wagenen wouldn't make a good general manager. Or that Tomas Nido won't develop into a splendid catcher, assuming Van Wegenen doesn't trade him. Brodie Van Wagenen sounds like something from a Marx Brothers movie.
  8. Wore it in the post-game press conference, too. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-sports-mets-pat-mahomes-jersey-20181021-story.html
  9. I went through the decision thusly: Do I have a grudge against either of these teams? Well, 1988, I guess, even though 30 years is probably past my grudge-holding statute of limitations. So advantage Red Sox. Has one of them won a lot lately? 3 WS for the Sox in the last 15 years. So, advantage Dodgers. Irritating-looking beards? Justin Turner vs. Craig Kimbrel. They're equally irritating. A push. What would annoy Yankee fans more? Ooh, big advantage Red Sox. So, go Boston. Even though I have to admit I won't watch much of this.
  10. When word came that the Mets hung out with Donald Trump Jr on a spring training fishing trip, it was intrepid reporter Philip Evans who broke it on his Instagram account. Which reminds me, whatever happened to that Harvey fellow?
  11. No to Muffy. Move on, people. And they need a real center fielder. That's not Cutch.
  12. Benjamin Grimm wrote: There's just so much going on there that I have to giggle.
  13. Jerry Blevins wrote an article for Sports Illustrated declaring how much he hated Field of Dreams. https://www.si.com/mlb/2018/03/02/field-dreams-bad-film?utm_campaign=sinow&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&xid=socialflow_twitter_si What kind of man, yon Drew Gagnon?
  14. The sculpture was incredibly dorky, but it was the only thing that gave that warehouse any character. Well, that and the bobble-head museum.
  15. Looks like Marlins guy behind the plate picked up a girlfriend with major league cleavage.....
  16. It’s a weird thing to say, but the Red Sox are the worst 108-win team I’ve ever seen.
  17. 1. Yankees. I despise them with every fiber of my being, but am jealous that they pull off playoff seasons with ease. 2. Yankees. 3. Yankees. 4. Yankees. 5. Phillies. 2007 and 2008 still sting. 6. Nationals. They talk big but deliver small. And as Lefty Jr is within their broadcast area now, he's irritated by them. Nobody irritates my kid without dealing with me. 7. Braves. I was gonna let it go but then they zoomed past us again. 8. Cardinals. Terry Pendleton, among others. 9. Yankees. Just to be sure. 10. Royals. Not so much 'hate' as 'dislike somewhat'. Hey, they were due, but their timing was bad.
  18. 10 points for the J.Geils reference.
  19. Just ask him, "Hey, how's the back acne?"
  20. Good. Now I can enjoy the rest of the post-season without anxiety.
  21. Well, if I can't watch the Mets in the postseason, watching the Yankees get the everlovin' shit beat out of them at the Stadium will just have to do.
  22. Dumping Yankees overrides all other concerns. Astros. Of course, I'm hoping the Bosox take care of bizness first.
  23. Edgy MD wrote: I don't need any clarification. If there is to be a restructuring, it would make all the sense in the world that it would take place after the establishment of a new management team. I feel confident that a player on the "Physically Unable to Perform List" will not count against the 40-man roster limit. Yeah, something will get worked out. I'm not concerned.
  24. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Experienced "baseball lifer," with strong emphasis on traditional scouting (and, as a bonus, cobbling together sorta-contenders out of scrapheap pieces). On the nose. Fred's not an outside-the-box kind of guy. I don't think he'll be the deciding factor though; Jeff will and he'll sell Fred on whatever his choice is.
