  1. I just don't see them pulling the trigger for Arenado. Outfield right now is Davis/Zimmo/Conforto, with possible cameo appearances by Folly Rancher in left. Marte has nowhere to go but down, and the Mets shouldn't make a trade like that two years in a row.
  2. Maybe they'd take Cano in return.

  4. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Arenado should be on the Mets If you want to give Fred Wilpon a heart attack, his salary would be the way to do it.
  5. =ashie62 post_id=30383 time=1579762322 user_id=90] If Alonso is good with it so am I

  7. =seawolf17 post_id=30287 time=1579706896 user_id=91] I love that the one vote has sent MFY fans into apoplexy, because that tells me a lot more about those fans than it does about the Hall, CI, or the voting process.
  8. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Great guys they hired in the first place include Mickey Callaway and Willie Randolph and Art Howe. And Gil Hodges and Bobby Valentine and Davey Johnson.
  9. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41-ZxVJX8FL.jpg> Curbing my enthusiasm for now. If he was so great they'd have hired him in the first place.
  10. By the way, my wife doesn't have a vote, but she's strongly in favor of Streakers.
  11. 53 is real game action. (And a historic moment in baseball) Arctic Blast is a meaningless hitting exhibition.
  12. Yeah, this is the camel's nose in the tent. It can only get worse. MLB never passes up the opportunity to make an easy buck.
  13. A conjunction of a great picture, fun caption and brilliant performance.
  14. I root for the weirdest fucking team in baseball. I swear to God.
  15. One of the things value is based on is scarcity. The opportunity to own a MLB team comes only rarely. And 'losing' $100 million dollars can be achieved in a number of ways, especially in a non-public family-controlled enterprise. The loss they're experiencing is most likely due to their heavy debt burden, not the sales at Keith's Grill or the numbers through the turnstiles. Debt burden won't be a problem for Mr. Cohen.

Edgy MD wrote: I wonder if Bradley Wilpon is feeling he's being screwed out of his chance at the family business or he's seeing it as a dodged bullet, and he'd rather get a share in the huge pile of Cohen money to play with. I'm thinking it's the latter. Wilpons will still be minority owners after Cohen takes over, so he can still be a jock-sniffer if he wants. And he gets to be fabulously rich without working for it.
  17. Wow, there's a lot of crappy players on that list. I mean, Juan Centeno.
  18. Steve Cohen didn't get where he is by being an idiot. I'm betting he'll be pulling the strings earlier than the Wilpons may want him to.
  19. If he's healthy, awesome. But the Yanks giving up on him makes you wonder.
  20. If those legs are serviceable (a big if), he could hit 20 in part-time duty and be a weapon off the bench. He'll be motivated after taking that massive pay cut, and restructuring it to provide incentives was well done. Spring training will be the test. If he looks at least competent in the field, then he's an asset- remember he's still got a cannon for an arm. He'll hit; remember the last time we saw him he came back after a few weeks off, played one game against the Yankees and homered, then went on the DL for a year and a half. So if he's able to make it to the plate, he'll hit.
  21. Cespedes' value is minimal until he proves he can, you know, actually play the game again. Trading him now you'd get nothing for him in return. I'm OK with seeing if he's got anything left. I'm guessing he'll only be able to play half the time, leaving plenty of AB's for JD Davis, and either way having a power bat off the bench. If it looks like Cespedes can't play the field with any regularity, you gear up to trade him to the AL to DH and take what you can get.
  22. Just saw this thread. There are a few movies I could watch over and over. I can recite Casablanca from memory ("Are my eyes really brown?") but that's a cheapie that's on everyone's list. It's not a car chase but the cropduster scene from North by Northwest is a few minutes of the best cinema ever. I saw it on the big screen recently and that scene is even more awesome. And Grace Kelly tooling around the back roads of Monaco in To Catch a Thief is lots of fun. Yeah, I'm a Hitchcock fan. The 1953 War of the Worlds was one of the best sci-fi movies to come out of the '50's. Still scary today. It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World is fun for celebrity spotting. Blazing Saddles is a movie that couldn't be made today, but I'm glad Mel Brooks made it when he did. Things to Come is a 1936 British movie that looks into the future after a world war. Old-school dystopia and redemption by technology.
  23. Grand slams more exciting than contract negotiations.
  24. Jeez, 2025 can't come fast enough.
  25. =kcmets post_id=28409 time=1576275516 user_id=53] Probably broke some contractual clause(s) and didn't have an ankle to stand on. What's most interesting is how things are kept under wraps these days.
