  2. short answer: "it's a lie." longer answer: creative accounting, mostly. Counting loans against the stadium as deficit, while not counting name rights as revenue, that sort of thing. Only a direct 'tickets sold against payroll' type calculation. It's how you cry poor and beg players to take pay cuts. This. The Mets count the money they pay SNY against the team revenue. Even though it's going into the same pocket. It's also why they desperately want to hang on to SNY.
  3. I DO think it's great that he doesn't get the big outdoor ceremony with a million Yankee fans descending on the normally-nice village of Cooperstown. Zoom just isn't the same.
  4. You signed a lease, you pay the rent until the lease is up. If you can't use the apartment, then try negotiating with the landlord for a reduced rent while he has a chance to re-rent it. This should be done quietly, but I get the feeling Noah was being a bit of a dick about it. I saw Noah a few times walking around in Soho, in the Before Times. So he had to have a place nearby.
  5. =Ceetar post_id=37153 time=1590088124 user_id=102] the way the country is going re: reopening, it seems like players might actually be safer playing.
  6. The Mets have had Chevy trucks running across the screen for a few years now.
  7. Wouldn't mind Bartolo as a coach. But as a player.....that buffet table has sailed.
  8. Hopefully, he's battling.
  9. 'Kenneth West- Stock Manager' seems less like he's investing in Nynex stock and more like he's stocking the shelves at the local D'Agostino's.
  10. Edgy MD wrote: He kinda did though. That Samuel trade was run by him and he said to go for it. Well, not according to Wendy.
  11. Wendy Wood. I mean, she's in telecommunications. That's just like the internet in 1990. And she's right, Davey didn't make those dumb trades.
  12. What'll happen is the speeding up of things some people (not necessarily fans) want. The universal DH. The realignment and the elimination of the American and National Leagues. Expansion of the playoffs. Expansion of rosters. Banning reporters from the clubhouse. All things that will be hastened by a Covid-shadowed season, whether it's this year or next.
  13. I've grown pessimistic about them playing this year. We're opening things too soon and we have no plan to deal with what's coming. Hopefully with a new administration we'll get things under control enough to start next season without fans.
  14. keith Hernandez @keithhernandez Hadji loves to help daddy with his jigsaw puzzle. My second puzzle. Been on it for 2 weeks. Sorry I'm tardy revealing. BTW, Gary, Ron & I are broadcasting our second simulated Mets game Tues. at 7pm w/special guest, Jeff McNeil. Watch it on SNY's Twitter, FB & UTube channels.
  15. Celebrity aside, the deal that needs to be made here is for the Mets AND SNY, not just the Mets. That's how you really make money off this franchise once you buy it. J-Rod don't have those kinds of deep pockets. Cohen does. And from what I can tell he has a big hiney too, along with $13 billion or so.
  16. Hm. First like is hard. When I was little I thought all baseball players were like superheroes. Seaver's an easy out here, but I think for some reason I liked Cleon Jones first. First hate. Ha. Pete Rose. How dare he beat up Buddy? Lefty Jr. was just shy of 3 years old when the Mets got Mike Piazza. He was 10 when he left. He worshipped him like a god, which of course he was. We have like 8 kid-sized Piazza shirts up in the attic. And he's got the adult-sized one he wore to the Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
  17. They're announcing on SNY a game of MLB The Show 20 between the Mets and the Astros. This is extremely, extremely weird. But they seem to be enjoying themselves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4ee_OdHEj0https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4ee_OdHEj0
  18. Players, coaching staffs and other essential personnel would be sequestered at local hotels, where they would live in relative isolation and travel only to and from the stadium, sources said. That doesn't sound like they could bring their families. And they wouldn't go anywhere but the hotel and the stadium. Sounds pretty draconian.
  19. Basically you're holding MLB players prisoner for 4 1/2 months. Not sure how that'll work. But ratings for this would be through the goddamn roof if they manage to pull it off. What about announcers? I can't see Keith locking himself in a hotel room in Arizona. Who would feed Hadji?
  20. Ron Darling doesn't think there'll be a 2020 season. He said, what if you start playing and someone tests positive? You'd have to shut it all down again. There is no way college or pro football could play this year. We won't get back to games for real until there's a vaccine.
  21. Thanks for doing this. The pictures are great. But I have a little ache in my heart that there's no baseball.
  22. Ready just in time for the 2021 playoffs. And they can re-sign him on the cheap, always a bonus with Jeffy. Win-win.
  23. Well they probably don't play much if any of 2020 anyway. But still, fuck.
  24. Why is it that even though SNY is only running the victories from 2019, I get nervous every time Edwin Diaz comes in the game?
  25. More time for Conforto to recover. Outside of that, I got nothin'.
