This way, the [sarcasm]esteemed[/sarcasm] Gloria Allred can make more money from the upcoming lawsuit with allegations of gay slurs included.
  2. The video had both Sterling's and the White Sox' play by play. It was a beautiful thing to see... The best part of the video was the look on Captain Intangibles' face...

(not a hotel anymore, just a bar). I also recall the Lind error looming large. And I've long been sick of Bob Costas. I know I told the room I once met Mike LaValliere's mother who said the final play was all the more devastating for the Pirates because they didn't have to lose Sid Bream to the Braves for more than a couple of bucks. Bream and LaValliere were very close friends. It was October 14, 1992. I was laying in a cot in Griffin Hospital next to my sleeping wife, who had just given birth to our first daughter a few hours before... As Greg as noted to me in the past, the Pirates haven't had a winning season since Ashley was born.
  4. In a nutshell, this is why I hate Omar - I'm rooting for a blown save and extra inning just so Frankie doesn't get a GF

I think think that if the fans haven't been coming out to see the old, stale, team, they will respond to a bunch of kids - IF they show promise. Not at these prices... CF neglected one more positive - if things get worse, perhaps this team can be ripped from the Wilponzi's cold, dead hands sooner. rather than later. If I go there this season, it will only be because I received a Mets gift card for my birthday. Other than that, I won't spend one red cent there this year. I love the new front office, and I am looking forward to see them get a chance to rip everything completely apart, and build up from scratch. I realize that this is a process that will take years, but if done properly, could yield results that we haven't seen in 25 years. To be honest, I don't think I will ever get over the destruction of Shea. I feel that Citi Field is nothing more than a house of avarice. Fewer seats in order to artificially pump up demand with an eye toward lower supply. Every seat with perfect sightlines to.. advertising. A literal moat that separates the haves and have nots. This theory would have worked at Shea where lower prices remained, and people might have been willing to see younger talent for those lower prices. As it stands now, I see many empty seats in Citi Field's immediate future....
  6. Edgy DC wrote: Man, it's great to know the Mets can still be used by publicity hogs on a budget. I think she gets points for not wearing any black in her Mets regalia, having the bill of her cap properly curved, and staying for the whole game...

Up until now I've given Sandy the benefit of the doubt, but this just sucks. I think he's going to be a Phillie next year, and this team will be better in the long run due to the thinking behind it. If the MFY's get around to shifting Jeter out of the infield by 2012 ...... Then I just woke up to one of my worst nightmares...

  11. Story regarding my uncle who just passed away: We were over my uncle's house one afternoon, and a commercial for Patton was on TV. I knew that my uncle did not like talking about his experiences in World War II, but I was curious to know what he thought of the movie. Was it historically accurate? did they really get things right? When I asked Uncle Art, he said that he never saw it. That he no interest in seeing it. I was curious. Why hadn't he ever watched it? "I hated the SOB when he was alive, I'm not about to watch a movie about him" OK. End of discussion...
  12. I really liked this movie. Unbelievable premise, but somehow Kevin Kline makes it work. He and Sigourney Weaver have some nice chemistry together. I must admit, I still crack up at the "I once caught a fish this big" scene... I have liked every Kevin Kline movie I've seen, as long as it didn't include a huge fucking spider*. *had to include a Kevin Smith reference here

(And I don't think that's heart that Vaughn's eating, Greg.) Baseball history has been littered with flash in the pans who became too enamored with their off field persona

Geez , their families were friends right? , good friends apparently....I'd say I am 65% convinced that the Wilpon's and Katz knew something was funny with the money. I'm starting to learn towards 85 - looks like this wasn't the only Ponzi scheme they've been a part of.. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/31/sports/baseball/31mets.html?_r=2&hp

  17. Oh God - Dinosaurs with eyelashes... Our oldest used to watch all of these over and over and over and over and over and over and over.....
  18. Nope - I fear they are eying someone else...
  19. 1. I like Ike. 2. He'd probably get hurt and/or test positive for a ped even before the ink in his Met contract would be dry.
  20. A true HOF in every way. Interrupted his career to enlist in the Navy immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

(I had to verify, but Mike Cubbage and Salty Parker did manage home games during their short stints. Cubbage just barely made the cut; only the first of his seven games was played at Shea.) At least Terry Collins did manage against the Mets at Shea when he was with Houston. Some day we'll have a Mets manager who never set foot in Shea Stadium. Bracing. And inevitable. In the 160th and 161st games of last season, seven of the nine starters never played for the Mets at Shea Stadium. Time marches on, the bastard. Through 1985, (but not including 1980), the Mets have always had at least one player who played in the Polo Grounds -- a record prolonged primarily by Ed Kranepool and Rusty Staub. There are 14 Mets who played in the Polo grounds and also played for the Mets in the 1970's. Kranepool and Staub are two of them. Name the other 12. Willie Mays Donn Clendenon Joe Torre
