  1. While I had a few nits to pick, I think Captain America is better than Thor. I think the pacing of the first half of the movie was much better than the second half. The second half felt a bit rushed, and I would have liked the main villain to be fleshed out a bit more. I also felt Tommy Lee Jones would have been a good casting choice for the colonel, 10 years ago. I was a bit distracted by his age and seeming weariness. I'm not really affected by the glut of SH movies - I ignored GL (I still think they should have cast Nathon Fillion there, but I digress...). I think that the Marvel movies should be taken as a package, they make winking nods to each other, and they are all leading up to next year's Avengers movie. and to reiterate, Hayley Atwell alone was worth the price of admission... One more thing, stay through the credits.

  3. Frankly, he was the best center fielder the mets ever had.

The glove doesn't clearly bump into him, or change direction, or anything that would indicate (to me) obvious contact. I had the same reaction when I saw the replays. It reminds me of the Agee - Hundley play in 1969...

  6. My childhood officially ended when Tom Seaver rode out of Shea through the center field gates on Tom Seaver Day. The Seaver trade was devastating to me. The Mets didn't mean as much to me until I saw Strawberry on the cover of Scholastic magazine in June of 1981. To be honest, I never got the appeal of Dykstra. I was happy to see him and that other punk McDowell traded...

  9. "I guess the no-hitter is next. I'll sign up for it -- tell me where." R.A. Dickey , Tuesday night, after the Mets ended a nearly two-year grand slam drought by hitting two in a 14-3 victory over the Tigers Here's to hoping that it comes today.

  11. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I thought the first Cars movie was cute, but not up to Pixar's standards. (At least it was better than Wall-E). Of all the movies to make a sequel to, I'm surprised that they chose Cars. (I'd prefer to see more of A Bug's Life or The Incredibles.) Cars 2 will be the first Pixar movie that I don't intend to see. It's easier for me to skip it because my kids are older and not asking to see it. My only regret is that in skipping Cars 2, I miss the Toy Story short that accompanies it. I'll have to make sure to track it down somewhere, eventually. This. I was extremely disappointed that this sequel was made instead of an Incredibles sequel. I guess it's all about merchandising...

  13. None of the above - I will never go into Citi/Shea while infested with YLDBs. Heaven knows communicable diseases are floating around.

I can just picture Sterling in his darkened hotel room going practicing his little speech when Captain Intangibles gets his 3000th. My hope is that it will be a swinging bunt that is muffed by the third baseman that isn't called a hit until official scorer reviews it, and changes the scoring a few innings later... But reality being what it is, we all know that this injury will just insure that it's going to be a game-winning HR against KRod...
  19. I finally saw this Saturday night, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I agree completely regarding Loki - he was easily the most dynamic character in the movie, but he just reminded me of Jeff Wilpon too much... I must admit to really looking forward to Captain America next month...
  20. I never had a problem with him. Bonilla's biggest problem is that the Mets expected him to be something he wasn't, a cornerstone to be built around. I remember one opening weekend (1999?) when he stayed in the line up and played on basically one leg, because Piazza was on the DL - the invective hurled at him from the fans was unbelievable. Here was a guy playing hurt for the team, and just being vilified by the crowd. I never understood it.
  21. I couldn't disagree more. Citi Field is a dull, lifeless place, that is devoid of color. Whenever I see a Mets classic on SNY, I'm struck by how much more colorful Shea was...
  22. A "we want more power" way? How about a "we want the building to be more fair like Shea" way?
