  1. This is what it has come to. I read those names, and I. Really. Don't. Care.

Let's add to it. 2003: Sucked into a turbine. 2004: Bungee diving entanglement. 2005: Taken by Pirates in the Indian Ocean. 2006: Taken by Pirates in the Rule Five Draft. 2007: Stung by a bluie while diving off of Australia's Great Coral Reef. 2009: Pitched in the California Penal League...
  3. That obviously doesn't include Eddie Gaedel and any of his teammates..

  5. Draft-pick compensation for J---J---J---J---: the Marlins' sandwich pick plus a 2nd-rounder, NOT a 3rd-rounder, as per Davidoff. What if the Marlins sign Pujols?
  6. metsmarathon wrote: i console myself with this tought. if the marlins are going to go after pujols too, then it's likely that no matter the wilpon's financial situation, they would have been likely able to push the contract eventually to where we sandy would not want it to go. so maybe we never had a chance to begin with. If the Marlins go after Pujols, that means the Mets really get screwed, getting only a fourth round pick in addition to the sandwich pick... metsmarathon wrote: fuck the mets. i'll probably change my mind come april, but really. fuck the mets. This. This again. I'm numb to it. My issue isn't with Alderson, because he is obviously dealing with a shitty hand. This is squarely on the Wilponzis - If they think I'm going to pay large market prices for a payroll that doesn't match that, they're kissing themselves...
  7. Edgy DC wrote: Because: His "good" years were in fact easily the best years of any secondbaseman in Mets history. (And he has a significant legacy at third, too.)The only evidence of him being older was him being foreign and fading in his early thirties. (Nor would that negate his legacy.)He wasn't the only athlete in history to carry extra weight. It happens. Nor did his weight only appear later in his career. If you think that's the sum total of the Alfonzo story, you're not being fair. Why the love for any of them? Saying that his good years were easily the best years of any second baseman in Mets history isn't really saying much considering we never really had any one approaching Rogers Hornsby there. I think that's the issue - he looks so much better than anyone else there, because we really never had anyone that great there. Actually, he started going down hill when he was "27". He had 2, maybe 3 "good" years out of 8 in NY.
  8. I know this is heresy in some parts around here, but I never got the love for Fonzie - he had a few good years, was about 5 years older then reported, and then got fat...
  9. Bagwell Raines Larkin Trammell Martinez? Half a player - nope. McGwire & Palmiero? they can buy a ticket like everybody else...

  12. I loved Baseball Digest, and I still have my Mets helmet lamp :-)
  13. I'm already sick of this - let's just shit or get off the pot. If this off-season is going to be a daily dose of will he return or not, wake me up in April.

The 8'1" Turkish man was re-measured and posed for pictures in Times Square before hitting Citi Park in Queens. And yes, Kosen did get to meet Mr. Met. Ah, good ol' Citi Park. Where the Meters play the in the borough of the Queen. Really? You're surprised the Huffington Post got something wrong?
  17. That was a great interview. I always knew there was a reason I keep going back to Thorogood on my playlist... Kelli Garner
  18. Edgy DC wrote: dgwphotography wrote: That can also speak of a change in approach due to the dimensions in right field... Certainly. But whatever the factors, his output has been negatively affected. I'm not presenting this data to argue for this change. I'm saying it's a pretty well supported point that his homerun power the other way had been one of the things that had distinguished him, and that it's not been there as much. I completely agree with all of these points.
