  1. Yes, I do, and going by the overall assholishness of that team, they were probably clueless to the severity of his condition, thinking he was only sleeping one off.
  2. Edgy MD wrote: One of the most revered and classy figures associated with the Mets was radio announcer Bob Murphy. But during the 1986 playoffs in Houston, Darling reveals how the team filed into the clubhouse in the Astrodome before a game to find Murphy passed-out drunk on the trainer's table. He was so sloshed, the team had a meeting around his prone body, as if he was the roast in the middle of a buffet table. Didn't Murphy take some sick leave during the 1986 post-season, and was substituted for on the radio broadcast by Ralph Kiner? From the Daily News Saturday (from a 1986 Hartford Courant story): https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-sports-ron-darling-dykstra-raissman-20190406-jf3hevqpq5hxhp7ttotuunygiu-story.htmlhttps://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-sports-ron-darling-dykstra-raissman-20190406-jf3hevqpq5hxhp7ttotuunygiu-story.html But there's more to this story. Turns out Murphy's condition was a lot more serious. According to a 1986 Hartford Courant notes column following Game 2 of the '86 NLCS, by Claire Smith and Owen Canfield, Murphy “was admitted to Methodist Hospital in Houston before Game 2 for observation after suffering a slight cerebral spasm. He was resting comfortably and is expected to be hospitalized for a couple of days. Ralph Kiner worked in Murphy's place on the radio broadcast of the game over WHN.”
  3. I went with Piazza, I just love that image of him. All-Star Sports? At first glance, I thought that was a cover of Tiger Beat...
  4. This thread is what happens when there's no game on an in-season Friday night.

But a semi-explanation of the wristband. I seem to remember that it was for McDonalds House - that a certain amount of $$ was being donated every time he hit a home run.
  6. In the source, you'll see ' ' that begins the hidden part.

  8. What's come out in this book makes Darling look worse than anyone he dishes about. Except Lenny.

  11. Um, is Doc wearing his Rookie Spring Training #64?
  12. I went with Murph. Even though the Seaver cover is a great cover, he just doesn't look right in the racing stripes.
  13. YoungestDGW decided last minute to drive down from school and go to the game with some friends. I hope she sees a good one.
  14. Life is the best of a bad lot. The crooked horizon ruins what is otherwise an excellent cover.
  15. I would normally vote for any cover featuring Nancy, but that photo editor should have been fired immediately after that cover went to print
  16. I think it's a 5-year extension, with a full no trade clause, but an opt out in 2022. This is a very good way to start the day.
  17. He was the best. RIP
  18. 86-76, just miss the post season.
  19. This was my childhood - coming home from school on Friday, and having SI and TSN waiting for me.
  20. I liked it enough for 3 stars. It wasn't the worst of the lot, but wasn't the best, either.
  21. This is heartbreaking news on so many levels.
  22. Heard Noah on with Howie and Wayne after his start, and frankly, he came across like a dick.
  23. I'll rejoice when the Mets wake up and sign Gio
  24. Well, I posted in the wrong thread...
  25. Heyman reports Harper to sign with Phillies... Ugh...
