  1. =Centerfield post_id=91123 time=1651542224 user_id=65] Fucking blue balls inning.
  2. The Nike swoosh on the Braves uniform looks like a stylized accent mark over the A in "Atlanta."
  3. Ah, McHugh! It's like you've forgotten who raised you!!
  4. Matzek has really eaten up every hitter he's faced, lefty or righty, but he's lost his control.
  5. Bassitt's curve is working great, but he tried to double up with it against Acuña and that's probably not a good plan. But somehow Nimzo tracked it down. Somehow.
  6. Bassitt, down 3-2, coming out for the seventh.
  7. And now the game is tied with two in scoring position because of dudes going the other way against the shifty.
  8. I don't get how the booth represents a guy hitting against the shift or bunting for a hit as something like a stolen hit that a player in a slump will do because he can't get something like a legitimate hit. That's just good baseball. Hit away from the shift all day.
  9. Those extra pitches Bassitt hadda throw after he was robbed of the strikeout vs. Swanson each felt like four pitches.
  10. His radio commercials tell me he likes his news like he likes his fastballs — "right down the middle."
  11. Fried has, like, no ass. Like, Jerry Blevens could throw an elbow at Jacob deGrom and say, "Look at that guy! Where's his ass?!" He might even have negative ass.
  12. A hunnert Cranes says that Yoan appeals and his suspension gets cut to two days. I've come to think that these suspensions are often made longer than they are supposed to be, because the appeal so frequently leads to a halving of the original suspension. I also reckon that initial suspensions are now regularly doled out in odd numbers, to make it harder to cut in half on appeal. If it was four games, the independent arbitrator would wake up and be all "Yawn, um ... cut it in half. Now gimme my money." By making it three games, MLB forces the arbitrator to come down primarily on the side of one party or the other.
  13. Well, it's roger_that who brought up Travis J. He asked if Janky had options, and I replied that, nay, he doth not.
  14. Jankowski does not have options. The team was forced to remove two players from the big league roster. The next best option was probably trying to sneak Trevor Williams through waivers.
  15. Yeah, I think it's pretty clear that he's at least going to be a regular against righties going forward. Just a coinkydink that they drew a lefty today. I remember Ralph Kiner being flabbergasted seeing Wally Backman not in the lineup a day after he went 6-for-6. Apparently, they had platoons in Ralph's day, but the hot hand was the hot hand. And not a lot of platoon players had splits quite like Wally.
  16. Roc Nation cut that deal for him. He was their first big client, and them seemingly plucking that deal out of the ether, when it seemed like nobody would be competing with the Yankees, went a long way toward establishing their legitimacy.
  17. Smith gets out of bed and removes his apnia mask, having (a) finally gotten two starts in a row, ( just collected four hits and 3 RBI in his last game, and © hearing that the biggest impediment to his playing time is gone. Then he arrives at the park and learns he's not in the lineup. Tough day for a lefty.
  18. No, of course you didn't. That was suggested above.
  19. .122 / .278 / .135 // .413. How sad to learn that this is Alcides Escobar's line through his first 90 plate appearances this season. Sorry. My mistake. That's Joey Votto's line through his first 90 plate appearances this season. Three RBI! Three!
  20. I really don't think this is about BVW, other than that the original acquisition happened under his watch. I really don't think this is about the Wilpons, other than that the original acquisition happened under their watch. A roster trim had to be made, and they determined this was the least costly. If baseball was played the right way, he might have some utility as a pinch-hitter. Maybe. But that ain't how it is. He and the Panda have to now consider whether it's worth it to catch on and try to be some hurting team's DH.
  21. McNeil: Too bad. But hey, I guess that means more playing time for me. At second certainly. Smith: And that means more time in left for me. Sucks though. Davis: And hopefully I'll see more time at DH. It's a shame it comes at somebody else's expense, though. Guillorme: Shit! There goes my defensive replacement gig! McNeil: I don't think you're looking at this the right way. Guillorme: Waddaya mean?! You're all pretending to be sad and I'm the only sincere one here! Shit! Shit! SHIT!
  22. Things don't happen until they happen.
  23. NAME: Seth Lugo AGE: 32 POSITION: Relief Pitcher NUMBER: 67 NICKNAME: "Quarterrican" fWAR IN 2021: 0.4 ZIPS PROJECTION FOR 2022:0.9 fWAR ALREADY IN 2022: 0.0 It's a month or so into the season and you don't have a predictablations thread about me. I'm one of the longest tenured Mets (longest, by some measures) and I think that sort of neglect is pathetic. it is what it is, though. I'm coming off some injury and apparent decline the last two seasons, so I get it. And when spin rate is your calling card, and then suddenly the league bans Spider-Tak, well, everybody's going to be looking at you. I get that. I get that, but I kind of think it sucks. Everybody used that shit. And the only thing that got used more than that is me, from 2017 to 2020. I was Mr. Reliable at the back end of games, setting up closers when you had a lead, keeping hope alive when you had a tie, and keeping things within reach when you were down a run or so. I also subbed for the closer when he was hurt or lost or in jail or something You think I'm gonna be the same guy after pitching that many high-leverage innings?!! But it's a new regime. Buck has, as they say, widened the circle of trust, and I'm splitting high-leverage spots with guys name Trevor and Joely and Trevor and Adam, and probably one or two more Trevors. That's cool, as long as none of them is Trevor Bauer. I've barely seen any big action so far, but when the whether gets hot, I think I'm going to be there for you, and there for you big. But thinking ain't doing. I got a 67 on my back which reminds me just how fragile this life is. Twenty-twenty-two is mostly before me. How is it going to play out? 24. The most important trend it started was ball teams returning to central city locations. It's still a genuine pleasure every time I go. Great fans, great genuine ballpark experience, and if there's a bad seat in the house, I haven't found it. Nationals Park not so much, but I like getting the chili.
