  1. That's some journalism, beginning to end.
  2. One more night to sleep on that loss. One more day to dance on that win.
  3. "Holeee snikeees!!" It tough for me to think of Howie in semi-retirement and still so sharp. And it's disappointing that nobody's found a way to get him to occasionally slide over to the TV booth in recent years on the times that Gary Cohen has been unavailable.
  4. God, I love a game story. I like that after curve that made Smith look really, really bad striking out for the second out, Nimmo lined a curve that was just as sharp into center. His just had more plate, but it was really breaking when he squared it up.
  5. That's even without Hector Neris. In this game and in the St. Louis comeback, Gary remarked that, "The last thing a manager wants to do is get his closer up — whether or not he even uses him." No, Gary, the last thing a manager wants to do is lose a game he led 7-0.

But I think "Philly" + "Needing a Rebound" and I think of Charles Barkley, what with Moses Malone being dead at the present time.
  8. MLB.tv was glitchy all night. I finally tuned in for the bottom of the ninth and WOW. I just re-watched the rally (after several glitches kept resetting the game). It seemed like three balls went just over Alex Bohm's glove. The Phils should have had Charles Barkley playing third. Also, Odubel Herrera seemed to quit in his last few steps on Marte's go-ahead hit. I realize that diving for a ball that's about to hit off the base of the wall is a good way to break your neck, but he seemed defeated out there. Keep Herrera in your lineup, Philly.
  9. And, going back to a post earlier in the week, there was always a chance Evel Kneivel might do something insane or get himself crushed trying.
  10. Gary: The sort of win that a team can live on for a month. Ron: The sort of win that makes you feel like a teenager again.
  11. Two outs and nobody home yet, but this has been a good inning against Nola.
  12. Three Philadelphia runs home in the first and I object to losing to a team wearing their 1970s road pajamas at home.
  13. Yeah, I think bml missed fman's "American" qualifier, as well as the "band" thing. Soul acts, much more egregiously, got broadly and aggressively weeded out as the AOR format faded and "Classic Rock" was born. The playlists of stations identifying as ascribing to the "classic rock" format are incredibly, incredibly white. Once you get past Hendrix and Jaimoe, finding the next most frequently appearing black artist who is an official member of the act is a long, sick, sad slog. I think Fuck the Eagles is something that we all can agree on. That and the desire for glorious Mets victory this evening.
  14. Tonight - "Seasons of Wither" Friday Night - "Same Old Song and Dance" Saturday Night - "Train Kept a-Rollin'" Sunday - "No More No More"
  15. Doesn't everybody cotton to 1970s Aerosmith? Even 2002 Aerosmith doing 1970s Aerosmith is gold.
  16. Man, lookit the $$ that's out there to be made touring if you're a legacy act that can still haul your carcasses onto the stage. That venue looks like its holding half the country.
  17. Well, the win-every-single-series streak dies, but the lose-not-a-single-series lives on past May 4.
  18. Frayed Knot wrote: We're not actually going to lose this game ... because it's never going to end. I think we're going to have to get used to this with Megill. He's been a great addition to the rotation, but he works VERY deliberately when there are runners on base. Hey, we just gave up the DH! There's an outside, outside chance we'll get a pitcher batting this game!
  19. Hanging onto Dom until he gets up with bases empty, two outs, against a lefty isn't going to get it done either.
  20. Swinging at garbage ain't going to get anybody back into this game.
  21. Frayed Knot wrote: =Gwreck post_id=91340 time=1651692156 user_id=56] I am very puzzled by Ottavino as the first call to the bullpen. No situation seems to justify Ottavino. I suspect Buck is going to say that he liked the Right on Right match-ups w/ Otto's slider vs Td'A, Duvall, and Swanson
  22. Smith should totally be hitting for Luis here.
