  1. OK, Mets batting finally happening here. One run home.
  2. Credit to Acuña, my buttocks. The Mets gakked.
  3. Ottavino breaking this game open, sadly. This was probably May's game to pitch, but we seem to have gone to Otto one time too many.
  4. Mets cursing themselves with leadoff runners again.
  5. POW!!! He's really deliberate with runners on base, I tell you what. I run off to get something off the printer in the other room, have a chat with my wife, and I come back and the count is the same.
  6. Terrific job getting Heredia to chase. Acuña up with two on, though.
  7. I think Megill is starting to grind a bit here.
  8. I guess Marcell Ozuna forgot to send Brian O'Nora a Christmas card this year. https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2022/05/screen-shot-2022-05-04-at-2.28.20-pm.png> That's three called strikes against Ozuna right there.
  9. Three, really. I mean, that third one was closest, but ... .
  10. For those among us who may question the relative achievement of the multi-pitcher no hitter, Megill is now trying to achieve his ninth straight hitless inning.
  11. I don't think Buck has Smith or Davis in his outfield depth chart.
  12. Guillorme is kind of taking plate appearances from Smith here, isn't he?
  13. Heredia's grudge against the Mets for waiving him has to be an all-timer. He sort of re-invented the way you're supposed to play outfield defense there.
  14. My MLB.tv commercials give me: both Roman and HIMS product ads, because clearly my laptop detects my receding hairline and virility, car ads aimed at women, because ... clearly my laptop knows ... something I don't?
  15. Well, a scholar, certainly.
  16. Megill just terrific through the first six batters.
  17. Obvious, maybe, but there's never a bad reason to post a shot of Ian in his armored Speedo.
  18. The booth is making a lot out of Ian Anderson's deceptive pitching motion. [fimg=300]https://i.guim.co.uk/img/media/d53e75896f5358360cfe6b069206b231f1182f76/0_0_2481_3508/master/2481.jpg?width=300&quality=45&auto=format&fit=max&dpr=2&s=2c4bb6f8381a550b50fdbb91c1885e4a[/fimg]
  19. I was surprised that he took it so hard when we passed him over in favor of Giant Squidlike Creature in the CPF Hall of Fame voting.
  20. So, what is Marte bringing to the table here? Is he a terrific athlete whose offense comes in spurts, like a more genial Carl Everett? Is he a prolific base stealer who is losing his basestealing mojo, like Rober Cedeño II? Is he defense-and-baserunning specialist, who is mostly only going to hit once a week, and you will just have to forget that more was hoped for at contract time, like Jason Hayward? Is he an MVP talent, whose productivity relied too much on his athletic skills, and not enough on his baseball skills, and thus hits a rapid decline once his prime passes and his athleticism recedes even a little bit, like Andrew McCutcheon? Or is he still a solid get, and we just have to be patient until he finds his groove? Because all of the above are still useful contributors for a good team, if you're realistic about it, but I'm not sure what I'm seeing is going to get him into an All-Star Game or anything.

  22. Since his hot start, Alvarez has sort of decended in chumpitude. Coaches are trying to tell him that he's the best hitter in the league and the pitchers are expanding the strike zone to avoid him. He's got to learn restraint, and if that happens in Bingo rather than Queens, that would be just terrific. His 1-for-5 with two strikeouts this evening dropped his average to .238.
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: Travis Demeritte is a 27 y/o with barely 200 ML ABs to his name and he doesn't get PH'd for when they need a baserunner to bring the tying run to the plate?!? I think maybe Snitker gets a demerit for not hitting for Demeritte there. I was thinking about that. Demeritte was hitting .313 going into that plate appearance. That may be a sample size thingie (32 at-bats) but it's not nothing considering the uncharacteristically slow start most of this lineup has endured. They had d'Arnaud, Heredia, and Orlando Arcia on the bench. I got the idea that d'Arnaud was being held back to pinch-hit for Contreras two batters later. So the main alternative was to send d'Arnaud up for Demeritte and use Heredia or Arcia if they were able to keep it going. I don't know. But you're bringing a strong pun game.
