DAMN! I thought that was gone off the bat. This is still Philadelphia, right?

Took the third double-play of the game to score a run. Booo!!!

Getting past time to break through, man. Don't let the Phils get confident.

Second Principles: Stay out of double-plays. Better to get thrown out stealing.

Looks like he finally found the feel against Castellanos. Now the Mets need to get back into the game.

Scherzer can't find his curve.

First Principles: Stay out of double-plays.

Great to hear all three guys back in the booth. Keef in the boof.

Only regular sitting for Game One is Canha. I'm wondering if we're going to see Escobar at short one of these days.

Chatter about threads going off-topic is off topic!

When the schmain comes They go see Syracuse Who often tend to lose When the schmain comes When the SCHMAIN comes!

A longtime minor-leaguer, mostly in the Yankee organization but he's played every day wherever he's gone. Will probably bet the team's the strongest infielder at AAA for the time being.

It's a double entendre reference to the apparent straightness-as-establishment-sexual-orientation campaign of Floridian lawmakers. It's a stretch, but I see how he saw his use of straight there and couldn't pass up the opportunity. Puns can be like that. If you see one, even a weak one, and don't deploy it, it can get in your head and bother you all day.

Indeed. Not Captured on Cardboard: Jordany's vicious sucker pie-face from John Buck.

The double by Mike Nickeas setting up the homerun might have been even more unlikely. Had the Mets pinch-run for Ike Davis (quite possibly with Valdespin), that might have been the go-ahead hit.

The young top draft pick the Reds are attempting to feature is 22-year-old fireballer Hunter Greene, who first hit 93 as a high school freshman. After generating all sorts of ink in his first start by throwing an MLB record 39 pitches at three-digit speed, he has settled in to his Redliness with a 1-4 record and an 8.71 ERA. He totally wasn't called up before he was ready, says Billy Hamilton.

On this day in 2012, Jordany Valdespin collected his first MLB hit, homer, and RBI when he pinch hit for Tim Byrdak (against the Phillies in Philadelphia, appropriately enough), breaking a 2-2 tie with a three-run homer off of Jonathan Papelbon, with two out in the ninth. The clout made Jordany the first player in MLB history to ever record his first homerun off of a pitcher with 200 or more career saves. http://leaptoad.com/mets/scorecard_graph.php?game=8071&font=1> Mr. Gary Cohen with the play-by-play. The Mets ended up taking the game after falling behind 2-0 to future Hall-of-Famer Roy Halladay. A little over a year later, Valdespin would hit his last Met homer, also a ninth-inning pinch-hit shot against the Phillies off of the same Jonathan Papebon.

Who holds that record? Whitey Ford and Yogi Berra? Steve Carlton and Tim McCarver? Kris Benson and Jason Phillips?

Interesting Sideplot: Does the number 24 stay in circulation or return to the mothballs?

Well, that thread made me stupider.
