Since the dawn of this kwiz, AJ Ewing has moved into a tie with John Milner with 86 hits in a rookie season, so yes, that is who we were looking for. You didn't mention the year, but since AJ has only one year to mention, we'll give you the year points, and you've added 11.8 points to your score. AJ has the 100-hit plateau within reach this season, and since that projection is based on a season in which he didn't debut until May 12, there's a good chance he gets it. # SEASON ROOKIE HITS PROJECTION 1 1981 Hubie Brooks 169.7 PROJECTION 2 2026 Carson Benge 163.2 1 2019 Pete Alonso 155 2 2003 Ty Wigginton 146 3 1963 Ron Hunt 145 4 2000 Jay Payton 142 6 2026 Carson Benge 141 5 2010 Ike Davis 138 PROJECTION 3 7 8 1977 Lee Mazzilli 134 9 1989 Gregg Jefferies 131 10 1996 Rey Ordóñez 129 11 2004 Kazuo Matsui 125 11b 2003 Jason Phillips 120 12 2011 Justin Turner 113 13 1981 Hubie Brooks 110 14 1983 Darryl Strawberry 108 15 2001 Tsuyoshi Shinjo 107 PROJECTION 4 1995 Edgardo Alfonzo 104.6 16 1977 Steve Henderson 104 PROJECTION 5 2026 AJ Ewing 99.5 17 1962 Jim Hickman 96 20B 1981 Ron Gardenhire 95 18 2013 Juan Lagares 95 19 1995 Edgardo Alfonzo 93 20 2014 Travis d'Arnaud 93 21 1965 Ron Swoboda 91 22 1986 Kevin Mitchell 91 PROJECTION 6 23 1981 Mookie Wilson 89 PROJECTION 7 1995 Carl Everett 88.9 24 2011 Lucas Duda 88 25 1962 Rod Kanehl 87 26 1969 Wayne Garrett 87 26B 1988 Kevin Elster 87 27 1972 John Milner 86 28 2026 AJ Ewing 86 29 2003 Jose Reyes 84 PROJECTION 8 2020 Andres Gimenez 83.7 29B 1996 Alex Ochoa 83 29C 2004 Mike Fitzgerald 83 29D 1976 Bruce Boisclair 82 30 2023 Francisco Alvarez 80 STANDINGS: Gwreck: 135.65 MFS62: 95.95 Johnny Lunchbucket: 79.90 seawolf17: 38.95 Frayed Knot: 23.32 whippoorwill: 16.30 Centerfield: 9.60 kcmets: 6.90 cowtipper: 2.10 ashie 62: -2.00 INCORRECT GUESSES: Benny Agbayani Brett Baty Jeromy Burnitz Victor Diaz Wilmer Flores Brian Giles Todd Hundley Butch Huskey Jeff McNeil Daniel Murphy José Oquendo Amed Rosario Omir Santos John Stearns Ryan Thompson Mike Vail David Wright Jared Young

I really didn't think we'd see Soto on defense the rest of the season. I think the alley is fine with Ewing in center. Morabito is just getting a chance with a lefty on the mound. Soto and Benge are the only lefty bats in the lineup. Young, Ewing, and Baty are all sitting.

You are digging in the right part of the yard that is your brain right now because YES! Carl Everett is your guy! Carl got 75 hits in 1995. Extrapolate that to a 162-game season, and one can easily see him piling up 88.9 bangers! That's 10 points for nailing a projected season, two for coming within one of the correct year, and 2.35 points for degree of diff! Nineteen-year old José Oquendo was clearly up before his time. He scraped out 70 base hits in 1983, but no more. Bruce wasn't up in 1975. He debuted in 1974 and then returned in 1976, where he pounded out 82 safeties. I'm going to consider this one of those rookie seasons that FanGraphs missed and give you the points. That's 11.5 points for you — six for the guy, two for being one off in the year, 2.9 for degree of difficulty plus 0.6 for finding a rookie that Fan Graphs did not. Welcome to second place! A big part of that is because of the artificial scarcity in the marketplace caused by letting MLB operate as a cartel. If I can't buy a Major League baseball team, I can't just start a club without permission from the other clubs. I have to wait a generation for one to come on the market. If I'm particular about which one I want, I will likely have to wait a few generations, and even then, I need permission from the other clubs to buy in. Part of the reason we have this malicious disaster of a presidency is because nobody would let the guy buy an NFL football team like he really wanted. So, yeah, an attractive, ego-boosting commodity controlled by artificial scarcity is going to lead to spiking prices. And whether or not those purchases are profitable as enterprises, they remain a good investment because of those ever-increasing values lead to real equity pouring into your life. It's sort of like the alpaca business on a large scale.

Benge 2026 was neglected for a while, but finally guessed by Centerfield. Yes! Edgy Alfonzo slammed 93 hits in 1995, but the fates kept him from getting a full season in, leaving reasoning people to conclude that he would have had about 104.6 hits! Yes! Yes!! YES!!! It was right in front of youse the whole time, with Projected Benge 2026 knocked off the board but Actual Benge 2026 still SITTING THERE!!! FUN FACT: Since the start of this kwiz, Benge 2026 has added three more hits to his total, passing Ike Davis 2010. I'm going to give you the full 0.6 bonus points anyhow. Ryan was def one I missed. The Mets had an outfielder named Austin Slater in 2026. Austin Slater he was. His name was Austin Slater.

I can't keep up with youse. Who'd have thought that starting a quiz with stupidly complicated scoring system, a programmable table, and incorrect information would by so unwieldy? You are phrasing your answers as questions, but still landing them well, and that means points for you. Turner really stands out among our remaining guys as neither fish nor foul. And he stands out for you as the key to you gaining ... (mentally adding) ... 10.2 points! I think it is safe to openly declare fangraphs to be an unreliable narrator, at least in matters of rookie eligibility. Fitzgerald did not originally appear on my list, but I know you are correct, as I distinctly remember him making that sexy Topps All-Rookie team. Six points for Mike! Three for 1984! Another 2.9 for DoD, and finally 0.5 for stumping the band. That's 11.9 points! That's hard to do! You're in the game! Travis was also an unstoppable sex machine in 2014, and he sexes up your score by 11 points! You are relentless! You have now taken your game-leading score into triple digits!! John Milner, despite his name, never made me a hat. What he did do is collect 86 hits in 1972 and therefore collect 11.7 points for you. I'm not sure I remember a prior question about the rules. I appreciate you asking, because I'm used to people ignoring the fine print, and no small amount of the larger print, to be honest. What we are looking for is Mets rookie hits. Hits for some other team actually tend to work against the Mets' interests, and are therefore damnable. I don't mean to throw you. I might mean to project you, but never throw you. # SEASON ROOKIE HITS PROJECTION 1 PROJECTION 2 2026 Carson Benge 163.2 1 2019 Pete Alonso 155 2 2003 Ty Wigginton 146 3 1963 Ron Hunt 145 4 2000 Jay Payton 142 5 2010 Ike Davis 138 6 PROJECTION 3 7 8 1977 Lee Mazzilli 134 9 1989 Gregg Jefferies 131 10 1996 Rey Ordóñez 129 11 2004 Kazuo Matsui 125 11b 2003 Jason Phillips 120 12 2011 Justin Turner 113 13 1981 Hubie Brooks 110 14 1983 Darryl Strawberry 108 15 2001 Tsuyoshi Shinjo 107 PROJECTION 4 16 1977 Steve Henderson 104 PROJECTION 5 2026 AJ Ewing 99.5 17 1962 Jim Hickman 96 20B 1981 Ron Gardenhire 95 18 2013 Juan Lagares 95 19 1995 Edgardo Alfonzo 93 20 2014 Travis d'Arnaud 93 21 22 1986 Kevin Mitchell 91 23 1981 Mookie Wilson 89 24 2011 Lucas Duda 88 PROJECTION 6 25 1962 Rod Kanehl 87 26 1969 Wayne Garrett 87 26B 1988 Kevin Elster 87 27 1972 John Milner 86 28 29 2003 Jose Reyes 84 29B 1996 Alex Ochoa 83 29C 2004 Mike Fitzgerald 83 30 2023 Francisco Alvarez 80 INCORRECT GUESSES: Benny Agbayani Brett Baty Jeromy Burnitz Brian Giles Todd Hundley Jeff McNeil Daniel Murphy Omir Santos John Stearns Mike Vail David Wright Jared Young

All that is true about the rules and about Stearns, but he was (a) a second-stringer and (b) really bad at the plate in 1975, and so his 32 hits puts him out of the range of this chart. Good answer, coming up with the future Tampa Bay Ray, but you're copping out on naming the correct year. I'm giving you six points for the dude, one for the year, and 2.4 for degree-o'-diff. You're Gwreck's worst nightmare, but you've got to commit if you're going to catch him — none of that holding back safely and trying to accumulate Winston Cup points! # SEASON ROOKIE HITS PROJECTION 1 PROJECTION 2 2026 Carson Benge 163.2 1 2019 Pete Alonso 155 2 2003 Ty Wigginton 146 3 1963 Ron Hunt 145 4 2000 Jay Payton 142 5 2010 Ike Davis 138 6 PROJECTION 3 7 8 1977 Lee Mazzilli 134 9 1989 Gregg Jefferies 131 10 1996 Rey Ordóñez 129 11 2004 Kazuo Matsui 125 11b 2003 Jason Phillips 120 12 13 1981 Hubie Brooks 110 14 1983 Darryl Strawberry 108 15 2001 Tsuyoshi Shinjo 107 PROJECTION 4 16 1977 Steve Henderson 104 PROJECTION 5 2026 AJ Ewing 99.5 17 1962 Jim Hickman 96 18 2013 Juan Lagares 95 19 1995 Edgardo Alfonzo 93 20 20B 1981 Ron Gardenhire 95 21 22 1986 Kevin Mitchell 91 23 1981 Mookie Wilson 89 24 2011 Lucas Duda 88 PROJECTION 6 25 1962 Rod Kanehl 87 26 1969 Wayne Garrett 87 26B 1988 Kevin Elster 87 27 28 29 2003 Jose Reyes 84 29B 1996 Alex Ochoa 83 30 2023 Francisco Alvarez 80 STANDINGS: Gwreck: 87.45 Johnny Lunchbucket: 79.90 MFS62: 60.95 Frayed Knot: 23.32 whippoorwill: 16.30 kcmets: 6.90 cowtipper: 2.10 ashie 62: -2.00 INCORRECT GUESSES: Benny Agbayani Brett Baty Jeromy Burnitz Brian Giles Todd Hundley Jeff McNeil Daniel Murphy Omir Santos John Stearns Mike Vail David Wright Jared Young

JB hit 13 homers in 1996, but only 51 other hitzkoviches, for a total of 64. Outside the money. Giles definitely turned in his rookie card in 1982, during which he had but 29 kitkowskis. # SEASON ROOKIE HITS PROJECTION 1 PROJECTION 2 2026 Carson Benge 163.2 1 2019 Pete Alonso 155 2 2003 Ty Wigginton 146 3 1963 Ron Hunt 145 4 2000 Jay Payton 142 5 2010 Ike Davis 138 6 PROJECTION 3 7 8 1977 Lee Mazzilli 134 9 1989 Gregg Jefferies 131 10 1996 Rey Ordóñez 129 11 2004 Kazuo Matsui 125 11b 2003 Jason Phillips 120 12 13 1981 Hubie Brooks 110 14 1983 Darryl Strawberry 108 15 2001 Tsuyoshi Shinjo 107 PROJECTION 4 16 1977 Steve Henderson 104 PROJECTION 5 2026 AJ Ewing 99.5 17 1962 Jim Hickman 96 18 2013 Juan Lagares 95 19 1995 Edgardo Alfonzo 93 20 20B 1981 Ron Gardenhire 95 21 22 1986 Kevin Mitchell 91 23 1981 Mookie Wilson 89 24 PROJECTION 6 25 1962 Rod Kanehl 87 26 1969 Wayne Garrett 87 26B 1988 Kevin Elster 87 27 28 29 2003 Jose Reyes 84 29B 1996 Alex Ochoa 83 30 2023 Francisco Alvarez 80 STANDINGS: Gwreck: 89.45 Johnny Lunchbucket: 70.50 MFS62: 60.95 Frayed Knot: 23.32 whippoorwill: 16.30 kcmets: 6.90 cowtipper: 2.10 ashie 62: -2.00 INCORRECT GUESSES: Benny Agbayani Brett Baty Jeromy Burnitz Brian Giles Todd Hundley Jeff McNeil Daniel Murphy Omir Santos Mike Vail David Wright Jared Young

Well, JP is another phantom rookie. fangraphs says his rookieness expired between his 2001 and 2002 appearances, but baseball-reference says no. Unlike Jose Reyes and Ty Wigginton, he didn't get any RoY votes in 2003, but I'm still inclined to give you and baseball-reference the benefit of the doubt and count him. And that answer comes with 10.45 points. And 0.3 of those points come from shaming me. Murph and the Magictones' official debut was in 2008 — a terrific but abbreviated showing of 45 hits. Please take two steps back. Henderson, alas, has already been answered, but we will not dock you. The invocation of Alex brings more shame upon my dojo, for he too is not on my list but should be. His 1995 season was brief, but he retained (according to reasonable sources) his rookie eligibility in 1996. He got 83 hits and therefore belongs here. I'm giving you six points for being correct, two more for almost getting the correct year, 2.95 degree-of-difficulty points, and 0.4 stumping-the-DJ points, for an 11.35-point windfall, bumping your game-leading grand total up within one successful ABS challenge of 90 points! # SEASON ROOKIE HITS PROJECTION 1 PROJECTION 2 2026 Carson Benge 163.2 1 2019 Pete Alonso 155 2 2003 Ty Wigginton 146 3 1963 Ron Hunt 145 4 2000 Jay Payton 142 5 2010 Ike Davis 138 6 PROJECTION 3 7 8 1977 Lee Mazzilli 134 9 1989 Gregg Jefferies 131 10 1996 Rey Ordóñez 129 11 2004 Kazuo Matsui 125 11b 2003 Jason Phillips 120 12 13 1981 Hubie Brooks 110 14 1983 Darryl Strawberry 108 15 2001 Tsuyoshi Shinjo 107 PROJECTION 4 16 1977 Steve Henderson 104 PROJECTION 5 2026 AJ Ewing 99.5 17 1962 Jim Hickman 96 18 2013 Juan Lagares 95 19 1995 Edgardo Alfonzo 93 20 20B 1981 Ron Gardenhire 95 21 22 1986 Kevin Mitchell 91 23 1981 Mookie Wilson 89 24 PROJECTION 6 25 1962 Rod Kanehl 87 26 1969 Wayne Garrett 87 26B 1988 Kevin Elster 87 27 28 29 2003 Jose Reyes 84 29B 1996 Alex Ochoa 83 30 2023 Francisco Alvarez 80 STANDINGS: Gwreck: 89.45 Johnny Lunchbucket: 72.50 MFS62: 62.95 Frayed Knot: 23.32 whippoorwill: 16.30 kcmets: 6.90 cowtipper: 2.10 ashie 62: -2.00 INCORRECT GUESSES: Benny Agbayani Brett Baty Todd Hundley Jeff McNeil Daniel Murphy Omir Santos Mike Vail David Wright

Holy shitbears! I missed a guess! Jared Young! Good guy! Productive Met! Patriotic Canadian! Kinda bad at rundown plays! Not a rookie in 2026! That'll cut into your lead! Let's see if you can win those points back! Yes! A sparkling rookie! A Mets Holla Famer! A beloved World Series performer! And the 19th-ish guy on our list! That's 10.9 points for you to more than offset the two you lost! You kill me! You murder me!! You take me out back and put two in my chest and one in my head!! You have found a THIRD rookie season that FanGraphs has missed! They think (erroneously, I conclude) that he burned up all his rookie shit in 1981! But his 95 hits in 1982 score you six points for the dude, three for the year, two more for degree of difficulty, and 0.2 for making a flaming ass out of me! Again!!
