    I don't, but obviously MLB would need the association to sign off on it for it to come to pass. And MLB has a long history of (and more than a little success at) pitting the association members against the amateurs who would replace them.

    I'm getting the notion that Andy Green will neither become the permanent manager nor return to his prior role as farm director, but will perhaps instead end up filling the long-vacant GM role. That's not off the top of my head. Chelsea Janes of SNY is openly speculating about it. And when Chelsea Janes openly speculates, it's a thing.

    Yes, and I mean to say I would be mostly indifferent. And ... I don't think that's altogether weird.

    There is certainly a way to improve how that $42 million is spent. Jared Young has outplayed Bo Bichette this season. Luis Torrens and AJ Ewing have as well. All together, they cost the team less that $5 million and a surfeit of being smart. Bo Bichette can and certainly should improve over 2026. But also, the same money, more wisely invested, can certainly make the team better. I don't think it would be healthy to lock themselves into a single yes/no decision tree, especially since the ball is very much in his hands.

    I don't know what "$42M is a limited pool" means, let alone forward it as a premise. I also don't propose that "$42 million more cannot be spent," but obviously, the team has limits on how much they want to blow past the cap, and how much of a penalty they want to endure, and so I am mindful of that.

    I wouldn't be surprised. I disagree with the ethics of trading players, and I believe one can build a great team without it, but I certainly know it exists and that teams do it all the time. I've already mentioned one potential improvement (Teruaki Sato) above, but you don't have to improve at third. You just have to improve at how you spend that $42 million dollars.

    I haven't really watched the Knicks for more than a generation, but on the chance I stumbled upon them, I've enjoyed Breen, to some part because I found John Andariese and Marv Albert before him to be obnoxious presences. He and Frazier are a classy team.

    Luis Robert, Jr. is getting a day at the DH spot, with Brett Baty in left, so if the Mets have a lead in the sixth inning or later, this may be one of those once-a-week days we get to see some hot, sexy Christian Pache action.

    Teruaki Sato doesn't consider the options as limited as all that.

    You don't always spend on free agents. Sometimes, your big offseason investment is trading for an expensive player on another team. Sometimes, like with LIndor, it's a trade-and-sign. Sometimes, you spend on free agents, but put the money into two or three guys. It opens all kinds of interesting possibilities.

    This is key. The looming threat of a work stoppage has the potential to make the winter market un-naturally soft.

    I have been thinking on and off the last 12 hours whether this can ever be a sound strategic move. But obviously (or, at least, after a moment of thought), if it somehow gave you a better chance to be getting onto extra innings than to take your chances with two outs and a runner on first, you are better off attempting to steal second than throwing yourself away.

    One might not expect that panic from the team with the best record, but Hamiton had subbed into the game and maybe was trying too hard there.
