  1. That's not getting it done. That's actually really hard. And Vientos re-defines what it is to be a dead duck.
  2. That's definitely one of two likely outcomes.
  3. LIndor left with calf tightness, and now I feel bad.
  4. I wasn't overwhelmed with how Lindor was running on his hit, or when coming around on the double.
  5. So, there's a lot of baseball yet to play this evening, but ... if the Mets need a closer tonight, are you looking at Weaver, or Kimbrell? We will also accept Raley as an answer.
  6. Well, the top of the first was funnish.
  7. My experience is that fans of every team believe this. I think we tend to armor ourselves by disproportionally mentally collecting evidence that supports the fatalism. Meanwhile, the lineup goofing gets goofier. MINNESOTA Connor Prielipp LHP 0-0, No ERA to speak of Byron Buxton (R) CF Trevor Larnach (L) LF Josh Bell (S) DH Victor Caratini (S) C Kody Clemens (L) 1B Luke Keaschall (R) 2B Matt Wallner (L) RF Royce Lewis (R) 3B Brooks Lee (S) SS METS Clay Holmes RHP 2-2, 1.96 ERA SS Bo Bichette (R) 3B Juan Soto (L) DH Luis Robert Jr. (R) CF Francisco Lindor (S) SS Francisco Alvarez (R) C Mark Vientos (R) 1B Marcus Semien (R) 2B Tommy Pham (R) LF Tyrone Taylor (R) RF I just remembered that I have prielipp I've been meaning to ask the doctor about.
  8. Is that from 1962 or yesterday?
  9. As the best hopes for the Mets' 2026 season are currently on fire, only a fool would dismiss the importance of the return of Juan Soto. But his coming as a DH, and without an inning of rehab games, really ties the Mets hands, and suggests there are several more steps that will be needed to patch their assemblage into a consistently competitive lineup Transactions, 4/22/2026 GOING NEUTRAL COMING Demoted to Syracuse Transferred from Outfield Activated from Injured List Catchers Infielders Outfielders Hayden Senger MJ Melendez Juan Soto R/R DoB: 1997-04-03 High Level: MLB (2026) L/R DoB: 1993-11-29 High Level: MLB (2026) L/L DoB: 1998-10-25 High Level: MLB (2026) Hayden Senger exits the scene as but a phantom on the 2026 Mets — having not appeared in any of the four games since his callup. His presence was very slightly felt last night — to anyone who could feel anything besides cold, despair, and semi-ironic delight in the after-the-horses-left-the-barn performance of Austin Warren — as the Mets sent Luis Torrens up to pinch hit with confidence that they still had a backup catcher. But like much of the last dozen games, that appearance. Senger's unexpected callup does certainly speak to how much confidence the Mets have in MJ Melendez as a third-string catcher, which is apparently not much. But Soto taken over the DH slot for the time being displaces MJ (the Mets most consistent bat during this dark period), and suggests that any future work he gets will be competing with Brett Baty for time as righthanded firstbaseman — a position at which he has netted all of two innings in the majors and five more in the minors. What happens upon the return Jorge Polanco — another everyday player with a damaged lower body and positional unfamiliarity relegated to DH-ing — is a further mystery. The Mets are fighting just to survive the day. And that has been a consistenly losing fight for the last two weeks. But hey! Juan Soto, right?!!

  12. Revocable waivers are no longer a thing. Once players are claimed, they are gone.
  13. I'm hoping he got on the plane.
  14. So, the obvious guy to go down is Senger, whose role is pretty much an abstraction. And there is very little argument for the continued presence of Tommy Pham. But it may be a good idea to send down Carson Benge here. Soto's return will bump his demotion to a subtitle in the news, and it might be an opportunity to turn the inevitable into a little bit less of a blow. Benge is pretty much Travis Jankowski here — a baserunning/ballcatching specialist. That's not nothing but ... it's not helping the team and it's not helping him to eat it at the plate night in and night out.
  15. They'd have to put together an impressive run to get to 2023.
  16. This is grand slam territory.
  17. I agree with all except the "might" and the "start."
  18. FANS AT THE END OF THE FIFTH: It was supposed to be really cold tonight, but you know, I'm not really feeling it that much. FANS AT THE END OF THE SEVENTH: I am literally freezing my nuts off.
  19. Oh, it's already serious.
