As mentioned in the previous dead thread, he had been dealing with Parkinson's Disease for probably more than a decade. It is fair to ask whether his style of play was a factor in that. He was a steal when they got him for cash from the Braves, but beaten out for RoY by Pete Rose. Rose got 17 out of 20 votes but they were pretty much a dead heat statistically. My vote would probably have been for Ray Culp. Led the league in getting plunked seven straight years. Also (and possibly relatedly), by some accounts, predicted the latter-day coming of Jeff McNeil as a member of the Baseball Profanity Hall of Fame.

Davey Johnson didn't use PCs in the dugout. He brought data with him into the dugout, and had written on index cards that Rusty Staub (for example) was 1-for-10 against a certain pitcher, but that's a different thing.

There seems to be something intriguing going on with 18th-round pick Marcus Ward. All the scouting reports I have been able to find list him as an outfield draft prospect. The Mets, though, have him labeled as a pitcher, even though very few reports mention that he pitches as well, and those that do, only mention it as an afterthought. So either that's a clerical error or the Mets are seeing mystery talent.

Presumably, if and when Marcus Semien gets back, Baty will have to scratch for playing time, unless/until Bo Bichette gets dealt.
