    But the NFL doesn't cover, say, a Giants/Patriots game by rolling out Jason Pierre-Paul and Rob Gronkowski or the like, in order to project some sort of broadcast even-handedness? (It seems awful condescending.)

    Nick Allen is currently tipping the scales at 5'7," 166lb. one inch taller (but one pound fewer) than the official size of Jose Altuve, who just whiffed for the second time in the game, ending the top of the fifth. On the Mets side of the scales, AJ Ewing (who just walked leading off of the bottom of the inning) towers over both of them at 5'10" (but only 160).

    The former Rule V pick is in the news today as a high school baseball coach for going fists-versus-knife against a drunk guy threatening his players, and coming out on top. (For all reading along, while one has tip a hat to Lomon, fighting fists-against-knife is just about always a terrible idea.)

    Is this actually a better model? Does NBC or other telecast outlets try this with other sports? At least Zeile is a more experienced (and engaged) broadcaster than John Franco, but I'm working from the radio feed and GameDay webcast.

    Hey, he's not up in the big leagues, but a 1.03 WHIP in August, along with a 2.36:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio is certainly a big leap forward for a guy who was lost back in June (1.97 and 1.67:1, for comparison).

That last start today was a seven-inning, one-hit shutout.

    The organization loves your productivity, cal, but your availability the last two seasons has been real issue. Also, it's been a stinky time for the Nats to be on a modest win streak. Can one of you who's not as hot as cal take in a game or two in Washington?
