  1. I like that J.P. Crawford is still a Mariner all these years down the road.
  2. What does getting a 100 on the "Extension" meter represent? Does that mean he's bringing the ball from behind your head? Disappointing to hear about Langston. I was looking forward to seeing him on this trip.
  3. It may be hard to distinguish Caribbean teenagers at signing. One leads to another leads to another, and by the time they (maybe) get on the radar as prospects a few years later, much of what (if anything) might have distinguished them at signing has faded from memory, and you have to get a read on them all over again. Transactions, 5/28/2026 COMING Signed as International Amateur Free Agent out of The Dominican Republic, Not Yet Assigned Starting Pitchers Randiel Vicente R/R DoB: 2009-03-27 High Level: MLB (2026) Given half a chance, you might remember strapping young Randiel Vicente as the kid whose jacket lapels popped out of his uniform top in his signing photo. Or you might remember his disturbingly recent (but not recent enough) birthdate of March 27, 2009 being the date that shocked you into realizing kids born in 2009 were eligible to be signed. Michael Jackson died before this kid was born. Bitcoin was in circulation before this kid was born. The Miracle on the Hudson happened before this kid was born. What really makes him interesting though is had already been reported last month to be committed to The Phillies, so any value gained by signing this young man is lost to the Phillies, and that's double-stuff good. Hard to find confirmation but a Spanish-language report seemed to suggest he trained with old friend Hansel Robles, who is still bringing it this summer in The Mexican League.

  6. Who questioned it here? If someone did, and didn't make a big deal out of him playing second in The World Series, I would imagine that would be due in part to folks here not having a big stake in The Blue Jays.
  7. He was chasing balls up at his chin level all weekend. After swinging at two of those with the bases loaded, he finally let ball four pass, took his walk and his RBI, and let Soto bring them all home. I'm hoping that might be the beginning of his chase-mania calming down. In the meantime, it's been kind of dis-spiriting seeing the top of the order come up as I feel initial encouragement before realizing he's batting between Benge and Soto. It's part of a pattern of not really having any good righthanded options, but I'd sorta rather see Semien in there.
  8. It may well have gone unannounced, but one of the Mets PA announcers is Marysol Castro, morning news anchor at WPIX, and while she does a professional job, she presents her lineup changes sometimes in the same tone as light entertainment, and "Now batting for Jankowski ... number three ... Jesse Winker!" comes out with the same tone and cadences as "Everybody get up and do The Hokey-Pokey!" It's fine and polished, but it can be the sort of birthday-party "Hey, it's Princess Crumblemuffin!" tone that dads often get into the habit of tuning out. It lacks the classic Bob Sheppard "If you don't pay attention now, you could easily DIE!" gravitas, but hey, that's kind of silly, too.
  9. With some bad starts normalizing a bit toward the mean, and slumping players finding something like a footing. A recent outburst of productivity (and creativity!) has launched wayward Marcus Semien above The Ordóñez Line, as he has today reached the lofty peak of a .615 OPS. While a figure in the low .600's is hardly a shiny figure, his double-play partner is not so fortunate. The following 2026 Mets still need to get with the program and get their OPSes above .600: Austin Slater: .586 (and presumably done with the 2026 Mets) Bo Bichette: .583 Luis Torrens: .567 Hayden Senger: .539 Ronny Mauricio: .532 (and IL-ing it) Jorge Polanco: .532 (and rehabbing with Binghamton) Tyrone Taylor: .530 (and chilling on the IL as well) Vidal Bruján: .347 (and flying out against a position player today) Nick Morabito: .083 (back in Syracuse, acting all embittered and short with his teammates) Tommy Pham: .071 (last seen in the minors with Baltimore, wondering if his tenure on the 2026 Mets even actually happened) Andy Ibáñez: .000 (Syracusing it and dreaming of any kind of second chance)
  10. Ahead of that, they have a bit of a climb. While they are out of last place in the division, they are essentially the best of the bad teams. They need to climb four more games to join what is essentially the pack — Pittsburgh, Chicago, Cincinnati, Washington, and Philadelphia all sitting somewhere between even with and 1.5 games out of the last Wild Card spot.
  11. Were you living in Pennsylvania yet? Mazzili was a Pirate in 1984.
  12. Marlon has been guessed. Bretty Baty is the name we are looking for!! Late in the 2023 season, Kim Brr Ill came on for the Phillies looking for the save, and was undone by a one out homerun from Baty. Yeah, the Phils went on to win in extra innings due to a stupid, stupid rule, but it was still an act of regional heroism. As four different posters got our four different answers, I am declaring Coo to be our Craig Kwizbrel winner! Thanks for playing! Correct: Brett Baty (whippoorwill) — September 22, 2023, 9th inning, game tying https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/PHI/PHI202309220.shtml Lucas Duda (duan) — 9th inning, tack-on, September 18, 2011 https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/ATL/ATL201109180.shtml Mark Vientos (The Hot Corner) — August 21, 2024, 7th inning, go-ahead https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYN/NYN202408210.shtml David Wright (Gwreck) — May 3, 2013, 9th inning, game tying https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/ATL/ATL201305030.shtml Incorrect: Pete Alonso Marlon Boid (x2) Jay Bruce Asdrubal Cabrera Yoenis Cespedes Ike Davis Wilmer Flores Curtis Granderson Francisco Lindor Daniel Murphy (x2) Brandon Nimmo
  13. Peterson going for the four-inning save, which I decree should henceforth be known as a "Blackburn."
  14. Sanoja doing position player pitching for the TENTH time in his career. Strange days.
Là lariulà pesce fritt'e baccalà Uei cumpà no calamare c'eggi'accattà!!
  16. Syracuse also beat Rochester 11-6 today behind homers from Morabito, Clifford and Cluff. The Mets not in fourth place yet, but I can smell it from here!
  17. WOW, could Soto have watched that any more confidently?
  18. Bichette chased a couple of pitches up and in. Finally laying off one got him the bases-loaded walk. Really, if he lays off of that fastball up on his hands, it'll make a big diff for him going forward.
  19. Running around that ball to take it forehand forced Bichette to stay back on it. That ate up all his margin for error. The tiniest of trouble on the transfer was more than he could afford.
  20. Mets were 12-for-44 (.273) with the bags full before that hit by Torrens. Now a lofty 13-for-45 (.289).
