  1. I guess we're the only team in the league that didn't scout Freddy Fermin?
  2. "He thinks I was born old." Two more guys need to reach to bet Benge to the plate for a sixth time.
  3. Had they used Raley last night ... ah, forget it.
  4. Let's rally in the ninth and get Benge a sixth trip to the plate.
  5. Medwick was famously cantankerous and combatitive — to the point where the commissioner took the initiative to personally kick him out of a World Series game. (We could have used you in 2000, Commissioner Landis!) I imagine his crankiness and walking style and a lifetime of days under the summer sun made him appear older to a very young Keith.
  6. Strange to see the Mets use three straight lefties out of the pen in a row.
  7. Sixty-six pitches from Manaea. I don't particularly understand the point of using openers if they don't push starters/bulk relievers deeper into the game.
  8. Hopefully in about seven or eight weeks, Ewing takes the same great leap forward that Benge is now taking.
  9. I imagine they were looking at information coming from the official scorer. I'm pretty sure MJ gets an RBI on that homer, but the rules are apparently relentlessly arcane, so I don't know.
  10. Thankfully, Tatis is using something that is not his head.
  11. Those runs they left out there are really missed about now.
  12. And a walk to Soto, and a single by Mighty Jared Young and we have one home and still the bases loaded with no out. Chance to blow this one up as the Diegos go to the pen.
  13. Two singles to open the fifth has the stage set for Soto.
  14. Baseball going on, kids. I haven't offended you all, have I?
  15. Rather than doing some sort of sledgehammer swing, now, when the Mets get base hits (or at least on Baty's double just now), they do some sort of Spider-Man webshooter gesture. Which, if I'm interpreting it correctly, has some Queens pedigree in it, which is nice.
  16. Bo Bichette back out there despite whatever went down with his shoulder yesterday. The only concession the Mets make to a Sunday day game, in fact, is moving Soto to DH. METS STARTING PITCHER: Huascar Brazobán RHP 3-1, 2.25 ERA, 26 SO LINEUP: Carson Benge (L) RF Bo Bichette (R) SS Juan Soto (L) DH Jared Young (L) 1B A.J. Ewing (L) CF Marcus Semien (R) 2B Brett Baty (L) 3B MJ Melendez (L) LF Luis Torrens (R) C SAN DIEGO STARTING PITCHER: Randy Vásquez RHP 5-3, 3.31 ERA, 50 SO LINEUP: Fernando Tatis Jr. (R) 2B Jackson Merrill (L) CF Ty France (R) 1B Manny Machado (R) 3B Xander Bogaerts (R) SS Miguel Andujar (R) DH Jase Bowen (R) RF Samad Taylor (R) LF Freddy Fermin (R) C
  17. Enjoy. Elian is not only the top prospect on the team, but at just 18, he may be their best player, rocking a .409 OBP. Slugger Randy Guzman is also bringing it. Top starter Emilo Obispo is not an actual bishop.
  18. Brooks Raley had had two sweet days off, but Mendoza went to Warren, presumably for the right-on-right matchups. Soto's lineout double-play killed.
  19. Good pitch to swing at on 3-1, but I'd still have him taking. This guy threw 17 pitches last night.
  20. He's not even Senger. He's had the lion's share of the starts at catcher. He just has had the most awful season. But hey, Bichette's shoulder is OK enough to turn on the high pitch.
  21. That lead-turning homer was to perhaps the worst hitter in the league.
  22. Well, Austin Warren seems like a bad idea.
  23. Mendoza holding off on the hook and Semien swinging the bat puts McLean in a position to exit the game with a lead.
