Added Torre. Please vote again, as editing the poll can wipe out the numbers.
-
I can throw him into the vote certainly, but I'd guess that the plurality of his career value was earned at catcher.
-
Excellent thoughts. Jeff Kent over Alomar? We'll let the voters decide.
-
Only Gil Hodges has wieners on his card, so...

Who was the greatest firstbasmean in Major League history to ever don a Mets uniform, without achieving all-time Met status. In other words, greatest firstbaseman in MLB history, who played for the Mets (no matter how well or poorly), not named Hernandez.

Could and should. Good call.

"So, Jerry Lewis --- saint or maniac?" "Caruso or Lanza --- who was the better Pagliacci?"

Dubiously saluting the Mets with the best careers at each position, with no regard whatsoever to their Mets performance, except that they all failed to achieve All-Time Mets status. That's the only disqualifier. c: Yogi Berra 1b: Carlos Delgado 2b: Roberto Alomar ss: Toughy --- Tony Fernandez, Gary Templeton, Roy McMillan, and Jim Fregosi all have cases. 3b: Ken Boyer? lf: George Foster (sorry, Jason Bay) cf: Willie F. Mays rf: Um... Rusty Staub? rhsp: Warren Spahn or Pedro Martinez lhsp: Johan Santana or Frank Viola or Mickey Lolich? lhrp: Billy Wagner rhrp: Mike Marshall or Armando Benitez or Jeff Reardon? Manager: Casey Stengel GM: George Weiss or Bing Devine or Sandy Alderson

He's in the race now. Lynn is a pretender, sez I.

I think a helmet on a pitcher has an instant value. As for redesigning outfield walls, I though Mizuno was on this a generation ago, but maybe NPB adopted their innovations but MLB took a pass. I think marathon is the guy to take the stateside lead. I'm investing with him.
-
I imagine they'll both have their day. Fonzie, certainly. By the way, I shouldn't let this pass without a big BOOOOOOOOOO for selecting McDowell over Benitez. The Mets PR people would do well to facilitate the rehabilitation of Benitiez' image among Mets fans.
-
I guess the message is... strike early and often. Get to the bullpen early because if the starters get them there with a lead, teams are cooked.

IGT 6/17/12 Reds @ Mets Young v. Cueto It's a lock!!!

Did Michael Milken do his bit in the booth this year? -
Yeah, you wonder how much can be spared by a little more application of shock absorption technology. Maybe the brims of hats and helmets need to be more collapse-able also.
-
Johnson is certainly a defensible choice, given the unfortunate shortness of Hodges' tenure, but these are supposed to be hard choices. Nice to see Cleon get his day. Folks typically forget about Cle' when doing these things.
-
Is it worth a thought to consider sending outfielders who've endured a concussion out on the field with helmets, a la Jon Olerud?
-
Well, it's not really a question of "now" except to psychologically put things behind them. For "now," he's on the shelf and that decision can be shelved too. I imagine that Bay doesn't want to be forced into a decision, and he frankly needs a clear head to make one.
