  1. I demand hand jiving between innings!
  2. I just ran into a pile of tweets in which Met fans are compared to Hippocrates of Cosa because they objected to Swishy in a way they did no object to equivalent behavior by Reyes. Is that true? Did we do that?
  3. Car(d)s.
  4. A little late to play that card, but yeah.

His defense is neither a best-case nor a worst-case scenario, which I think we all could live with if he's doing his job with the bat. On that score, is rate stats are close to normal with the glaring exception of his slugging being down 100 points. It sometimes happens that while someone is forced to make an adjustment in one part of their game, they fail to make adjustments in others. Sucks, but considering that we're on our fourth shortstop, it's something we have to grind along with. And that's really what's to love about Murphy, I think. Total grinder. Like he stays with a groundball he mishandles, and sometimes makes the play anyhow, he stays with his career vicissitudes through a lot of bumps and fumbles too. I think he may yet make something out of this season. But he could lose some time to Valdy and Q-Tip if and when Tejada and Cedeo come back.

  10. Glad to hear it, but I imagine something close to half the guys on a mid-season AA roster will get at least a taste of the majors. Reese Havens, Mark Cohoon, Adrian Rosario, Armando Rodriguez --- all these guys should get at least a crack. Heck, Rob Carson's already been there.
  11. Yeah, go whole hog with this classick:
  12. Yeah, there's definitely some things I like about the Mets design, but in general, it's the weakest on the page here so far. But I ain't gone to any games at Citi this year, so I'm not missing anything either way.
  13. I guess I have to admire managers and GMs. Most of them act like that. "I am the caretaker of this organization for the long haul." Even though there's too often no place for them beyond the short haul.
  14. Oh, baby, you're missing out on some loveliness. I'm going to guess you're not breaking Ms. Iwanow's heart. Anyhow, I posted those cards not to expose Deb to derision, but rather to observe that, "Cool! She has cars!"
  15. I'd start by doing away with WWF-inspired PA intros. The Nationals Park guy for years has been introuducing me me to RRRRRYannn ZIMMerMANNnnn!! with this awful voraciously cocky cadence that says And he's DOing your GIRLfriend and she LIIKES it!!! I feel filthy after every home half inning.
  16. Just the idea that a team would consider a variety of viable ways to present a ballgame, and varying among them, is pretty great.
  17. I guess it's time to come clean. I'm Keith Hernandez.
  18. St. Lucie clinches the first half championship by a rollicking 16.5 games. (Apparently there was a chick on the team.)
  19. Interesting thought. GYC lists "UB, New Jersey" has his location. I think our broadcaster lives in Connecticut, for what that's worth.
  20. Outfielders (which KP was for 250 games) tend to make even fewer errata. Pinch-hitters, still fewer.

  23. Pretty much dead on. Not so much in the way of stereotype rastamem (though there's some overbroad stuff there). And more plot and fewer set pieces than your standard Police Academy film. What struck me is what a wet blanket it was on some hot careers. Harold Ramis had done big hits Caddyshack and National Lampoon's Vacation by then, but wouldn't come back until 1993 with Groundhog Day. With Bob Marley dead and Peter Tosh in a sort of professional exile, Jimmy Cliff was poised for a breakthrough. (Springsteen had just included a version of Cliff's "Trapped" on the megaselling USA for Africa album.) Even as he played a character in the film resenting being sanitized for the masses, he was reggae's biggest hope for a market in Babylon America. The film failed and he hasn't appeared as an actor since, and his singing profile in the US continued to wane even after Tosh was killed.
