    He qualifies, as Jose is now our All-Timer, and you can certainly vote for him. For most of these, I put the eight leading WAR guys I can find on the ballot. I accidentally included nine. Bud was just out of that money.

    You may wonder who is coming out ahead so far. It's a little bit complicated, because the deal is heavily backloaded, suggesting Reyes wants to run up an early lead if he's going to win this one for you, Ceetar. According to Fangraphs, Reyes has so far checked in with $6.4 million in production. This year he's scheduled to make $10,000,000. Prorate to 68 games and he's been paid $4,197, 531. That's the sound of Reyes and Ceetar ahead by $2,202,469.

    Who was the greatest shorstop in Major League history to ever don a Mets uniform, without achieving all-time Met status. In other words, greatest shortstop in MLB history, who played for the Mets (no matter how well or poorly), not named Reyes. He also should have a minimum representation of one game there as a Met.

    Is anybody else dubious that that sort of thing should be off-limits? Do you think anybody is actually going to say to his agent, "Well, Washington is offering $15 million per over four years, and Milwaukee offering $13.2 over three with an option. But if I go to Washington and cheat, they might whistle me when I'm on my next club." That's koo-koo.

    The way Dillon Gee is building on Dickey and Johan's efforts, the Orioles are seriously looking a team meeting before the weekend. Ten straight and 18 of 20 for the G-man.

    Betemit's a really useful utility-infielder-with-pop guy, though. He's on his seventh team and will likely hit four or five more before he's done. He often starts a season on the bench but ends up playing every day for half of it, as soon as they figure out where they need him. A lot of one-year deals ahead for him.
