  1. I like how he constructed it. It's different than the way me mostly have --- by selecting our second-best all-time players at each position to round out the bench, five number one starters to round out the rotation, five relief aces for the pen. I could quibble here and there, but the notion of Terry Leach vs. Pat Mahomes vs. Harry Parker for "Best Swing-Man" is a discusion worth having.
  2. Ruben Tejada batting (and on-basing) .095 in his 21 (2-21, no walks) rehab plate appearances with St. Lucie and Buffalo. Both hits were doubles, of course, because he's Ruben Tejada.
  3. That boy ain't right.
  4. I speak humbly as one whose Redthread initiated serious sweepage, as well as cripplage to Jason Bay. BOOOOO, MEEEE!!
  5. Hey, off day today! And you know who we signed? Nobody! GUH! Meanwhile, 19th round pick Taylor Vandeheiden turned out to be 56 years old.
  6. Proof is in the pudding, though. If we get our asses kicked again, it's the fault of this thread and the lack of non-penis knowledge it offers.
  7. The greater question is: How many beers is marathon gonna down tonight?
  8. That totally happened to me once. Jo knew the pimp and kicked his ass, right?
  9. He'll talk to Blair. They all talk to Blair.
  10. No, see, I'm awesome when I do it. CAN'T YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE??!!
  11. Mmmmm... Ice meal... . Ceetar wrote: I'd still wager he'll be valuable through all 6 years of it. We're just going to circle around this one all day and night.
  12. This is the seventh big league season 'e's appeared in over eight years. Why would 'e 'ave options?
  13. Yeah, I think Turner and Cedeo are going to be stealing some PA from him going forward.
  14. That's welcome news, but let's focus our hope on the the Mets not being the team that turns them around.
  15. Well, it's not a given, but nobody comes off the DL only to get walking papers. Valdespin has options. Ronny does not. So he gets a chance to float.
  16. Omar, I think, will survive. Valdy or Turner would go sooner at this point. Crappy fielding team. I think it behooves us to keep our gloves around. Q is outhitting the field, too. And he outhit Valdespin in Buffalo, too. Next week may change that, but my money's on Q surviving both returns. He's been that good!
  17. Rottino is the one probably heading out. Quintanilla holds on to the starting outfield job and Cedeo joins Turner as the backup infielder pair. Valdy joins the outfield mix. That leaves them a little thinner from the right side, but I think that's the way they're going. They haven't found much PT for Rottino, and they seem to be giving Ike more faith against lefties (warranted? eh). The real pinch is when Tejada comes back.
  18. We're gonna have to resist the temptation to completely outsource opinions on defense to the WAR compilers, though, I think.
  19. Fernandez played a long time, and at the top of his game, he fielded like Ozzie and hit like Templeton. Only in Canada.
  20. We're not talking about a specific replacement player. When we measure relative value of one player against another --- Jose Reyes vs. Mark Teixiera vs. Zack Greineke --- we are measuring them all against a non-existent abstraction, a statistical meanpoint of countless replacements that have fallen off the figurative turnip truck. Why do these things trip up such a simple question? Because the idea is to simplify the question.
  21. I don't think we're adequately wrapping our head around the concept of "replacement player," but the idea is that they do, more or less, grow on trees.
  22. I guess you do want that crown after all. This isn't that hard, at all. It really seems obvious, and I wrote as clearly as I could. With sparkling brevity. Mora only made 12.7% of his MLB appearances at shortstop, so, as we're looking at "greatest shortstop in MLB history" as a primary criterion, he wasn't so included as a selection. Nor was Wright, who has earned .0001% of his value at shortsotp. We included Mora's among the names on the third base ballot, as he garnered the plurality of his career value there. Now, if you want to vote for Mora, or Dunston, or Harrelson, or Wright, please just click Other, write in the name, and be done with it.
  23. The only canyon I'm thinking of my team meandering into is the Canyon of Heroes.
  24. Pitchers are not more valuable, so much as (a) historic seasons by pitchers are more valueable than those for batters and/or ( we've hosted historic seasons by pitchers, but not by batters.
