  1. They've changed some of the rules over the years, even going so far as to strike some no-hitters from the record book, so I wouldn't necessarily be surprised if they decided to discount no-hitters that weren't shutouts. I think they ruled --- 20 years or so ago --- that it had go at least nine innings and your team had to win. Poor David Palmer had a perfect game stricken from the records, because it had only gone five innings, before being shortened by rain. The rational defense of Palmer would be that he didn't ask it to rain; he just went out and did his job. Perfectly. He even made a point of going out and throwing the first four innings perfectly in his next start. Against the Mets, I think. Darryl Kile's no-hitter against the Mets in 1993 featured a run scored by Jeff McKnight. I imagine there is some letdown in pitching the game of your career (unless you're Nolan Ryan or somebody), and still not keeping the other team off the board. Just a staggering thought that, had David Wright been at the top of his game, we might've had two perfect games in one evening.
  2. 5-3. First Perfecto in 128 years of Giants baseball. Smoly smoke.
  3. 1-2 count...
  4. Castro hitting .281.
  5. Jason Castro pinch-hitting. San Francisco local boy.

  7. Chris Snyder coming up. .189 hitter.
  8. [bigpurple:i7d03yok]FO-7[/bigpurple:i7d03yok]
  9. Brian Bogusevic leads off. .225 hitter.
  10. Yeah, there've been so many Mets fans the last two games, you'd think it was Miami.
  11. Eight innings. Fourteen strikeouts. No baserunners.
  12. Somebody really wants to steal that All-Star start from Dickey.

  14. Matt Cain vs. Houston so far tonight. IPHRERBBSOHR60000110 RAD may not even walk off with the best performance of the evening.
  15. Phillie phans of my knowing could. not. be. more pessimistic about the likelihood they can make something of this season, and are already envisioning a dismantling of their championship-powered squad. That's largely the over-stated hopelessness of folks whose team is on a losing streak, but there's one big plum in their pudding, and that's Cole Hamels. Given that... ... he's an AS caliber pitcher, ... his team is playing their way out of contention, ... he's a free-agent at the end of the year, ... the team is already over-burdened with heavy contracts, ... he's something of a five-tool tool, I'd call it about even money that he finishes the year as a Yankee.
  16. Well, um, whatever the number is, Dickey is the new record holder. Looks like the number is 32 2/3. Hist'ry in the makin'. Current leader: Miguel Batista with 16 2/3. I think.
  17. Yeah, i hear you on the weekly start thing. Heck, make him always pitch Friday night, or always pitch Sunday if he prefers. I'm curious to see Davey Johnson handle this, but I imagine he's a lot more willing to roll over for upper management than he was in his heyday.
  18. Stinky. In a good way.
  19. Bizarre the way his hand doesn't seem to have followed through.

In my suspicious mind, I envision a combo of factors. An undisclosed injury? 4% A different offensive approach? 21% A lack of focus due to defensive position change? 15% A random statistical anomaly? 27% He's off the`roids? 0% Other? He's executing poorly 33% I feel like this isn't something fans should ring their hands over as options are thin. They're taking the field nightly with one backup infielder as it is. I think they'll ride him as long as they can and if he survives the season, reassess. But I think we knew all along the job was his until somebody takes it from him, and nobody was committing to him at second long-term.

  22. A great day for all you fellow interstate haters: [*:3pcolunk]Nickeas goes 2-4 to raise his average to a still-terrifying .155.[/*:m:3pcolunk] [*:3pcolunk]Davis goes 2-3 to make a move toward local traffic at .181.[/*:m:3pcolunk] [*:3pcolunk]Bay goes 1-5, which, uninspiring though it may be, is still good enough to make the needle go up a little, to .183.[/*:m:3pcolunk] [*:3pcolunk]Torres goes 3-5 to, hopefully, leave the itinerant life on the road behind forever, finishing at .221.[/*:m:3pcolunk][/list:o:3pcolunk]
  23. On top of signing Wright, how the heck do you figure out what kind of package to offer Dickey?
  24. Interesting to see Duda sit against the lefty but not Davis.
