A hit for Reyes in captivity. On the interstate!

Howie Rose just broke out his Gilbert Gottfried imitation. I've heard worse.

And biggest out.

Biggest at-bat of the year for Grandy.

These Are the Guys on the Interstate Curtis Granderson: On I-59, looking for an exit around Tuscaloosa, AL. Wilmer Flores: On I-71, draining his knee in a restroom near Walton, KY. Juan Lagares: Is asking directions to I-33, puzzling bunches of fellow travelers who can't seem to explain to him that it doesn't exist. These Are the Guys on the State Roads T.J. Rivera: On State Road 100, caught in a bottleneck while trying to get on the Taconic. José Reyes: On State Road 95, wondering where in the hell Bombay, NY, actually is, terrified that he's heading back to the Blue Jays. Ty Kelly (and his 0-1) dreams of even getting his car back.

They certainly have younger, faster players. Whether they are going to be better at on-basing is another matter, but I agree with everything you write. But it seems like something is broken in the philosophy. They preach plate discipline throughout the system and they hack like animals up in the big leagues.

No, it was last night. Free-Shirt Friday. Thanks for starting the nu thread.

Zvon wrote: Lost, indeed. They were two-hit. Waddaya say, cooby? Start the thread for tomorrow's game?

And he pulls him with one guy left and he's not even the tying run. #stupid But d'Arnaud flies deep and the game is the game.

And Dusty Baker sticks with the lefty. Who's the dinosaur now?

That Álex Torres sure had a hatt marvey. I'll say that much. Let's home Recty Rollins has a full roster to work with.

You can't win a war of attrition with reserves you pulled out of the stands. Big story out of camp was "Look at all this depth!" Well, show the gumption to call on it, man.

Weird radio ad (aren't they all, these days?) featuring heiress Victoria Hearst going up against the family business, decrying Cosmopolitan as trash.

Bunt, Laggy!

Bruce 0-9 with four K's vs. Ollie. But if Harper can defy the past, so can Jay.

Benjamin Grimm wrote: Does José lead the league in one-pitch at bats? Is there any way to look that up? I'd guess that too, but I just checked and there are 44 qualifying guys who have seen fewer pitches/plate appearance. So if he leads the league in one-pitch appearances, he must have a few nine-pitch trips to make up for it. http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/stats?season=2017&category=BATTING+II&group=1&sort=15&time=0&pos=0&qual=1&sortOrder=1&splitType=0&statID=0

Pinch hit double for the pitcher!

Zach Wheelie, pinch hittin'. Mets, short benchin'.

And welcome to the season, Curtis Granderson! Time for you to follow, José Reye ... too late — instant popout and the cheers turn to boos. Blegh.

And then Confy makes a catch leaning over the tarp. I'm working with the radio, so I don't know, but I've seen enough of 2017 Céspedes to get the idea that he wouldn't be close enough to pick up the ball and toss it to the crowd.

I don't know who the stringer is doing the Newsday bit, but she's more engaging than Carig usually manages to be.

No accounts?! Harvey hits a dude in the helmet. Bryce Harper, who has never touched him, hits a two-run homer. Conforto answers with a solo shot of his own to lead off for the Mets just as I'm posting our horrible leadoff numbers. Rivera gets Wilmer Difo on a caught stealing. There's only room for ONE Wilmer in this town, Buddy, and HE'S got a staph infection! Harvey strikes out Muh, and you can feel the momentum shifting.

Apart from the soggy news of the injury outbreak, the blanket is a little wetter still when you consider that, given two days to make some transactions to get the roster equilibrium back in order, they're still working with a bencho bajo. Yeah, I noted that. But I think you'd agree that this season's level of small-sample-size futility is not exactly representative.
