  1. I don't see going from every day to DFA, unless you take a shit on Terry's desk or beat up your father-in-law in the corridor outside the clubhouse or something. There are less drastic ways to adjust. Even at 33 going on 34, he still something like the team's best athlete.
  2. I don't think it's particularly taxing to have a starter pitch into the seventh if he's doing well. The eighth? It's been known to happen. Does it increase the risk of injury. Sure. It's generally a marginal, but it's a real one and pitches accumulate. But eventually you have to accept that prevention that causes you to regularly lose winnable games is not worth it. And in the end, having good relievers pitch four or five days a week instead of two or three is also taxing and increases injury risk too. Maybe moreso. Less recovery time and whatnot. And lesser pitchers end up in high-leverage situations. They just do. Over and over. Last night and the night before and the night before that. Benjamin Grimm wrote: The way I look at it, if you use five pitchers in a game instead of two, you have three more guys who might potentially be having a bad day. And that one bad inning that you get from that pitcher could cost you the game. If a pitcher is doing well, and hasn't thrown too many pitches, keep him in. Ride him as long as you can. It seems a simple principle. If you lift someone who is succeeding, you continually place another priority ahead of succeeding. Eventually, and with increasingly regularity, you will fail.

  4. First-pitch swinging and the game ends. Just awful.

Raffy Hunter-o has a career 1.76 WHIP in 79-plus IP coming into tonight, and is giving up 4 baserunners per inning this year over 6 appearances. It's about additions, man. This game has mostly trended bad since Reyes swung at the first pitch in the first inning.
  6. Knock that dribbly shit down, Cabrera.
  7. Montero shmontero. I'm telling you. Offense.
  8. That second hop seemed to skip. Got to step up and get the long hop. Play it like a third baseman.
  9. Yeah, except there's never enough pitching if you're not planning on scoring more than twice. Doubly so if you're not scoring and your starter is going five. Just never.
  10. Rafael Montero, in a high-leverage situation.
  11. I didn't say I lacked faith. I gave him a 6% chance at reaching 3,000 hits. A generous thought, I would suggest.
  12. Sheesh, why? It's not like the "LOLMets" are the only team to drop a pop. Offense.
  13. Reyes gets the error and deserves it. But d'Arnaud didn't do him any favors.
  14. Mets don't need one more pitcher. Mets need more than two runzzz.
  15. Pete Mackanin ought to be yanking Galvis.

  17. I don't want the Fernando Salas Story to turn the way the Fernando Nieve Story did.
  18. Salas with the walk. Tying run at the plate. Having a Phlorida phlashback.

I'm not impressed either, but he's on the verge of 2,000 hits. Lightning could strike, he gets entrenched at a nu position, and suddenly he has five more healthy years in him. I'd give that about a 6% chance, though. It's as likely that he gets released and hangs them up within a month, I guess.
  20. Weird to see fans ovate a starting pitcher for getting through five.
  21. Benjamin Grimm wrote: That seemed like a double all the way to me. The ball bounced back to the outfielder pretty quickly. Sure, but I've never known Reyes to stop on ball hit there. I'm not saying he shouldn't have.
