He's a tubby lout that can't hold down a job in a competitive endeavor. He's perfect. America 2017: (Mediocrity + Confidence) X Volume = Excellence

Well, when you're down by two with no outs, you definitely want to send that runner from third. And you want to send him with explicit instructions to not slide. I want to fire myself at this point.

Tebow's surprising mediocrity is a delight, but the real story out of the Sally League is the demonic performance of Merandy Gonzalez. That guy is the hottest thing to hit Columbia since Sherman's army.

Nobody's cutting Walker and Granderson any time soon. I'm not sure which kids are going to play for Granderson, but there's a good chance he sees a lot more pine once Duda returns. Nimmo also began his rehab assignment for St. Lucie last night, going 1-3 with a walk, a double, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI.

[fimg=500:27i9jqco]http://a.abcnews.com/images/WNT/abc_wn_andy_rooney_111026_wg.jpg[/fimg:27i9jqco] Why is the body part called a "tend[u:27i9jqco]o[/u:27i9jqco]n," but the ailment called "tend[u:27i9jqco]i[/u:27i9jqco]nitis"?

Syndergaard scratched. Harvey to take the hill. Mother of pearl. OE: I am not kidding.

A lot of brilliant writers looking for work in 2017, in a world where we all give it away for free, and half-baked guys get the clicks. I know there's an answer. I know now but I have to find it by myself.

Had they stuck with Syndergaard last night, they could have used Gsellman in Wheeler's turn, and so crossed off a start in in the ZW POST-OP INNINGS SUPRESSSION mission.

When a team is down 8-1 in the bottom of the seventh, and get guys on first and third with no outs, and the next batter swings at the first pitch and hits a sacrifice fly, and he gets congratulations through the dugout, something is fundamentally flawed in their philosophy and approach. And they don't seem to realize it at all.

Merandy kills it again, pitching 7 2/3 scoreless in a 5-0 win over the Asheville Tourists. He's now 4-0 and he is THE MAN WITHOUT AN ERA! Sixth shoutout of the year for the Fireflies.

There's a theory out there, though, that the total $$ of these salaries shed won't really cut meaningfully into their obligations owed to the leagues for these rights, and what they're really doing is about symbolic austerity, trying to keep investors from bailing by demonstrating that they can make the hard cuts now to guarantee profit$ down the road.

It kinda got old to hear Ron Darling lament this evening that the Mets swapped Gilmartin for Reynolds when they could have used a mopup guy. What they could have used tonight was something resembling an offense. Congratulations to the 2016 Mets spare parts who have new homes in the Atlantic League. Only Kelly Johnson (still looking for a big league deal), Zach Thornton (former Ike Davis trade bait), Adrian Abreu (juicing catcher), Raywilly Gomez (journeyman catcher), and Nuiman Romero (short-time big leaguer) are still out there looking for jobs. Discovered! Rainy is pitching for the Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League! Only seven innings so far, but them's seven shutout innings! The Mets will be wanting you back soon enough, Rainy!

Matchup of the two featured guys in a much-noted trade. Somewhere, John Buck, Mike Nickeas, and Josh Thole will be gathered round the set.

FARTY GAME, GUYS!!

Why? Are? You? Swinging?

Eric O'Flaherty: THIS is the test!

If the runner was in motion, Ronnie, that Granderson punch drops in.

OK, guys, sure. Trackman is cool. But there's a story in front of you here.

Has every throw to first this game been in the dirt or close?

Remember, we asked for this. We had a chance to skip our #5 starter and go right back to Blondie.

You know, apart from pitching, hitting, and defense ...

Only two Mets with 200 or more hits in a single season: Lance Johnson. Felix Millan.

Just get baserunners now.
