Greensleeves. Ah yes ... I think of it more as yellow, but that's gotta be the reason. I'll give them points for effort anyway.

  4. I really hope we don't regret not cashing in some insurance runs there. Familia is not exactly filling me with CAHNfidence lately.
  5. This pitcher is the Jason Motte who was briefly a closer for the Cardinals with his big bushy beard. He then ran into all kinds of injury problems and I totally lost track of him. I only recognized him from his motion.

  7. IF YOU NEED TO TAKE THIS LONG THE CALL SHOULD NOT BE OVERTURNED!!!!! oe: And it's not as things turn out but that should have taken 1/3 as long to decide.
  8. Yeah, the process on how he came up with "60% - 63% and mid-June" probably has a nice story behind it. Let's do another scenario: Syndergaard does get the MRI on his bicep which, because his new injury isn't in his arm almost certainly shows nothing, and then he goes pulls his lat after 1 inning anyway at which point we're bitching at the incompetent medical staff for "missing" the injury as if we know for a fact that the scans had some pre-injury indicator just sitting there lit up like strobe light for all to see. Pitchers (and non-pitchers) get hurt folks, and it's usually not preventable.
  9. Finally something *Literally* bounces our way!!
  10. Minus three real good catches by the Braves tonight -- Freeman, Inciarte, Phillips -- we'd be looking at double digits already.
  11. House was also known -- aside from being the guy who caught Aaron's 715th in the Atlanta bullpen -- of taking massive amounts of steroids. "Anything we could get our hands on" was I believe the way he put it in various post-career admissions. And back in those totally unregulated days when it was still the wild west of performance medicines, he and some of his teammates were taking stuff they wouldn't give to horses today. Not that that alone makes what he says wrong; he's stayed in the pitching game after his career working with all kinds of professionals and amateurs. On the other hand it's also true that after EVERY INJURY someone pipes up with an 'I told you so' (Mark Prior? ... Oh yeah, saw that one coming all along). Also if you predict that ANY pitcher is going to get hurt you've got a decent shot at being right.
  12. I mentioned this the other day, but our pitchers have been great at give-back innings this year, and by great I mean lousy. Give them some runs and they can't seem to put up a Zero in the next half-inning. And here we have Gsellman going 2-for-2 in give-backs so far tonight.
  13. A few, somewhat more specific, answers: "... rather than speculate when he'll be back, I think it's going to be a considerable amount of time," "It was my decision," [to alllow Syndergaard to pitch] "The MRI was not dismissed out of hand simply because Noah said he wouldn't do it. I sincerely believe that Noah felt that he was fine. There would be no reason for him to say otherwise." On the idea of looking for pitching from outside the organization: "Yes, this probably accelerates that process, but we have to be realistic about what may be out there,"
  14. "More a matter of weeks than days" -- Yeah, but are we talking two weeks or fifteen? "No connection between biceps tendinitis and lat tear" -- Agreed "No similarities to be drawn from Matz lat injury" -- Meaning this is much less or much worse? "I'm not a doctor" -- Glad we got that cleared up
  15. http://radsource.us/acute-musculotendinous-tears/ I read this just for kicks and I'm not sure whether to interpret "tendon avulsion" as something that always happens as part of a lat tear (i.e. we're royally screwed) or whether you can have a lat tear without an avulsed tendon, which means that with rest, physical therapy, and good luck, Thor might return to baseball activities other than spitting sunflower seeds in the next month or two (i.e. we're screwed, but maybe it's more just a peasant-type screwing than a royal screwing). From the link: The patient may be referred for shoulder MRI to rule out rotator cuff or labral pathology. Well it's good news that neither of these was mentioned. Those are more internal shoulder problems which, even though elbow injuries are the new black among hurlers these days (in large part due to strengthening programs for the shoulder, shoulders are a lot more complicated than elbows (which is essentially just a hinge) and have a much more precarious road to rehab. My one memory of mention of the 'Teres' muscle was from ex-pitcher (and kinesiologist) Mike Marshall griping about how no one who didn't know where the teres muscle is located or describe its function was qualified to be a pitching coach. I, personally, try to never avulse any of my tendons. That's all I got. Sandy apparently to speak at 4:00
  16. Centerfield wrote: How long was Matz out for his lat? Wasn't it like 2 months? I suspect the same for Noah. Sounds about right. So that puts us at around July 1st ... at which point you might as well wait until after the ASB so now we're up to Friday the 14th. But Noah's a big Game of Thrones fan which re-starts on Sunday the 17th so I'm calling it for that day now. Where can I get my bet down?
  17. KTE - METS @ BRAVES - MAY 1-4 Fasten your seatbelt folks as it’s the biggest battle in the state of Georgia since Sherman marched into the Confederacy: Two teams will enter the ring but only one will come out in fourth place. This will be our first trip to ‘Suntrust Park’ some 14 miles northwest of (not very) old Turner Field in Cobb County, Georgia right by the interchange of Interstates 75 & 285. Remember also that all home Braves game now start at 7:35 PM … which is kind of ironic in that one of the reasons they gave for leaving Atlanta for the suburbs was bad traffic in downtown Hot ‘Lanta, but now here they are changing their starting time to a half hour later than any other team in MLB due, at least in part, to concerns about traffic. And that was all before some guy decided to light a fire underneath a highway a few weeks back which wound up collapsing an overpass pretty close to the Braves’ new digs. So take mass transit if you’re going … oh wait, the only mass transit are buses and they have to take the same roads. Nevermind. Monday — Gsellman vs Teheran [2-1; 3.38; 1.40] Tuesday — Harvey vs Dickey [2-2; 3.80; 1.39] Wednesday — deGrom vs Colon [1-2; 5.59; 1.31] Thursday — Wheeler vs Garcia [1-1; 3.99; 1.33] As mentioned, this is a battle for 4th place as the Braves sit 1/2 game above us at the moment with the Phils & Marlins just a game atop of them so us finding ourselves anywhere from last to 2nd after this series is over are almost equally likely outcomes. The Braves have had a weird season so far: they lost 6 of 7 to start the year, they then won 5 straight, lost 6 straight, and then followed that up by winning 4 in a row before losing in Milwaukee on Sunday. RA Dickey is coming off being pulled early in his last start due to a “Quadriceps Spasm” Colon's numbers suddenly making him not so attractive in our replacement pitcher fantasies. Brandon Phillips was also injured in our last series with them but wasn't DL'd and is back starting. No one else of consequence on the Braves is injured ... I wonder what color the sky is in a world like that?
  18. batmagadanleadoff wrote: I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea that a player can refuse an MRI. But upon further thought, though, it makes sense. I mean, what the hell can you do? You can't ordinarily force an adult to receive medical treatment. Of course, MLB isn't an ordinary society and this could've been covered in the bargaining agreement. But even if MLB could force a player to undergo medical testing, how does a team handle something like this Thor incident where the player refuses testing? I guess the fringier or more expendable a player is, the more he risks being cut or suspended or some other meaningful penalty. But when it's a star like Syndergaard, what can you do other than to bench him? And if you bench him, for how long do you bench him if he continues to refuse an MRI? If he said he felt fine yesterday, he'll probably say he feels fine tomorrow and the day after, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. The first thing Ronnie said during the game yesterday when the whole topic came up (though prior to Noah walking off the mound with the injury) was that he wouldn't have agreed to the MRI either. As long as one feels fine, he reasoned, as Syndergaard instead he did, why give them the chance to find something they might not like, especially as it's often said that NO pitcher is going to have pristine pictures taken of their pitching wing? In the meantime, it's my turn to go so let's get out there and do this. One of the insta-columns on this subject said that Sandy needed to issue Noah an 'MRI or DL' ultimatum but there is a grievance process where players can fight that if they think they're being DL'd while not actually injured. Now maybe Noah takes that route and maybe he doesn't and, yes, there's definitely pecking order where stars will be more likely to take that route than would the marginal player with a more tenuous grip on his roster spot and minor league options still on the team's list of options.
  19. d'Kong76 wrote: As miserable as this game was on a couple of levels, at least it wasn't game 3 of a sweep. That would have been truly miserable. That's all I got. Yup! I'd much rather win two of three and lose the blowout rather than win big while losing twice. Blowouts are embarrassing while they're happening but if you're going to not pitch, not hit, and not field, you might as well suck at each all at once. Turn the page.
  20. ESPN just did another one of their in-inning interviews, y'know the ones where the game gets stuffed into a small box in the upper left-hand corner of the screen while Jessica talks to Addison Russell about his Pokemon collection. But at least it ended in time for viewers to see the final four pitches of the half-inning. They then started the next half-inning doing their seemingly mandatory in-game manager interview blocking out the first two pitches of the that AB. And the kicker here is that this is the Cubs at Fenway which they can't keep from telling us how great/historic/fun such a matchup is. If it's so great then why do you seem to doing as much as possible to prevent us from seeing it?
  21. We went through this same whining and moaning last year about Sandy leaving us with dregs like Gsellman and Lugo for replacement starters.
  22. Harper just fucked up Plawecki's ERA
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: 2-1/2 hours / 5 innings. This sport is committing (very) slow speed suicide. Yanx vs O's are approaching a four hour game and that one is only 4-2.
  24. Rockin' Doc wrote: According to MLB.com I am blacked out for all Washington Nationals & Baltimore Orioles game (whether home or away). As I mentioned the other day, the only way this should happen is if MASN is available via one or more of whatever cable providers are in your area. I think you said that it USED TO BE available but isn't anymore so you may still just be on some list saying it is. I'd try contacting them and explain that - particularly seeing as how these are all division games (Nats + Braves) which means you're paying full price for only 3/4 of a season (38 blackouts). That the Braves are blocked out is understandable since I assume you get (or could get) their home station 'Sports South' in your area, but they shouldn't be taking Nats (or O's) games away when you can't get them otherwise. The worst that can happen is they say 'No' and you're no worse off than you are now - but Zvon said it worked for him (with different teams) so it's worth a shot.
  25. Benjamin Grimm wrote: This is looking like the kind of game where a position player throws an inning or two. Ordinarily you'd look toward the last guy on the bench for that kind of duty, but that's Plawecky and he doesn't throw hard enough.
