  1. I like Wilmer at cleanup vs the lefty. I mean, why not?
  2. Mets were among the teams at last week's Doug Fister showcase With several teams needing starting help (now as it ever was) Fister* is expected to land a major league contract with one of them. * stop auto-changing it to 'Sister' spell-check robot!!!
  3. Yeah, one can almost see the ESPN copywriter trying to put together the headline Posey and the Giants travel to CitiField to face [crossout:xecjahn8]Cespedes[/crossout:xecjahn8], er [crossout:xecjahn8]Harvey[/crossout:xecjahn8], no, how 'bout [crossout:xecjahn8]Syndergaard[/crossout:xecjahn8], ummm [crossout:xecjahn8]Wright[/crossout:xecjahn8], Bruce. Yeah, that's it, Jay Bruce and the New York Mets. Last year's NL Wild Card teams looking to return to the post-season. Nah, scratch that last part too.
  4. Yeah, looking at Moore's last 7 starts: -- three times he's gone 7 or 8 innings while holding the oppo side to just 1 run each time and on 3 or fewer hits (vs ARZ once and LAD twice) -- but then in the other four he gave up 9, 6, 5, and 6 runs while twice getting pulled in the 6th and twice lasting 4 innings or less So my definitive conclusion is: he might be good tonight and then again he might not.
  5. Yeah THAT was the weird part of this whole story to me: when exactly did Paul Freakin' LoDuca get to pose as the consummate insider? I mean, aside for when the topic involves horses or teenage girls.
  6. Yanx finally won it, 18 innings and six hours later. By the time all the double-switching and so on was done, the Cubs wound up with no position players left and the pitcher's slot batting behind Rizzo. So the Yanx just simply kept IW'ing Rizzo -- in the 14th, the 16th and finally the 18th -- even when it meant putting the tying run on with two outs and none on, or in the 18th after Bryant walked and it pushed the tying run to 2nd with two outs. In each case the pitcher (sometimes a pitcher PH'ing for another pitcher) K'd to end the inning or game. The game featured a record 48 combined strike outs. Fuck you, Cubs! Maybe a few less commercials and a bit more hitting and you wouldn't get swept to fall to just a game over .500
  7. 1) the Phils came back against the Nats pen with 3 in the 8th to tie (off Grace and Albers) and another in the 10th to win (off Treinen) It kills the Nats' 4-game winning streak and leaves us no further back than where we started the weekend 2) the Cubs scored three times off Chapman and the Yanx pen to tie it up with 2 outs in the 9th Of course they still need to NOT blow this in extras (Zobrist grounded out w/bases loaded with a chance to win it in regulation) or they'll get swept at home and officially suck bhmc. They were the ones blowing it late on Friday and then got blown out on Saturday
  8. bmfc1 wrote: ESPN advertised it as "Buster Posey and the Giants visit Jay Bruce and the Mets". Advertising the stars is pretty much S.O.P. for networks, especially in this case as they know most Met & Giant fans are going to be catching the game via their local station so ESPN pimps out the best known names in an attempt to lure in the general purpose baseball fan. It's BRADY VS PEYTON and, by the way, the Patriots are playing the Colts And, hey, it could be worse, they're already advertising next week's Sunday Night game as the Jeter number retirement party. That there might also be a game played that night and that the Astros, the AL's best team this season, are going to be part of it might go unmentioned the entire night. In fact, I'm predicting that the only mention of Houston or of any of its players over the next week will be during height comparisons between Aaron Judge and Jose Altuve.
  9. Man what a mess this team is: - the worst record in all of baseball record at 11-21 and are coming off a three-game pasting in Cincy over the weekend by a combined score of 31-5 [13-3, 14-2, 4-0] - Dead last in RS/G in NL; 3rd worst in RA/G (we’re 2nd worst, btw) Posey’s hitting and 2B Joe Panik is hitting but that's about it. SS Crawford is out on a rehab assignment although could return for this series. CF Denard Span is out which has caused a lot of shifting and mixing including them using Seven different starting LF’ers so far. Even nominal 1B Brandon Belt has been putting in time out there plus they’ve had a cameo by former Met Justin Ruggiano. Drew Stubbs is on this team but his fall off the cliff continues: after hitting 80 HRs between 2009 and 2014, he’s been on six different teams since the beginning of 2015 and is hitting .196 with 8 total HRs Other one-time power threat Mike Morse is too but, between his .176 BA and they fact that his glove is so bad, he’s the guy they won’t even try in LF. And of course we won’t be seeing Mr. Bumgarner for a while as he appears to be even too stupid to be on our staff [see: bike, dirt = crash]. Pence, now 34 y/o, has been mediocre at best: .254 w/2 HRs Their big off-season signing was closer Mark Melacon who promptly blew the save on opening day, though has saved 5 of 6 since. But only 7 save opps in 31 games wasn't exactly the game plan for big spending on a closer. Mon - 7:10 Matt Moore [1-4; 6.75; 1.56] vs deGrom The lefty Moore was a one-time hot prospect for Tampa, but his breakout 2013 season was followed by TJ Surgery and he's been only so-so since and a bit less than that even since the Giants traded for him in mid-season 2016 for their stretch drive Tues - 7:10 Jeff Samardzija [0-4; 5.03; 1.14] vs Wheeler Samaradzija got off to a lousy start this season as he continues to confound teams with the gap between his promise and his results, but is coming off two good starts in a row [15 IP, 2 ER, 7 Hits] Wed - 1:10 **DAY GAME ALERT** Matt Cain vs Montero? …. Harvey ??? ... Stay Tuned!! Cain, who hasn’t had a good season since 2012, started well this year but just got smoked in the opener of the Cincy series [9 runs on 10 hits in 3.1 innings]
  10. Better idea than Mat Latos who was recently DFA'd by Toronto He had some decent seasons a few years back too, but not lately and, besides, he's a dick with far too many dicky tattoos.
  11. There was a danger of the game ending in under 2:40 and that's not allowed under today's rules so the change was mandated by the offices on Park Avenue.
  12. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Gotta say, except for maybe running, everything Dom Smith does looks pretty effortless. Baseball looks natural and easy for him. The tiny bit I/we saw of him in spring training showed that too, particularly on defense. Watching TJ Rivera at 1B this week shows him, and usually us, holding his breath with every throw in the dirt; he's made all the plays but you worry about the outcome until the out call is made. Smith looked like he makes tough scoops while doing intricate footwork in his sleep.
  13. Gary & Ron discussing this topic as an ad hoc trivia quiz.
  14. Edgy MD wrote: Giancarlo not wearing the jaw-guard piece anymore. I liked him better with it on. He doesn't always wear it vs LHPs -- although just as I type this he's not wearing it against Sewald either.
  15. Meanwhile ... we're being no-hit thru 4
  16. So other than Giancarlo Stanton, Mrs. Wilk, how was the game?
  17. d'Kong76 wrote: Why is Wilk referred to as dirtbag? Because he likes the Grateful Dead?

Also spent 2013 with the NC Dinos in the KBO
  19. I first just saw a HARVEY SUSPENDED banner on the crawl as I flicked past ESPN. Being ESPN they weren't actually talking about it of course (there are meaningless basketball games to analyze ad nauseum) but there it was and my immediate reaction was either PEDs or JCL's long-predicted cocaine bust come true, and once you've got those options in your head the details of this one actually qualify as good news. I'd hate to think that the team would get this upset about a dildo strategically placed in Plawecki's locker -- like there's a sports locker room without something not suitable for public viewing floating around somewhere!! -- if that's what it indeed turns out to be. On the other hand I haven't got any other guesses.
  20. Three days without pay for "violating team rules" ESPN: Mets general manager Sandy Alderson would not disclose Harvey's infraction, only saying that he was sent home. Left-hander Adam Wilk replaces Harvey as the Mets' starter Sunday against the Marlins.
  21. Damaged diving (unsuccessfully) for a ball for those not watching. X-rays say: Not broken MRI tomorrow to check for soft tissue (ligament) damage. I'd be shocked if there's NOT significant damage -- neither Darryl back in '85 nor Ronnie in '87 looked nearly that bad when they fucked up their thumbs. Darryl did his on May 11 and didn't play again until June 28. Ronnie's was in September which ended his season. At the very least I think Cabrera's hitch-hiking days are on hold for a while. So let the speculation begin on the replacement. - My immediate thought is Flores to 3rd, Reyes to SS with Reynolds and call-up Cecchini to back up, with one of them going back when Duda returns (late next week?) - That Reyes is hitting now argues against Rosario as this allows Reyes to go back to SS where he supposedly feels more comfortable. I don't think they're against bringing up Rosario on any kind of principle (Sandy said as much during his in-game chat) but I think if they're going to bring him up it'll be to play more or less full time and at SS
  22. Unlike the other day in Atlanta, this looks on the maps more like a passing line than the start of a 24 hour downpour.
  23. Gavin Cecchini to the white phone ... Gavin Cecchini
