  1. 'How many times do you see it, where the guy who makes a great tag to end the inning leads off the next half?'
  2. In the meantime, the odds of this game ending prior to 2 AM EDT are dropping rapidly.
  3. This game is like a blueprint for Noah's whole season: pitches get fouled off forever, but not swung through, until one finally goes fair and finds a hole somewhere. And then if there are runners on the whole situation gets even worse. It's obvious that he's missing that killer slider but there also seems to be a degree of bad luck involved. Aside from the pop-ups/high-flies tonight, I think every ball they've hit tonight (except for maybe one right at Conforto) has found some grass and whether those balls are hit hard or not seems irrelevant.
  4. Would have been nice if Hecchavarria had still been on base to score via Syndergaard's hit. Not sure that his 'suicide run' towards 3rd was necessary, particularly with only one out, but I suppose that after Monday night's running debacles, he just wanted to make sure.
  5. Be nice if we could snag this one, whether because of Syndy or despite him, cuz the matchup for tomorrow sure doesn't favor our cause.
  6. Ducky Schofield, btw, still alive at age 84 as he approaches 48 years since his MLB days ended (final game = Sep of '71) Not only do few ML players get to see their grandkids play in the sport but he got to see his have a 15 year career and then retire. Helps when you become a grand-dad at the age of 44. J Werth turned 40 last week. Dick is 56
  7. Edgy MD wrote: One of the three-generation families remaining does not link all three in a direct line. Player One is the father of Player Two. Player Three is the grandson of Player One and the nephew of Player Two. To broaden the mix a little, Player Three is also the stepson of a major leaguer. That would be the Schofield/Werth tree. John Richard 'Ducky' Schofield is the father of (brief NYM) Richard Craig 'Dick' Schofield who is the uncle of Jayson Werth who in turn is the step-son of Dennis Werth Dennis Werth played briefly for the Yanx in the early '80s although I have ZERO memory of him. I assume this means that Werth was the son of of Dick's sister. Not sure who his biological father was but I always got a kick out of the fact that Ducky & Dick were listed at 5'9"/163, and 5'10"/175 (and people wonder why HRs are up these days!!) while sis's kid topped out at 6'5"/235 ... and that doesn't even include the hair.
  8. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: THoUghTS on ThE GAmE!!! The top of the 7th inning alone took 4 hours to play Yup! This was the epitome of one of those games where things were actually sailing ahead of schedule (aka: sub-3:00 pace) as both pitchers had single-digit pitch innings ... and then the 7th inning arrives and the brakes get slammed on. Result = 3:22 Next year's proposed rule changes on minimum batters faced (although I still suspect this is far from a certainty to happen) would have re-done this inning substantially. But, in general, I'm dubious about putting limits on strategy (banning shifts, etc.). Better would just be to speed up the pitching changes by banning additional warmup pitches after arriving on the field. That change alone would have knocked at least three minutes of nothing but dead time off that half-inning.
  9. Yeah, go make another pitching change Roberts.
  10. The bunt worked. But if I saw a guy bunt with the (lack of) form that Rosario showed, I'd never let him bunt.
  11. Yanx lost their game vs SDP today on a call reversal for the final out when Brett Gardener was at first ruled Safe on a GiDP attempt but replay showed he was out. Until that point I was so sure the Sandy Eggo was going to blow the game (their first four hitters of the game scored and they led 5-1 but just held on to win 5-4) especially when in the 7th inning the Yanx, with runners on 1st & 2nd, hit four consecutive ground balls which the Pads turned into exactly ONE out and three runs.
  12. Two out walks in front of Bellinger = Not good idea
  13. Haistons: Gen1 = Sam; Gen 2 = Jerry Sr. & John; Gen 3 = Jerry Jr. & Scott Scott was tasked with destroying whatever LHP faced the Mets one season Boones: Gen 1 = Ray; Gen 2 = Bob; Gen 3 = Aaron & Bret Bells: Gen 1 = Gus; Gen 2 = Buddy; Gen 3 = David As the 30th ranked player in the 120-loss 1962 season, Gus consistently holds down the final slot (currently #701) in the CPF Rankings Project.
  14. Other father/son baseball news could happen early next week. Bobby Witt -- RHP, MLB 1986 - 2001; 142 wins w/ the Rangers, A's, Marlins, Rangers again, Cards, Devil Rays, Indians, and Diamondbacks -- was the 3rd overall draft pick in the loaded* 1985 draft. But by next week he could be the lowest draft pick in his own family as Bobby Jr., a a high school SS from Texas, is widely expected to go 2nd overall to the Royals. Some are using terms like 'best SS prospect since Alex Rodriguez' to describe him. Currently, the Grieves: Tom, 6th overall in 1968, and Ben, 2nd in 1994 have honors as the highest drafted F/S combo. * BJ Suhrhoff (1st); Will Clark (2); Witt (3); Barry Larkin (4); Barry Bonds (6); Pete Incaviglia (8); Walt Weiss (11); Gregg Jefferies (20); Rafael Palmiero (22); Randy Johnson (2nd round - 36th) Failing to ever make the majors from that 1st round were picks 5, 9, 13, 16, 21, 24, 25, & 28 That's right, the guy picked just one slot prior to Bonds -- a HS catcher by the ChiSox -- got only briefly to AAA and wound up .243/.306/.325 (23 HRs) in just over 2,000 minor league PA
  15. Well, Alonso didn't get throw out at 3rd so, y'know, there's that. Taylor pulled a 'Steve Finley' on that one; he stubbed his shoulders trying to jump.
  16. ANNNNND, it was the fear of Bellinger's arm which kept Nido on 3rd on Rosario's hit in the prior AB. Even with slow runners, it's rare to see a runner NOT score from 2nd when the corner OF has to move sideways to field the hit.
  17. Four perfect throws -- two by Bellinger plus the two-person relay from LF -- have really screwed up this game. And maybe only Gomez's try for 3rd was a 'bad send', and even then one could argue that the throw from Bellinger, possibly allowing the tying run to get to 2nd, was the even worse idea. Then toss in a GiDP by Lagares and we've made LAD pitchers retire just 20 batters to get through 8 innings.
  18. You gotta be kidding me!!!!!
  19. Well now this is starting to get interesting. Now all we have to do is rake the shit out of Kenley
  20. Six batters faced by the bullpen, one retired.
  21. Well this all went to shit quickly.
  22. Don't see either. Maybe the early start time doesn't fit in with their holiday plans.
  23. The question asked when the first time it happened. If you're looking for the most recent prior to tonight, you have to go way back ... to deGrom's last start when he was matched with Scherzer.
  24. That at'em ball by Seager to Conforto is maybe the first break that's gone our way tonight.
  25. =41Forever post_id=11257 time=1559003394 user_id=69] I like the Memorial Day patches.
