  1. My end of first game rant still applies, but at least I feel a bit better right now.
  2. And suddenly, not only is Vargas thru the sixth but he's there with a reasonable pitch count (93 -- 90 would be considered average/good) And a sizable chunk of those pitches came in the 3rd
  3. Nice inning from Vargas. Finally got some at'em balls. I think the 5th is his last inning, if he even finishes it.
  4. Make their errors hurt and shove that stadium design up their asses at the same time!!!!
  5. That's three consecutive grounders hit w/forced runners all around but only one out turned. Not the fault of the defense this time, just bad placement. oe: and now FOUR consecutive. Do these fuckers EVER hit anything at a fielder except for slow dinky shit?!?!
  6. Despite his buck-and-a-half (or whatever) ERA over his last five starts, Vargas can not be allowed to blow this lead.
  7. Might one say that that soft liner by Ramos left Urshela undressed? https://timeentertainment.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/50-bond-ursula-andress-bikini-25.jpg?w=260>
  8. So does that 1st inning Alonso HR make Paxton 'The Big Sap'?
  9. What a deflating piece-o-shit game that was: the blown lead, the bad defense, the ridiculous rate of 2-out hits allowed, HRs to marginal players - all w/runners on of course, the lack of 2-out hitting on the other side, and the just sheer lack-of-luck in that every MFY hit that wasn't hit hard fell in anyway (just beyond McNeil, just in front of Davis, just beyond Conforto). The whole scenario where we (Frazier) get a runner on 2nd via an infield error w/no outs and leave him there, and then they get a runner on 2nd via a two-out error (against Frazier) this time and score a bushel just sums up the afternoon. There must be a way to estimate just exactly how much our staff's horrid ability to close out both batters and innings is costing us. Even before you get into the 'hidden runs' caused by increased pitch counts, early bullpen trips, etc., if this staff were to hold the opposition to a BAA/OBA/SLG-w/RiSP at a clip that merely matched their already sub-par batting-against for the season it would shirley shave multiple runs allowed (a dozen?, two dozen?, more?) off that side of the ledger. Certainly we'd be an over-.500 club which, in this division at the moment, means touching distance to 1st place. Instead, our BAA-A w/RiSP is the worst in MLB so now each hit, each walk, each error, and each play not made!! winds up hurting just that much more. That this was all on display this afternoon in the fucking Bronx against a pieced-together lineup which is doing the very opposite in those situations (not just today but the whole fucking season!!), just makes you want to hurl again. And you know this is going to get spun as: 'Well the Yanx don't play that way' even though they were every bit as awful in the field today (and have more errors on the season) but simply got more, and more timely, hits.
  10. =bmfc1 post_id=12613 time=1560208745 user_id=73] They can add a dude for a split doubleheader so who will it be? I'd say a third catcher (so they can pinch run for Ramos) but there aren't any other catchers on the 40-man.
  11. Willets Point wrote: He posted a photo earlier in the evening of kids going on go-carts ... While the other guy(s) went into the place to play Papi-Shot (What, too soon?!?) The initial reports I heard, via radio overnight, had him shot in the leg but those reports were notably shy on details. The latest story has the BoSox plane in the DR ready to whisk him to Boston for further treatment.
  12. Phils lost to the Reds today so that tightens the division up a bit: Mets = 5.0 out Braves came from behind to win in extras, Marlins lost (to the Braves) And the Nats, tied at 1-1 in the 8th, just went back-to-back-to-back-to-back [Kendrick (PH'ing for Strasburg) - Turner - Eaton - Rendon] in Sandy Eggo to all but put that game away
  13. Yanx had a 'bullpen game' today, going through seven pitchers (none from their rotation) before finally securing a 7-6, 10-inning, 3:56 slog of a win. They jumped out to a 5-0/2nd inning lead but then blew that one and later a 6-5 edge before eventually making a loser out of Cleveland's Ollie Perez. Indians won the first two games of the series. Not sure whether Aroldis Chapman's 22 pitches today -- and blown save [single, Error on Pick-off, Pop-up Bunt, Fly Out, E-6, K] -- will affect his availability for Monday's game. That today was only his 3rd game in the month of June (also on the 1st & 6th) means that, rather than counting on him being out, we'll just have to kick his butt instead.
  14. Good point. I'll bet every one of us has pretended to be Elton at some point in time. I never did, despite the similar wardrobes we both own. Besides, I was too busy pretending to be Cher at the time (Wait, did I just type that out loud?)
  15. Both Travis d'Arnaud (3rd of his season) and Kevin Palwecki (2nd) homered in games on Saturday, vs the Sawx & Yanx respectively. Though neither is hitting .200, considering that Travis was at .067 barely two weeks ago, his current .189 (.240 w/Tampa) looks positively robust. All 3 HRs have come in his last 7 ABs. Plawecki [.171/.263/.343 in 70 ABs] has started 22 of Cleveland's 64 games this year and has also become a much better fill-in pitcher since leaving Queens. His two mound appearances this season have both been 3-up/3-down situations, a lot better than his 4-run/5-hit/3-HR/3-inning stint as a Met back in 2017 So clearly he should strictly be used as a one-inning guy which means that maybe he'll start to be used in some higher-leverage situations soon.
  16. And there was much rejoicing Yay!
  17. And Ramos's hit gets by Blackmon and rolls towards the wall ... this could turn into a single!!!
  18. All in all, not a bad game from Matz six innings vs a good hitting team; six hits - all singles; three runs - two earned; 10 K; couple of walks, one of which was lead off which came back to bite him
  19. So, do you suppose the Mets and Girardi set up a perspective interview while he was in town?
  20. Rosario called out on a pitch that was closer to the on-deck batter than him.
  21. Rox get 2-out RBIs (4 of their 5 runs I believe), Mets get one-out GiDPs
  22. Edgy MD wrote: Frazier, I'm sorry you popped up, but come on and run. Except that that ball was either foul or an infield fly rule. He actually started out running then seemed to realize his situation part way down the line and shut things down.
