  1. So how many mentions is JIM BEAM going to get tonight? I think they're already north of 30
  2. =seawolf17 post_id=12236 time=1559847646 user_id=91] Does it matter, from a gameplay perspective?
  3. This forum has gone from discussing Bobby(V) and Syndy to discussing Bobby and Cindy
  4. =smg58 post_id=12181 time=1559826231 user_id=62] Will spend the second half of the season as the starting shortstop. And the team will be better off for it.
  5. Thoughts on the Strategy!!!! - Didn't AT ALL like Gomez pinch-[CROSSOUT]hitting[/CROSSOUT]bunting. I would have hit McNeil there and NOT bunted - but, even if Mickey was set on bunting, is Carlos really that much better at it? Not by the look of things he isn't and I'm not sure, at this stage of his career, that he's any faster than McNeil either. hell, if you want to bunt I'd have put up Matz or JdG And, yeah, if Carlos picks up that ball right away (and/or starts running first and asking questions later) he probably beats the throw to 1st - Then I didn't particularly like McNeil PH'ing for Rosario, although it was slightly more justifiable once he had already made the previous move And it looked like it would REALLY blow up in his face until JMcN dunked that one in. - Now once you're at that point I was OK with JDD for Dom vs the LHP-specialist. Didn't work although I was still OK with it and he hit it hard. After that, of course, everything came up roses. - Would have been a nice sweep had Lugo & Gsellman not combined for their worst tag-team outing probably since joining the team. - Good to see a clean -- dare I say dominant? -- inning by Familia
  6. Maybe the author meant to say that the NYM defense is hysterically bad ... although I'm rarely laughing. What the eyeball test tells me is that, while we don't seem to have many iron-handed klutzes out there (Rosario's one stretch aside), as a group they also seem to steal very few outs. Even the injuries-forced upgrade to supposedly good-gloved CF'ers -- Lagares, Broxton, Gomez -- has resulted in very few hits-into-outs to balance out the occasional outs-into-hits and/or the '50/50' type of plays which this squad appears to make at a well under 50% clip.
  7. =G-Fafif post_id=12138 time=1559784074 user_id=55] Hecha-boom Hecha-boom Don't ya just love it?
  8. So who here had '7-inning shutout' after Vargas gives up a leadoff double to the first hitter of the game?
  9. =Fman99 post_id=12135 time=1559783458 user_id=86] Fact: Trevor Gott's toddler child is enrolled at my wife's day care center.
  10. My Gott!! Trevor Gott, now in the game for SFG, is no apparent relation to Jim Gott who pitched for 14 ML seasons including (very briefly) for the Giants.
  11. So-called 'Notable' picks (acc to MLB.com) from some of the later rounds: 21st round = Branden Fryman, a SS from Samford (note the lack of a 't') Notable in that he's the son of 13 yr vet Travis 24th: Hunter Barco, LHP, The Bolles School in FLA His draft stock took a hit due to a shoulder separation and he was shut down in advance of the draft. "When he's at his best, however, the 6' 4" lefty Gators recruit can run his heater up to 94 mph and execute both a slider and a changeup while working from a deceptive arm slot." 25th: Joseph Charles, RHP, TNXL Academy (FLA) 'A UNC commit Charles (ranked No. 181) is up to 96-97 mph consistently with his fastball, and there could be more in the tank with some tweaks to his somewhat violent delivery. His power stuff, delivery and lack of command lead some to peg the right-hander as a future reliever.' 27th: Dalton Fowler, LHP, Northwest Mississippi CC 'Fowler (ranked No. 150) backed out of a commitment to Mississippi, and he will return to Northwest Mississippi CC for his sophomore season if he doesn't turn pro. While his velocity tends to fluctuate, the southpaw is still growing into his lanky 6-foot-5 frame and could sit in the mid-90s with a solid three-pitch mix once he's fully developed.'
  12. =G-Fafif post_id=12129 time=1559781763 user_id=55] Cano ... left with a limp.

  15. Hi, I'm Robinson Cano and I hit weak grounders.
  16. Yanx take the same route as Mets w/3rd pick Matthew Allen by hoping/ignoring plans for college ball by drafting Jack Leiter. He's destined for Vanderbilt acc to family but Yanx take him anyway in the 20th round Can either or both be lured by 1st round money? Yanx are in the better position on this one as only the bonus dollars given to top 10 round choices count against the total pool. If the Mets go 'over slot' to get Allen (and they'll have to) then that money has to come out of somewhere/someone else -- hence those college seniors drafted in rounds 4 thru 10 with less bargaining power -- and it can't just be by opting not to sign one or two guys as bonuses set aside for players not signed is simply lost.
  17. So the trend continues to climb following the only sustained "good" period of games 21 thru 40 Not surprisingly, most of the recent carnage is on the pen while the starters continue their (meh) pace. 18. But as Ralph used to point out when Sammy Sosa broke one of his HRs/month records*: 'Yeah but he did it with a 162-game schedule'. * As per Gary talking about Josh Bell breaking Ralph's Pitt record for TBs in a month
  19. Do these fuckers EVER hit a ball AT anyone?!?!!? RiSP: SFG = 6/13; NYM = 0/5
  20. Come-backers turn into doubles.
  21. btw, Not that it was a slam dunk, but I thought Alonso had time to go for the 3-3-6 DP rather than opt for the safer force.
  22. Not quite sure why a pitching change needed to be made NOW!!!! Did anyone see when Nats mgr Davey Martinez came out to (presumably) remove Scherzer in the middle of an inning and Scherzer started screaming NO!!!! as soon as he stepped out of the dugout? Impossible to know whether Martinez intended to remove him or not, but Scherzer wound up staying in the game.
