  1. OK, NOW it can rain!! If fact, seeing as how Diaz is coming in, I wish it would.
  2. C'mon guys, we're still seven runs from Diaz-proofing this game.
  3. That was a shallow throw from LF. Not many runners score from there.

  6. This Parker guy hasn't thrown a strike yet!
  7. And some red hot Sam Haggerty action!!

  9. That was a nice run by Brach (with a double thrown in)
  10. So right as GKR were talking about the need for NYM pitchers to go 7, and with 2-outs and no one on and on the verge of having a quick inning, Matz gives up two straight doubles and can't even finish the 6th. And then as they added that there are really only two relievers out there whom Mickey can trust, the AB of the game (bags loaded/2-out) falls to Brad Brach and his 6.03 ERA (5.63 as a Met)
  11. 109 pitches (essentially what should be 7-1/3 IP) is far too many for not even getting through the 6th (5-2/3) Although, in fairness to Matz, he got a bunch of shit hits against him. Even two of the three XBHs (both of Segura's doubles) were cheapies.
  12. If there's a replay review in this game, I'm assuming the 1st Base ump DJ Reyburn and Home Plate ump CB Bucknor will likely be on the headphones to Chelsea. After all, both have had a ton of practice using microphones. And I'll give myself another 20 minute ban for that one
  13. Rain scheduled to begin on 10PM, that'll be approximately 2h 50m into the game. For most of baseball's history, most games would be over by that point. These days there's barely a 1-in-4 chance that a given game will be. It would be nice to get this one in.
  14. I think Little League should stay away from naming their teams after MLB clubs for this very reason ... My son's little league never had MLB teams. Since he started, they've always had animal names (Cobras, Jaguars, Ravens etc.) Particularly because you have to pay royalties for those ML names/logos/colors. Any LL outfit that wants to be ML teams for the 'status' it gives them but then complains to be in a money crunch gets no sympathy from me. Suck it up, give them all different colored t-shirts, and call them something un-copyrighted. My LL never had ML team names and it never occurred to me that they should. The different age/skill levels (I think there were six) each had a theme: one would be all animal names, another was birds, one Indian tribes (prolly couldn't get away with that one now) and no one ever felt cheated that those weren't "real" teams. I remember being a Beaver and a Comanche ... and there were at least two others although I'll be damned if I can think of any right now.

  16. Some red hot Thursday afternoon action is just winding up. -- Reds walk-off the Phillies in the bottom of the 11th (HR - Phillip Ervin) Phils won the first two games of that mid-week series but Reds came back to split the four. And while this matters somewhat less after Sept 1st, that the Phils used 8 relievers on the eve of a series with us is never a bad thing. Too bad it didn't go 19 with the same result. -- Cards thumping the Giants. 10-0 last I looked. They'll wind up taking 3 of 4 in that series -- And Trout just hit his 45th HR to tie Alonso for the ML lead. -- Thursday night sees the start of two four-game series important to us. Nats @ Braves Cubs @ Brewers

  18. I think we should just skip deGrom starts. We never win on his day anyway.
  19. Win Tuesday's game and that's 5 of 6 from Philly & Washington and everyone's feeling good about it. Instead, we're still down about the whole week and are going to be here 20 years from now as old men (or even older men) cursing about the time we blew that 6-run 9th inning lead during a pennant race to the Nationals (before they left for Portland). Oh well.
  20. Howie: "Justin Wilson coming in to a non-save situation" Well, it may not be a "save" situation, but that doesn't mean it's not a save situation. After last night, we most definitely need saving.
  21. Four run lead, 9th inning, our 'Win Pct' is up to 21% Get the leadoff hitter and it'll jump to 23%
  22. ML debut as a pinch-runner ... and he [Haggerty] goes 1st to 3rd on a single that most likely would have seen Frazier stop at 2nd
  23. What I remember about the Snow HR is that that was the one place you can hit a cheap HR in that park. It was a high pop-up right down the line which fell right on the metal 'roof' in the RF corner 309 feet away.
  24. So limiting Lugo to just 10 pitches last night turned out to have a positive effect in today's game as he gives us two scoreless. So, y'know, there's that.
