  1. I'm asking if it was laid out in the pricing he was shown when he signed up for 2019 season tickets before actually paying anything. The article didn't specify ... BUT 1) I highly doubt that when he paid for his 2019 season tickets (probably over a year ago) that the agreement to buy included a clause concerning a $92 'Fuck You Fee' to be assessed IF the team made the playoffs in 2019 and IF the buyer wanted a crack at those playoff tickets but also wouldn't pre-commit to re-upping for a plan still two seasons away at that point. AND 2) that that's a good business practice even if they DID jam that disclaimer somewhere into the fine print This guy obviously doesn't think it is and sees it more as them figuring out a way of getting extra cash from those who won't agree to give them the extra cash via next year's hefty price increase. So they've "won" in that they're getting his $92 but they've also driven a lifetime fan and season ticket buyer away from their stadium, he says for good.
  2. The Mets have had just four run-scoring hits in this entire series Game 1: JDD's 2nd inning solo HR off Kershaw ... then nothing else until a Rosario single plates a run but only after they were down by 8 Game 2: Rajai's bases-clearing 3-ribby double Game 3: Nimmo 2-run triple
  3. In addition to the bullpen problems, if McNeil & Alonso aren't going to hit we're going to be in trouble on that front as well.
  4. You don't know what was being said in the dugout (Mickey said deGrom was spent after 7 last night) but I would leave Wheeler in for the 8th. 97 pitches is on the light side for 7 innings (105 is about the norm). But, sooner or later, this team is going to need important outings from Diaz and/or Familia. Yeah you don't want to, but if it's one of them vs one of the back-end guys ...

  6. Edgy MD wrote: The Phils will phade. They're phaking it with their pitching staff. Also, their next 11 games are at Atlanta (3) then at Cleveland (3) then at Washington (5 in 4 days) Following a week-plus like that, the fact that they end the season at home with 3 vs the Marlins is of little consolation.
  7. Even if we continue to win, sooner or later somebody is going to have to do us some favors. -- Cubs won again today; 4 wins in a row, 8-6 in September -- Nats win; only 6-8 in Sept (they went into a mini-tailspin following their 7-run/9th inning win vs us) but have now won four of their last seven -- Brewers also won today; 11-3 in September -- at least the Phils managed to lose today; 7-7 now this month -- the DBacks are the only ones really playing their way out of contention; they came into our series on a roll but have now lost 6 of 7 (four to us then twice this weekend to Cincy)

  10. Those kinds of fees are tacked on all the time -- on-line tickets have been known to carry a 'printing fee' even though they didn't print shit -- and are essentially just a way of charging more without raising the base price of the ticket itself. It would be much more honest just to up the price of the ticket and have it be all inclusive but ticket sellers obviously think that type of bait- and-switch is effective at attracting customers who are then reluctant to back out once they've made the commitment. The apparent difference here is that they're specifically charging some customers a different price from others as a penalty for not re-upping tickets plans for next season. Or, as this guy put it, first they gouge you (40% price increase over two years) and then they screw you on top of that. And keep in mind that this $92 'service charge' could apply to as little as two games.
  11. Edgy MD wrote: Anybody else briefly worry that Nimmo was going to get called back after his HbP, as he did twice last season, for not doing enough to dodge the pitch? The two times Brandon got flagged for that last year were more a case of purposely and pretty obviously moving into the pitch rather than simply not doing enough to get out of the way. One, IIRC, was pretty damn blatant; the other one less so but still a lot more than last night. I think it's a move that players get away with too often -- particularly in the elbow pad era -- and wouldn't mind seeing umps call it more, but even then I didn't think last night's qualified.
  12. was the $92 fee mentioned upfront when he bought this year's tickets? -- seeing as how he had to call the ticket office after the fact to find out what the charge was for, the charge was apparently neither mentioned upfront nor explained on the bill if so, quit whining! -- not sure putting a 'Because we feel like it' line on the bill makes it A-OK to charge you more than others for the exact same product or service The blue plate special today is $9.95, unless of course you don't also agree to come back for dinner next week and pre-pay for that meal now in which case we're charging you $12.95
  13. So we've now gone 5-1 since I said we'd need to go no worse than 16-4, leaving an 11-3 path in front of us. That's only a slightly smaller winning pct than 16-4 but LAD games represent now only 1/14 of the remainder (rather than 3/20 or 15%) while Marlin games (I know) jump to 4/14 or 28.5% (up from 20%) Still might not matter if the teams in front of us win a few of their own (Cubs won again today, Brewers are winning) but all they can do is take care of our end and, for a week now, they've been doing just that.
  14. I was just adding my postscript as you replied.
  15. If he PH's Conforto there it sets up two straight LHBs (Conforto then Nimmo) and Roberts simply goes to Urias a batter earlier. Still a debatable (non) move, but I understand his thinking. oe: and of course it would weaken the defense.
  16. It's not quite on a par with his WS HR, but it's a close second for me.
  17. While I appreciate the monopoly/drug dealer angles, it's the vindictive nature of the 'Fuck You if you won't renew' aspect of it that's the really dick move here. We're charging you more than we're charging the guy sitting next to you as a punishment for not giving us enough future money. The guy, btw, has vowed never to go to the stadium again after this. He'll watch, and he'll travel to see them elsewhere, but he's done handing over his cash. https://nypost.com/2019/09/14/yankees-fans-are-pissed-about-ticket-price-hikes-its-insulting/https://nypost.com/2019/09/14/yankees-fans-are-pissed-about-ticket-price-hikes-its-insulting/
  18. Now let's go pound us some Dodger relievin'
  19. Jake's got a pitch count that should allow him to get at least into the 8th tonight.
  20. So apparently the Yanqui front office are savages as well. A 'lifetime fan' with a partial (41-games, upper tank) season ticket plan for years decided to give up his season tickets for next year on account of the 40% rise in price over two seasons (2018 to 2020). But it was the bill for this year's playoff tickets which really got him mad. A $92 surcharge was tacked onto his bill and when he inquired about it with the ticket office he was told it was, in effect, a penalty for not renewing his plan. The surcharge was some 8% of the total but since I'm presuming you're required to pre-pay for all potential playoff games, any shortfall in the number of games, either by quick wins or by (heh, heh) early elimination would effectively ramp up the size of the bite the surcharge takes since the unused tickets would be refunded but not the penalty. Or maybe they've banned refunds also and will force him to buy tickets for next year in order to make up the difference.
  21. I was watching that one during that inning. And while I can understand why Snickers Bar was mad, I'm not so sure he was correct. The problem is that, if you're bunting, you don't have to make a forward move with the bat to have it called a strike, the simple absence of a backward move can be construed as 'having offered at it'. Culberson's only move really was to put the bat in front of his face hoping to deflect it, but the ball missed the bat completely. Tough way to take 'Strike One' in an AB, but the HP ump shouldn't be altering the rules in order to express sympathy.

  23. And yet another 3-1/2 hour game in a season full of them.
  24. If I were the replay umps I'd have turned down that challenge even if the evidence showed otherwise, just to reward Bellinger for the hustle and to punish Lockett for his laziness.
  25. Howie doesn't even do hockey anymore so I'm not sure why he'd be talking about the Caps.
