  1. Even just tying this up now puts us in a better position in an extra inning bullpen battle
  2. OK, here we go. I like our chances here: Beltran, Delgado, wright & Alou against Wickman
  3. These throws keep hitting Delgado in a bad spot ... his glove.
  4. Now we're going to see the "good" Brave pen. The way they've got things set-up now is kinda like the Yanx did for years where they had their good guys and their 'well, we're behind by a lot so let's save the real ones' troop. Last night we saw the latter, now we'll see the former: Gonzalez, Soriano, Wickman
  5. Sure it was a 2-out, 2-strike, come-from-behind, walk-off Grand Slam ... but we all know that it was the Jeter walk two slots earlier which was the [u:99ac5bd7fc]real[/u:99ac5bd7fc] clutch at-bat. I wonder if, after Giambi's 3R HR and ARod's GS, Yanx fans are still going to be calling for more 'small ball' from Torre?
  6. Perez - 4.8 Reyes - 2.5 LoDuca - 1.2 Wright - 0.4 Alou - 0.8 Green - 0.3
  7. btw, That 3:55 time for Saturday is actual first pitch time for the game. This game will be the national TV game (for most of the country anyway) on FOX network and they've moved their GotW from the early afternoon (EDT) slot to the later one this year and chose the unusual 3:55 time in an attempt to get more of them finished by 7PM and not screw up the affiliates' Saturday night schedule.
  8. Wow, fans acting up in Philly! Whoda thunk it ... particularly from the same city where the old stadium had an in-house court & judge in order to handle the caseload?
  9. ]I remember that it was Channel 17 because of the "nickname" of CHANNEL that Andy Messersmith, I think, wore on his back above his uniform number 17 as a promotional stunt dreamed up by Ted TurnerA stunt which Bowie Kuhn slam-dunked real fast. Turner originally bought the Braves as a way to provide programming for his station back when buying a middling sports franchise was relatively cheap. The team is probably now worth more than the station which has gone from living off of Gomer Pyle, Mayberry & Leave it to Beaver reruns to living off of Seinfeld, Cheers & Home Improvement reruns.
  10. Yeah, you & Neil are correct; it's post-season starting this year and the Sunday GotW starting next.
  11. ]N'Awlins is Ron Swoboda's hometown like my ass chews gum Been his home for a long time now ... and leave your dietary habits out of this.

If your system still carries TBS would they start blacking out all the games? What's happening is that, in addition to the post-season games which TBS will carry (starting NEXT season, not this one) they'll also be carrying a Sunday afternoon GotW. I don't think it'll be an exclusive package like FOX has on Saturdays, just an addition to whatever local games you get. I'll miss the Braves games if they do go away. Not that I watched them every night, but I liked the fact that they were there when I did have the time, particularly during times when we were fighting them for pennants. I also never minded their announcers. Yeah they used "we" too often in ways that we New Yorkers like to think our announcers are above. But they never (IMO) tried to tell you that black was white if things weren't going well for the Braves and were always respectful of the game and the opponent. IOW, they may have occasionally been homers but were never really biased.

Some teams are already spoken for, others need picking up. If you volunteered for a team once I put you with them again, but those follow ups usually involve very little work.
  15. I didn't see the game but I flicked by while the intro was going on in time to hear long-time Zephyr color-man Ron Swoboda saying about his hometown team being the affiliate of his long-time ML squad; 'if I were any more excited I'd have to be wearing a diaper'
  16. ]Elijah Dukes* just hit a laser beam HR and TB leads 5-4 and threatening. What a fuckin' shot that was! This kid hit two HRs off NYY pitching in two games: one into "the black" in dead CF and yesterday's liner that looked like a line-drive single that simply never came down until it was 4 rows deep in the LF seats. Dukes is one of the DRay's seemingly endless supply of talented kids behaving badly crew. He's been suspended by the team more than once for various on & off field transgressions which puts him in good company with: Joey Hamilton (#1 overall pick - drugs ... now w/Cincy), Delmon Young (#1 overall pick - bat throwing suspensions and org-bashing tantrums) & BJ Upton (#2 overall pick - mild insubordination and bitching). So if all these guys can keep themselves out of both the doghouse & the slammer Tampa's going to have themselves an interesting crew. AND they've got the #1 overall pick again this year. Now if only they could pitch. - 6 Yanqui Errors in 2 games ... 3 by Jeter. - GW 9th inning HR by Piazza off of Francisco (K Rod) Rodriguez. His first as an ALer. - Not such a good night for Roberto Hernandez, coughing up a bases-loaded "walk-off" HBP in Chicago
  17. Leave it to the Yanquis to play a 4-hour game in the cold & snow. So their fans both froze AND went home tired and unhappy.
  18. Once. Cleveland was part of a one at a time succession, Foli wasn't.
  19. John Maine is the only pitcher in MLB history who's last name is a State...I bet Dice-man can't say that.
  20. Opening night tonight. Will be televised on SNY Humber to start
  21. Infield prospect-turned outfield prospect-turned infielder Kelly Johnson hits a 2R HR for Atlanta. Lead Philly 4-1 in the 5th looking for the sweep. Chuck James v Adam Eaton
  22. Yancy Street Gang wrote: I only found out last year that Derek Jeter was black. He must qualify under that "one drop of blood" clause. Yancy obviously never watches Yanqui games where Jeter's parents (during those games when they're in attendance) are shown on TV about every 12 seconds.
  23. Fans (accurately) bemoan the lack of complete games but often (inaccuarately) believe that it's a recent phenomenom: Pct of complete games: 1890 - 86% 1900 - 65 1910 - 62 1920 - 57 1930 - 48 1940 - 44 1950 - 40 1960 - 30 1970 - 24 1980 - 16 1990 - 10 2000 - 5
