  1. I wouldn't PH there based just on not wanting to miss that situation. There's already 2 outs, it's only a 1-run defecit, and you've still got 4 more cracks at it. If it's the 6th inning then maybe, beyond that almost definitely.
  2. So if your name is Zimmerman and you have a son ... how tempted are you to name him Robert Dylan Zimmerman?
  3. Pelfrey strolls up to the plate to Asia's [u:191e1a6cb6]Heat of the Moment[/u:191e1a6cb6]
  4. Pelfrey doesn't miss too many bats.
  5. * As expected, Pelfrey is up and Milledge down * Juan Padilla, 13 months removed from Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery, is about to undergo surgery again. It's on the same elbow (right), with the same prognosis (out for the year). Padilla, who threw one inning in a Spring Training game on March 11, and he experienced pain the following day, will undergo surgery on Friday to repair a tear in the flexor tendon. * Duaner Sanchez underwent surgery to repair a bone in his shoulder on Tuesday.
  6. Edgy DC wrote: It'll be interesting to see if anything comes out of the deal for Abreu and Lidle. They almost certainly won't get anything resembling equal value seeing as how it was a pure salary dump. - Matt Smith is a LH reliever who has had a handful of decent ML innings so far but is already about to turn 28. - C.J. Henry is a college reliever who was a high draft pick about 2 years back and would probably be considered the "prize" in the whole deal - and the other two were strictly throw-ins as far as I know: Carlos Monastrios & Jesus Sanchez I never quite got why the Phils felt they "had" to make that deal. It was like they decided to do something since they couldn't deal Burrell. Just another example of the bad karma Dickshot was talking about that's been keeping them down in recent years.

  8. From what I've seen of both his SNL & movie career (admittedly not a lot) he always strikes me as a talented guy who spends much of his time in search of better material.
  9. Well Green was ranked lower than LoDuca because we (whoever chose to participate) ranked him that way. The final results showed Green to be the 21st best Met in 2006 while LoDuca was 6th best and their relative playing time was certainly a big factor in determining that. So, IOW, no. Green doesn't get his final score further altered based on his shorter NYM season because the score he received already reflects it. * and I just became Ed Lynch
  10. And HAD a babe in your arms when he started pitching in the majors
  11. Jaime Moyer - b. November 18, 1962, Sellersville, PA MLB debut - 6/16/86
  12. Reyes - 2.1 Glavine - 2.1 Wright - 1.5 Smith - 0.6 Schoenweis - 0.6 Wagner - 0.5 Alou - 2.1 Beltran - 0.5

  14. Good that Glavine is getting some wins early here, if only that it takes the drama out of getting his 10 wins and lessens the chances that #300 will become an issue.
  15. Nationals Win!!! Beat the Braves 2-0. Atlanta loads the bases in the 9th but can't score. This was the [u:173296342d]first lead[/u:173296342d] that the Nats held all year as their only previous win had come via a tie-breaking walk-off hit.
  16. Of course if you decide to bunt you wouldn't pull a hitter in favor of Glavine (or any pitcher) since your express purpose of "saving" a bat wouldn't work here since you're wasting one by PHing in the first place. If a pitcher is at bat I suppose you could PH for him with Glavine if the situation called for a bunt and you were planning on replacing said pitcher anyway ... but I'm not sure you'd gain much of an advantage. That Glavine "is the most successful bunter in history" is as much a function of his longevity than it is to great skill at bunting. He handles the bat well but, unless the guy he's replacing is inept, the upgrade is probably marginal.
  17. ]Did Lastings get sent down?No word of it. Probably after the game though. Poor guy barely got an AB. Easley gets his first start In honor of Glavine & Moyer starting tonight, they're setting aside the radar gun for timing pitches in favor of one of those sand timers. They thought about using a sun dial but the weather didn't cooperate.
  18. Reyes - 1.8 Sele - 2.1 Feliciano - 0.5 Smith - 0.9
  19. OHernandez - 4.0 Green - 1.0 Castro - 1.0
  20. - The 5th consecutive Yanqui starter fails to finish the 5th inning - Torre actually brought Pettitte in for an inning of relief in Sunday's game - Matsui on the 15-day DL with a strained hammy
  21. Well yeah. Having high percentages of your runners as LOBs is generally a temporary situation rather than a chronic one. All it means in this case is that we were in good position to win either of the two we lost but wound up winning neither for want of a timely hit here or there. The Braves, on the other hand, are 5-1 with 4 of those 5 wins being close ones that could have gone either way. They won't be able to keep up that kind of tap dancing all year.
  22. 31 Met LOBs for this series. We out-hit and out-scored Los Bravos this week (largely on account of that first game obviously) but needed a few clutch hits here and there for games 2 & 3 but didn't get them. Multiple culprits were involved. * I just became #70 Jim Hickman
  23. Loduca - 1.0 Beltran - 0.4 Delgado - 0.4 Green - 1.2 Glavine 1.0 Smith - 1.0 Schoenweis - 1.0
  24. Isn't everyone?
  25. Our current "standard" starting eight lineup has a career total of 1,667 HRs. Not that most of them were hit as Mets, but still, I'd venture a guess that that's a total that couldn't be touched in NYM history even by the likes of the mid-80s crew or a Mays-led 1973 lineup. Reyes - 34 LoDuca - 71 Beltran - 205 Delgado - 407 Wright - 67 Alou - 319 Green - 318 Valentin - 246 ======== 1,667 btw, has anyone else noticed that Baseball-Reference.com now has up-to-date stats for the current season? Used to be that they did nothing until the season was over and even that frequently took them month or two to add. More recently they had the new stats up in just a few weeks but now ...
