    An article in The Athletic today about how the banning of the shift did NOT bring the base hit back. I didn't dive into it but it shows that sometimes the result of what you think you're going to get isn't always the case.

    Puck drops at 9:40 tonight, ugh! We do get a break tomorrow, though, as it's a FOX game so sked for 7:15 EDT Then after tonight there are just four west coast late starts left in the season: MON/TUE June 1 & 2 in Seattle followed by FRI/SAT later that same week in Sandy Eggo. Between this road trip and that one we actually get a road stint that doesn't cross multiple time zones [Nats and Marlins May 18-24]

    Just spitballin' here, but getting six hits (5 singles) and going 1/9 w/RiSP while issuing seven walks doesn't seem like a winning formula anywhere but particularly not in Coors. Running out of both mound visits and ABS challenges before the 6th inning was out didn't help neither.

    You're probably morphing together him and Billy Wagner; two smallish, hard-throwing relievers with great primes mostly for NL teams before spending their later years on a series of short stints with multiple clubs including, eventually, the Mets.

    I agree. The LF was getting rid of the ball about the time Benge was reaching 3rd. Now it was lousy throw but, of course, you don't know that at the time ... and now he winds up scoring anyway!!

    Alvarez manages to avoid hitting into a GiDP in a potential GiDP situation!!!

    > 2-1/2 hours just to get thru 5 innings ... and although that's a lot quicker than it would be for the pre-speed-up rules, this one is not exactly sailing along, especially for a low scoring game.

    The intent is to keep owners, who may have various incentives at a particular time to Not want to win, from being the one calling the shots on the field. Not that they can't do so remotely but at least there it's a level or two removed from the dugout rather than in it. Of course the number of teams in the NBA openly and purposely tanking may have been in double digits this season and few of their fans seem to mind. I mean, why there were more than 10 fans at any given Washington Wizards game over the last three seasons is a mystery to me, but I don't seem to get basketball culture in general.

    Lorenzen skunked us on 1 run/7 hits over 7 innings two weeks ago in NY where the Mets scored their only run off him via a GiDP (cuz that's how we roll) in an eventual 4-3 Rox win. Time for some payback ... or at least maybe an XBH or three. Mets had 11 hits in that game: 10 singles and one double, plus zero walks and three GiDPs!!.

    Just to keep everyone up to speed on first pitch times: - Monday was the day game which was supposed to be a night game - Tuesday was an off day which was also supposed to be a night game - Wednesday is a night game (9:20) which was originally supposed to be a day game - and Thursday will be a day game (3:10) in what was supposed to be an off/travel day And when you've digested all that we'll move along to differential calculus

    The rain-to-snow is expected to last until around noon (MDT) on Wednesday with temps right around freezing and a 12 mph north wind, hence the altered start time. By scheduled first pitch (6PM MDT) the temps will have rocketed into the 40s (OK, 40 even) with even a little sun and calmer winds. For the finale Thursday temps should be in the 60 - 65 range and partly cloudy.
