  2. Exactly! [u:2it90dyi]UN[/u:2it90dyi]injured Yanx often don't show up to All-Star Games (or WBCs for that matter) and now we have to start making room for their injured ones on the idea that they somehow would have deserved it had they not been hurt. No way Jose.
  3. I'm skeptical about Ike hitting major league pitching.
  4. This is the first, and now,as I type, second, end-of-inning lead we've had in this series. Now all we have to master is that situation where you have the lead at the point where the game actually ends. I think they call that a WIN but it's been so long that I can't quite remember.
  5. First walk of the season for Hawkins, first walk of the night for Marcum ... and BOTH of them score.
  6. I really wish we'd make these muthafuckas earn their runs.

  8. 2 innings pitched: Miller = 45 pitches Marcum = 17 pitches Take your victories where you can find them.
  9. I was wondering how the Yanx could be succeeding despite the extended absence of Jeter but then I remembered: he's on the bench, so merely his proximity to the others makes them better players.
  10. But then Buck, after a good AB, screws up his base-running which manages to: 1) kill a potential run-scoring inning 2) prevents the team from clearing the pitcher's spot in the lineup 3) and stops the run-up of pitches for Shelby Miller
  11. vtmet wrote: sometimes I wonder if the players, etc that make these unwritten baseball etiquette rules have ever watched football, basketball or hockey...what offends some of these veteran players is so vanilla compared to the shit that you see for celebrations in other sports or how guys just barely drafted out of college are immediately the most important player on a team in one of these other sports... I remember seeing the a young (probably even rookie) Deion Sanders, then w/the Falcons, intercept a pass late in the 4th quarter and going preening and high-stepping his way into the end-zone like some Dancing with the Star contestant to make the score 35-7 .... AGAINST Atlanta. I remember thinking that I'd want to kill him if I were his teammate. Except that his teammates supposedly loved the guy everywhere he went and didn't bat an eye at what many of us would consider stupid foolishness. Different sport, different cultures.

And now that I've seen it again...I still don't see what was so gol'dang unusual about it. Yeah, a little extra mustard, a disturbing trend, call Phil Mushnick, whatever. But did he high-five himself? Dance a jig? They were losing by a bunch...they're always losing by a bunch. I thought the same. So did I. I was surprised at the fuss Gary & Ron made over the whole thing. Ideal behavior? No. Criminal? Hardly.
  13. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Have you seen the video? It's a pretty nasty hit for an extraneous one. Oh it was nasty all right. But it was just kind of weird in that he had ceased going for the ball by that point and somehow didn't see THE GIANT WALL COMPLETELY COVERED WITH NEON LIGHTS THAT WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM. Appears not to know much about the purpose of that whole warning track thingie either.
  14. Whoever gets bumped should be placed into long relief/emergency starter status. That serves double duty of allowing them to actually jettison one or more of the under-achieving current relievers.
  15. Hey Gary & Ron: Do you two Ivy Leaguers ever hear some of the stuff Keith says and just shake your head and say: "Geez what an idiot" ?
  16. How would one even know if a 20 year old millionaire ballplayer became disoriented? Other than the possible concussion and the 11 stitches needed to close the wound on his chin, I think the worst injury Harper sustained on that play was that he sprained his haircut.
  17. That whole thing was weird. Harper had already given up on actually catching the ball but kept running as if the idea that a wall was near never occurred to him. That nausea is often one of the side effects of a concussion, this insistence that he doesn't have one seems premature at best.
  18. Ceetar wrote: the only real interaction Terry has with the 'fans' is what the media tells him we're supposedly thinking. This is what JCL was getting at above. Terry's biggest crime in this whole deal was not phrasing himself very well. Fighting the fans is ALWAYS a losing proposition (calling Lee Elia) and just the fact that he made it appear that that's what he's doing puts him in a bad light even if by "fans" he meant: all you folks out there who think you know everything that goes on here.
  19. You beat me to it, I was going to suggest the Yanx as I knew they've grown almost none of their own pitching in recent years/decades. Pettitte, Hughes, Joba come to mind - and the one who went away and came back to scarf up the 4 wins has got to be Leiter, right? The rest are probably relievers who happened to scarf up a win by being the pitcher of record during a mop-up appearance in a handful of games when Yanqui bats suddenly cranked out six consecutive HRs in the 8th inning.
  20. vtmet wrote: LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: I would probably pay decent money for a "Hurl Shitty Questions At The Manager! Make Him Break!" booth in the center field pavilion. Has Francessa ever really given Terry a hard time in an interview? I could imagine that idiot could make him snap... Not so much a hard time, but what you have to remember about Francesa interviews is that they don't involve questions so much as they consist of the interviewER telling the interviewEE how much he knows about the subject matter so as to hopefully set up an answer of; "you're so right Mike". And you can see how THAT can leave the impression where the fans (or, by extension, The FAN) think they can run a ballclub as well as the insiders.
  21. metsguyinmichigan wrote: Oh man, if we get stuck with the alternate cover here in Michigan, I'm gonna be pissed! I'm betting that you are. In fact I suspect that the Harvey cover is the real "alternate" that's being sold mainly in the NY area while most of the rest of the country gets the hoops cover so as to not piss them off with what seem to them as another story about an NYC-hyped athlete and because it fits in well with the theory that no one wants to read about baseball unless it's local. Everyone else, though, just can't get enough Memphis Grizzlies news. What's really kind of surprising is that SI feels the need to go with regional covers when you'd think that most of their (dwindling) buys these days are through subscriptions, but I guess every little bit counts.
  22. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Rob Carson. I don't get him. What don't you like about 6 HRs allowed in 8.1 IPs?
  23. Carson tried for the leadoff walk but failed.
  24. Which all means that if we could have gotten just ONE FUCKIN' SCORELESS INNING from the pen (out of one inning pitched) this would be an interesting game right now. But it's not.
  25. And who woulda thought that walking the 8 & 9 hitters on 9 pitches to lead off an inning would come back to bite you?
