  5. L J Mazzilli appearing on BA's list right at the mid-point of their Top-500 list, right above the name of Mike (grandson) Yastrzemski Highest legacy pick I've found is Houston area HS 1Bman Cavan Biggio at #67 Teddy Stankiewicz, currently hurling for Seminole State (OK) JuCo, is seeded at #77, just two picks below where he was picked last year Top-500
  6. The Yanqui fan in the kilt ruins the whole shot.

The Wilpons don't care, but he would be literally stealing from veterans. I'm just amazed that the Yanx agreed to participate in what was obviously an MLB-wide charity/marketing event for Memorial Day. Usually they simply dismiss anything that wasn't their own idea, may seem to tarnish their beloved pinstripes, or that makes it seem like they're in cooperation with those other lesser clubs who aren't really in their league.

  9. smg58 wrote: Does Ike still have options, or would he have to be placed on waivers? I'm almost positive he still has options. Certainly folks keep talking about it as if he does - and folks who actually know what they're talking about, like Gary C and others who you would think would have brought up the subject of waivers if that were an issue.

He's at .293/.335/.455 // .790 (which is also right in line with his career numbers of .293/.339/.430 // 769) Still not bad, but not quite whoever you're quoting above. The small number of walks perplexes me. Yeah he's an aggressive hitter, but not one given to constantly going out of the strike-zone. I guess what happens he that he doesn't swing and miss that often so that, when he goes after the ball, it generally gets put into play,

  12. With the usual caveat that 'Mock Draft' = 'Very Slightly Educated Guess', I saw a mock that had the thought-to-be untouchable Clint Fraizer falling to #11 I'm sure the Mets would be happy if that happened as would Justin Turner since it would give him another red-head to play with. Must be all kinds of tough social problems for him being the only RH minority on his team. btw, Mayo on mlb.com doesn't rank Renfroe until 28th in his Top-100 so yaneverknow. Mayo on Renfroe: Scouting Grades* (present/future): Hit: 3/5 | Power: 4/5 | Run: 5/5 | Arm: 6/6 | Field: 4/5 | Overall: 4/5 Raw and toolsy, Renfroe has developed considerably in his three years at Mississippi State. While there's still some swing and miss to his game, he's progressed tremendously at the plate. The more consistent of a hitter he can become, the more he can tap into his outstanding raw power. He's a good runner who's even better underway, and he has a cannon for an arm. He's strong and physical and might very well fit the profile for a right fielder at the highest level. The team that believes Renfroe will hit enough will be the one to take him in the early stages of the Draft.
  13. Marcum - 3.4 Hawkins - 0.3 Parnell - 0.6 Duda - 2.2 Davis - 1.7 Turner - 0.8 Buck - 1.0
  14. Burke - 1.0 Tejada - 2.0
  15. Gained a game on the entire division tonight (Hey, I'll take my wins where I can get them) plus the entire AL East gained a game on the Yanx. That's like dectuptle happiness!!
  16. Yanx just called up something named David Huff (claimed off waivers from Cleveland) to give them a 3rd LHP in the pen for this series. I guess when he's this hot, no one pitcher can be expected to hold down Ike Davis. Ben Francisco, the one homeless, aging drifter they picked up this winter who is NOT going through some unexplained renaissance over the first two months (5 for 44), was dropped to make room. But other than Robertson & Rivera in the 8th & 9th, I'm almost totally clueless about who's coming out of their pen on a nightly basis these days or in what roles: David Phelps - although he's starting right now with Pettitte out Shawn Kelley - obviously a refugee from an old boxing movie side-winding lefty Boone Logan - refugee from a moon-shining movie Adam Warren (really?) Preston Clairborne - No, I didn't make this one up. I guess he's responsible for mixing the martinis out there (LHP) Vidal Nuno - who maybe styles hair for all the Latin players when not in use, I dunno
  17. That was a case of wishful thinking, as in wishing the Putz wasn't actually hurt. But that he had been hurt was the reason he was available which made him a more long-term solution hired to solve a short-term need. Putz was a good reliever prior to the Mets getting him and, for the most part, has been a good one since although he's hurt again at the moment leaving Heath Bell to take up the slack for Arizona.
  18. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Wagner was an incredible waste of money, and Omar showed how little he learned by giving an even stoopider contract to Roodriguez. Even when the Mets had money they were idiots with it. When the Rodriguez deal was made there were a lot of Met fans who thought it was great on account of they were clamoring for a deal on the order of 5/$75 - so when it came out at "only" 3/$40 (or whatever it wound up being) it seemed like a bargain to many. Speaking of closers, how ya like the week Jimmy Johnson's having in Baltimore? Guy hadn't blown a game since some time early last year; now he's crashed and burned in 4 of his last 6 outings giving up 12 runs in just 5 innings work over that time including blowing a 3-run lead yesterday. Prior to Sunday there hadn't been a 3-run/1-inning save blown all year; then yesterday there were two. Johnson was one, then in Fenway Chris Perez had a 3-run lead to protect for the seriously, I just used a racist word when I really meant "Guardians" then not only fell apart but got hurt in the process. With two runs already in and two more runners on base, he grabbed his arm in the middle of pitching to Jacoby Ellsbury. Unable to continue, the Tribe brought in ex-NYM Joe Smith to finish the AB ... and Ellsbury lined his first pitch into LCF for a 2-RBI game winner. So technically Smith gets the 'BS' even though the ugly work was done mostly by Perez who, by the looks of things, could be out for a while.
  19. Hefner - 2.8 Murphy - 2.5 Wright - 0.5 Tejada - 0.5 Duda - 0.5 Byrd - 1.0 Buck - 1.0 Parnell - 0.4
  20. Harvey - 1.5 Lyon - 0.6 Rice - 0.5 Ankiel - 3.0 Murphy - 2.5 Tejada - 1.5
  21. You are a sick, perverted, and disgusting person ... and I vote that you do all the KTEs for the remainder of the season.
  22. So if someone told you that one 1st-baseman was have the GW hit tonight and the other would have four K's, how would your bet have gone?
  23. 2-run/1-inning saves this season (for all MLB) = 88% successful
  24. If Baxter had gotten a seven foot bigger jump on that steal attempt ... then he would only have been out by three feet.
  25. WOW. One pitch earlier I'm thinking how sad it has gotten in that I was encouraged that Ike's swing and miss looked better than his usual ones.
