  1. Will be there as well making my ‘23 debut.
  2. To be fair, McNeil is hitting .256 joining Marte in the over-.250 club. But, yeah, it looks like Carrasco might be cooked and the bullpen worries me. That on top of a not-great offense is concerning. Ask again after the west coast trip.
  3. Swoboda.
  4. 1. What will The Mets' record be? 91-71 2. Where will The Mets finish in the NL East? 2ND 3. Will The Mets make the playoffs (yes/no)? YES 4. If so, A. 6. This is the last guaranteed year of Joey Votto's contract. Have to figure the Reds would take too much of a publicity hit in trading him now. Also, the Mets don't need him. I for one have no issues with us trading one of our blocked players like Ronny Mauricio for him.
  7. Luis has 4 career homers and 4 career steals. He is already a 4/4 guy. I predict he will not end 2023 as an 8/8 guy. .256/ .328/ .345/ .673. I think he's a 2/2 guy at most.
  8. Good news for David Peterson fans.
  9. I was at a party in 1992 aboard a yacht in Florida (never mind how I got there) and among the guests was the then-Senator from Florida Connie Mack III. The second Connie Mack was his son from his second marriage (Earle was from the first marriage) and he was also at the party - about 80 years old at the time. His father also hired him to work for the A's as a coach and he claimed to have the record as being the youngest major league coach but the players all hated him because he was younger than all of them, knew nothing and represented to them the cheapness of his dad. His coaching career did not last long. I didn't get a chance to quiz him more about his baseball past as we were part of a larger group that was mostly political in nature. He was very nice to my dad though.
  10. I do remember the rap on Lenny at the time was that he didn't hit lefthanders. Also, I remember Howard Johnson being all excited about Juan Samuel being on the team. Roger McDowell being in that trade as well made it all the more terrible.
  11. 6 teams per league make the playoffs. In the NL last year it was Mets, Braves, Phillies, Cardinals, Dodgers and Padres. Given this offseason it sure feels like those same 6 teams will be there next year. Hard to make a reasonable case for other teams to be there. The Brewers haven't improved nor the Giants. Maybe the Cubs a bit although they lost Contreras. The rest look like they have no shot at all.
  12. Watched it this evening and enjoyed it. Great performances and an ending that hints at more. I’ve been a Martin McDonaugh fan for a while. The plays The Beauty Queen of Leenane; The Lieutenant of Inishmore and Hangmen were all good as are the films In Bruges and 3 Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri plus this one. There are several more I haven’t seen but his work is always worth checking out.
  13. I saw him in either '82 or '83 when he was pitching for the Mariners against the A's. At that point he was long past his prime and was kind of a novelty act at 45. Still, he was a beast in the prime of his career.

  15. I was at that game in Philadelphia. Proud to be a Phisher Phanatic.
  16. We already have crowded third base options with Escobar and Batey. If one of them are dealt for another need then I might consider it.
  17. 6 outta 7 for me. Perfect til the last one.
  18. Padres. I'd rather lose to the NL champs than an also-ran.
  19. Ruf should've gotten his pitching points as a reliever.

  21. Been busy til now. What happened?
  22. Nellie Fox had 12 All-Star selections and 35 career homers. Just about the same ratio.
  23. We made a morning decision to go to the game, buying last-row tix at the park. Got there early to see the Star Spangled Banner guy mess up the lyrics and to see four (four!) ceremonial first pitches. They did the thing where kids set up at positions and Mets replace them for the first inning, Nimmo seemed to want to stay talking with the center field kid. Anyway, beautiful weather and delightful game.
  24. Have to figure that there will be a lot of plays against lefthanded batters with the third baseman in the shortstop position and the shortstop one step away from the second base bag.
  25. PNC Park is cashless. A beautiful stadium but terrible food. Pittsburgh is a nice city with good food. No ragging on Pittsburgh.
