  1. No we McCan't Can't. He re-signs with Chisox to play behind Yasmani Grandal.
  2. I love old movies and pretty much keep TCM on as the start-channel. OKJA was good but PARASITE, currently in theaters, is better.
  3. Obviously Alonso is this year's Met Rookie of the Year. Do we have a list of who the previous winners are?
  4. It was just okay. Saw it when it was released, haven't thought about it since.
  5. Got in on time entering in the right field entrance but lotta folks came in in the 3rd or 4th inning. It was kinda cold so happy for the crappy t-shirt. Game was terrible and too many Dodger fans. Mariska Hargetay came out to throw a first pitch and then some corporate guy came out to also throw a first pitch (second pitch?). Mariska's was much better thrown.
  6. When I was a coach we always named our own teams. Sometimes I came up with the names sometimes I let the kids come up with them. When I was in Little League we were just the name of the local sponsors. I was on Hilltop Toys my first year.
  7. Kevin Elster
  8. Bubba Trammell
  9. i was living in San Francisco in 1979. They were a pretty likable team back then. LeMaster not so much however.
  10. First IGT and first game attending this year. Gotta have it.
  11. Pretty much on board with both of these reviews. QT likes to use Brad Pitt to rewrite history.
  12. The Royals record is now 38. Mike Moustakas broke Balboni's mark in 2017. Jorge Soler already has 35 for this year's Royals so Moustakas' record is in jeopardy. Also, Marlins record is now 59. Giancarlo Stanton in 2017.
  13. Hugh Duffy Dyer
  14. I went to high school with his daughter. Their living felt like a shrine to him with a giant oil painting of him in uniform over the mantle. Never did meet him.
  15. i don't know much about the neighborhood. I was staying in the Loop and wanted to go there via their version of Citibike (Divvy). Thing is, Divvy only goes as far south as Grant Park (don't want the poor folks to have access I guess). I took it that far and thought about walking but not knowing the neighborhoods in-between I ended up taking the El the rest of the way and still didn't have time to linger so I guess it was good I caught the train. As I mentioned earlier, had an engagement that evening so I couldn't stick around afterward. Yes, still can't go down if you have an upper deck ticket - it was a big crowd so it looked like it was being enforced.
  16. Worst name for a stadium ever. Went to the Sox vs. Sox game last Sunday. Was 2-2 until the 8th when the visitors poured on 7 runs including a grand slam by Xander Bogaerts. I left after that as I had plans in the evening. The Cubs and Cards were playing that night and there were a lot of people in gear from those teams as well as Red Sox fans. I figure they were mainly outta towners who wanted a doubleheader. Looking down from my front row upper deck seat I counted four Mookie Betts shirts, only Jose Abreu had more. Forgettable park other than the fact that there are fireworks both when the game started and after a Chisock hits a home run (which they did twice for their only runs). I got a Chisox soccer jersey. If any of you want it, you can have it. Decent beer selection. Hot dog adequate, nothing more. Many retired numbers: 2, 3, 4, 9, 11, 14, 16, 19, 32 and 72. "Races" with people wearing big heads of ex-White Sox. Mark Buehrle was the winner over I forget, maybe Nellie Fox was one of them. Buehrle's number is not retired but apparently is going to be one day (56).
  17. Gio signs with Milwaukee.
  18. McNeill's knee banged up, available to pinch hit.
  19. I agree. Kind of incredible that they were able to get the shots they got. Strange guy - eats his food directly from a pan with a big-ass spatula.
  20. Pretty much agree with LWFS. Nyong'o is one of the great actresses of our time.
  21. All of those reports on the Yankees passing on Machado/Harper because Arenado/Harper are coming up soon -- HA.
  22. Saw it on a plane yesterday. Given that the surviving members of Queen were part of it, it seemed pretty clear that they had a bit of an agenda to make damn sure that everybody knows that they all wrote those songs and that they (and his sainted wife) were the ones who kept him on the right track. Two stars.
  23. I agree that it was a more watchable event than recent years. Delighted that Olivia Colman won. She's been great in everything I've seen her in. Haven't seen or want to see Green Book. From what I have seen I can't imagine it better than Roma, The Favourite or Black Panther.
