  1. That's a reasonable interpretation, G-Fafif... I don't think he was being that thoughtful but perhaps.
  2. This is the first game I've watched on YES (via mlb.tv) this year... I was surprised to hear two former Mets doing color: Leiter and Cone. Did they play for anybody else? The camera work on YES is excellent.
  3. Al Leiter: "It's definitely a Yankees town."
  4. For the first positive note of the day, great block by Brian Schneider. A noted Mets blogger has scoffed at Schneider's fielding prowess but that was a great play. And even Michael Kay said that it was a good call.
  5. Nice going Jose, swinging at another pitch out of the strike zone. Normally, Michael Kay spouting off about how you can't compare Reyes with Jeter would piss me off but not now.
  6. Where the F was Alou going? Beltran and Reyes K on balls at eye level, Alou gets picked off... they still have their heads up their rears.
  7. BA mocks the first round... and, in a surprise, has the Mets drafting Jason Castro, the guy that kept forgetting the lyrics on American Idol! http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/draft/mock-draft/2008/266117.html Wait, not that Jason Castro? Oh, this guy: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/events/draft_report/y2008/index.jsp?mc=castro http://gostanford.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/castro_jason00.html http://stanford.scout.com/a.z?s=18&p=8&c=1&nid=2830843 This season, he's started all 50 games, and is hitting .366 with 11 HR, 52 RBI and 4 SB. Throws righty, hits lefty, big guy.
  8. I bet they're seeing if ESPN wants the game for Sunday night, 6/29.
  9. Good name for a band: Expletive Shocker.
  10. From Adam Rubin's blog: Wagner rips teammates for ducking media That undercurrent of discontent over some Mets ducking the media boiled over after the game. As reporters spoke with Billy Wagner after the loss, first about the Yankees series, then about todays game, Wagner wondered aloud why the closer was drawing attention. Then he went Paul Lo Duca-esque, minus the racial component. He looked over toward the area of Carlos Delgados locker and blurted: Someone tell me why the (expletive) youre talking to the closer. I didnt even play. Theyre over there, not being interviewed. I got it. Theyre gone. (Expletive) shocker.
  11. The press goes to Wagner because they want him to say something inflammatory. He should have said "no comment." Or, "we gave it a good try, the boys tried hard, we'll get 'em next time." What he said was his version of "no comment."
  12. Sorry I didn't see your earlier post, BGrimm.
  13. The "wagons are circling" around Willie. If they continue on this pace for much longer, then he's gotta go. I hope not, and they go on and win the Series, but just in case... who is next? I'm asking for reasonable candidates. I'll start with: Ken Oberkfell, AAA manager Lee Mazzilli, only because Joe and Evan touted him on FAN (he did a bad job in Baltimore) Jerry Manuel. Long shots: Davey Johnson Wally Backman.
  14. Willie Harris being interview by Ed Coleman right now. When he entered the game, MASN showed a graphic which stated that he lead the league in appearances as a defensive replacement. I laughed because I never saw that stat before. Now we know why he was in the game.
  15. 3 out of 4 and 5 out of 7 against two sucky teams. If they get swept by the MFYs, maybe 2 out of 3, Willie's gone on Monday, or he should be.
  16. Nice description, Grimm, calling it "Swoboda-like."
  17. Earlier in the game, with 2 out, Castillo was on 1st and Wright hit a lazy fly ball to RF. It hung up for awhile, then Kearns dropped it. Castillo was shown trotting toward first and only started running as he approached third. DW didn't run either and only ended up on first. Beltran lined out to end in the inning.
  18. After the commercial, Howie says that Jose slowed down before 2nd so he said that if you're gonna do what Reyes did, you have to be at full speed.
  19. Howie & Wayne give praise to Guzman for getting the throw... but don't question the merits of the attempt. Between Castillo's lack of hustle on the dropped fly and Reyes' risky try, the Mets may lose this game because of baserunning.
  20. On MASN, some bimbo is interviewing the Nationals pitcher's HS coach... during this time--HR and double. Keep the interview going!
  21. Churchy for the All-Star Game!
  22. Thanks Damion.
