  1. Really, do the Mets ever get a call? Maybe we only remember the bad ones but that's two tonight.
  2. When was the last time the Mets got a call?
  3. Great job by whomever brings us the Extra Innings package. On Thursday, and again tonight, they are providing both the home and away feeds. I don't recall them ever providing more than one feed but they have extra room tonight with all the games already played.
  4. What a great baseball night! TMF and MGIM, thanks again. G'Night Gang.
  5. Thanks TMF and MGIM--when the games overlapped, I followed the Mets on my Blackberry. As happy as the boys were, I think the coach was happier.
  6. On top of this great comeback, my son's HS summer team won their first game of the season tonight, 15-5, to improve to a record of 1-14-2, with one game left.
  7. WOW! That was amazing.
  8. "Our Colosseum." F U Buck. Go watch The Bachlorette.
  9. At this point, we could give a crap about Uggla's father. What stupidity by FOX.
  10. Is this the worst 5 minutes in A-S history? A screw up on offense AND defense.
  11. F U UGGLA!
  12. Valadius wrote: Where's Luis Gonzalez when you need him? Good one, Vlad.
  13. Geez, can you sing faster Grobin. The game was moving along nice until you showed up.
  14. Keep hitting homeruns in NY, Matt.
  15. If there's anybody reading this thread who used to work for a publication devoted to the beverage industry: since Budweiser will soon be owned by a European company, will it still be able to call itself "The great American lager"?
  16. My son: "So why haven't the Yankees won since 2000." Love that kid.
  17. Eckersley was there. Bench was in NY (I heard him on FAN today) so I wonder why he wasn't introduced. The ceremony wasn't bad until Steinbrenner showed up. He had no business being there unless he was searching for a calzone.
  18. What the heck: 1) All-Star Game Winning Team: NL 2) All-Star Game MVP: D. Wright 3) Winning Pitcher: B. Lidge 4) Losing Pitcher: M. Rivera 5) Gets the first hit: C. Utley 6) Scores the first run: C. Utley 7) Makes the first error: D. Pedroia 8) Hits the first Home Run: A. Rodriguez 9) RHE linescore NL & AL: NL--5 12 0 AL--4 9 1 10) David Wright's box score line AB-R-H-RBI 2-0-1-2 11) Wagner's box score line: IP-H-R-ER-BB-K-HR 1-0-0-0-1-0
  19. Saturdays, 8 AM - 9 AM: Madonna teaches the tenets of Kabbalah. Special guest: Alex Rodriguez.

    Doh!

The Niekro interview was edited on wfan.com to omit the portion discussed above.
  21. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Or he can make the triumphant walk to the mound and blow the save by allowing a David Wright homer. Then Billy Wagner can come in and get the save. Perfection.
  22. Here's a good reason to root hard for the NL: so Rivera can't triumphantly take the mound for a save.
  23. I used to love the game because it was fun and didn't matter. Now, with something at stake, i.e. Mets home field advantage in the WS, I care, and I only want to care about the Mets. I don't want to root for Chipper Jones (despite the nice things he said about Shea and D-Wright in The Daily News today) or Chase Utley, but we have to. The game also begins too late (about 8:30) and probably won't end until around 12 which is too late for a non-Mets game. Finally, we have the egotistical Joe Buck at the mike and it has been established that he doesn't like watching baseball so I have trouble listening to someone that is being paid to watch something that he doesn't like when we love it and do it for nothing. And then there's the MFY and YS stuff. I'll watch, but if my wife wants me to switch to "My Boys", I'll do it. And if the Wolf's come over (hello, themetsfairy), forget it because that's when the fun starts.
  24. The Baseball Network was the entity that MLB held out for in exchange for returning the Extra Innings package to cable. Before the '07 season, MLB announced that EI was going to Direct TV on an exclusive basis. When fans (if that mattered to MLB), the cable industry, and some in the media, created a huge fuss, MLB said that it would restore EI on cable but only if the cable companies guaranteed placement on, at minimum, digital basic (i.e. not a digital sports tier) for the Baseball Network. The agreement was reached the day before the season began, thus ensuring wide distribution of the new channel. Even the NFL had to have been jealous because the NFL Network does not have the broad carriage that MLB's channel will have. If MLB was smarter, I would think that MLB had this all planned, and pulled EI from cable knowing that there would be a big outcry. However, it is MLB, where the home run derby lasts for 3 hours, so I'm sure that it was just a lucky coincidence for MLB.
