  1. Seemed like a good guy. Always a good interview. I liked that he took the time to be on the WFAN pre-game today even as he was packing (I guess he's used to packing quickly by now).
  2. Early in the game, Gary said something to the effect of "if they win today, then they play the Marlins who aren't as good as they were earlier in the year, and then they play Houston, so if they can get from 7 and a half to 5 games back by September 1st, anything is possible." You know what's not possible? Scoring 2 runs against Zach Duke. Also, it would be nice to have a manager that understands baseball as least as much as we do or any other idiot on Twitter because I checked the #mets Twitter feed and the masses were incredulous that Jerry didn't PR for Ike.
  3. PR for Ike. Use Castillo. If the game proceeds, he's in anyway for Tejada.
  4. Is there any greater evidence that Jerry is an idiot than right now?
  5. Justin Turner, possible September call-up, got hurt today (tweet from a Bisons beat writer): Turner has right knee injury. Didn't hear a pop. Maybe hyperextended. In pretty good pain.
  6. Frigging umpires have so little to do, get paid so much, and they suck.
  7. I love it when Jose is on 2d, the #2 hitter didn't move him over, so Jose gets to 3d on his own.
  8. It's true. [u:26fpzpss]New York Times[/u:26fpzpss], 08/22/10: "Mets Draft Class of 08 Shows Startling Promise" http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/22/sports/baseball/22metsdraft.html?_r=1
  9. Barajas claimed on waivers by LA. Welcome back Jesus Feliciano.
  10. Pirates: McCutchen CF, Tabata LF, Walker 2B, Jones 1B, Alvarez 3B, Doumit C, Milledge RF, Cedeno SS, Duke P
  11. Have a reliever pitch the first and then put Santana in to start the 2d.
  12. That's an eyebrow raiser from David!
  13. That's a good point about Carter. I didn't realize that he's out of options. Given that the Mets traded Wagner for him and another guy, and also saved a few million, instead of keeping Wagner and then taking the draft picks as compensation, they should see what he's got, too.
  14. I concur with Ceetar. I don't think much of F. Martinez, and I've gotten into it with some of you about that, but... at this point in the season, he should be playing everyday for the Mets so they can see if he's any good in the major leagues. We won't know that while he's in Buffalo because, try and follow this Jeff W. and Omar, that's not the major leagues. Francoeur won't be on the 2011 Mets so there is no point in playing him any longer. Same with Castillo and Barajas/Blanco, too. Right now, the '11 Mets OF will be Bay/Beltran/Pagan. But what if the next GM (he said hopefully) is offered something good for Beltran or Pagan. Can F. Martinez be an everyday player on the major league level? I haven't seen anything to tell me that the answer is "yes" but we won't learn anything about him while he's in the minors.
  15. "I think I'd rather see Fboy smoking meth than watching this drivel." "Maybe you should toss a bar of soap into that tippy pool of yours, you dirty hump." Brilliant. Remind me never to cross you.
  16. Come on Mets. Be like Coors and have a back bone and get some runs!
  17. Geez, take a full swing you overweight, overpaid, sack of shit.
  18. I'm happy that Hessman is still around but they could use a guy who can lead off the bottom of the 9th, down 1 (like that ever happens), and someone that can PR for Hessman, Carter, or one of the catchers. They also could use a backup MI rather than a guy that can barely play 2d--in other words, I'd rather see Turner up than Castillo... but you're right, as soon as Buffalo (red hot at the moment) is done, this issue is solved (I'm guessing that for position players, Turner, Evans, J. Feliciano, F. Martinez and maybe Santos--on the DL now--get called up).
  19. So most nights, the Mets bench is 2 catchers, and only Thole can play another position (1B); Hessman, a slow power hitter who plays 1B and 3B; Carter, a slow power hitter (hopefully) who plays 1B, LF, RF (and none of them well); and Castillo, a 2B only. No back-up SS, no one with speed to pinch-run, and no back-up CF.
  20. The biggest creditor of bankrupt Sponge Tech is, of course, the Mets who are owed almost $2.8 million dollars: http://www.cnbc.com/id/38772268
  21. Yes. He runs strangely.
  22. Igarashi recalled, not Green.
  23. Sean Green is supposed to fill the open roster spot.
