Edgy DC wrote: Pretty funny to go from the Marlins feed where they're opening veins in the tv booth to the Phillies feed where they're preserving the ambiguity of the call in the face of clear visual evidence. Awful job by Tom McCarthy. It's an obvious mistake but he couldn't even admit it. Chris Wheeler knew it.
  2. Great KTE. So good, that you should do them all for the rest of the year.
  3. I guess you have to credit MLB for not only putting the bad on their website, but highlighting it under "Must C: Controversial": http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2010_08_05_phimlb_flomlb_1&mode=wrap Another lousy call determines a game, yet there are no repercussions for the umpires.
  4. Paying someone too much money for too many years is the Wilpon M.O. Omar is the Castillo of GM's.
  5. Ceetar wrote: It's certainly growing increasingly likely that I won't be worrying about trying to get score updates during my 10/10 wedding. And David Wright WOULD able to RSVP yes.. You can now hire Mr. Met to entertain since he'll probably be available.
  6. Down 5, the reliever just walked Pagan in a long AB, the Mets need base runners, so Beltran swings at the 1st pitch. A fitting end to the evening.
  7. Snap! Well done!
  8. Late to the party, sans internet most of the night, but wow. It looked like a guy in a Francoeur Braves jersey got the ball!
  9. LWFS's 4th comment above is great.
  10. I enjoyed JCL's the most so far... but what about distance from Flushing?
  11. When I coached kids baseball, I never coached a "travel" team which had a good hitter at every spot in the lineup. I had to choose whether to space the bad hitters throughout the lineup or group the good and bad hitters. Jerry's grouped the good and bad hitters.
  12. Alphabetical order (w/o the SP--LaRussa would include the SP): Beltran Castillo Davis Francouer Pagan Reyes Thole Wright Dickey
  13. METS: Reyes-SS Pagan-LF Beltran-CF Wright-3B Davis-1B Thole-C Francoeur-RF Castillo-2B Dickey- RHP Everyone excited about 7 and 8 in the order? Cox: Infante 4 Heyward 9 L. Jones 5 McCann 2 Hinske 3 Gonzalez 6 Ankiel 8 Cabrera 7 Lowe 1
  14. I said at the deadline that Omar had to do something in order to show the team that that management believed in them (which didn't mean "Kazmir for Zambrano" but something). I didn't make that up, Keith said it in [u:2p2gs4wv]If At First.[/u:2p2gs4wv] Omar didn't improve the team while the Phillies clearly did and the players notice that which hurts the clubhouse. Having said that, I don't believe that Pagan tracks a fly ball slower or Castillo flubs a DP ball, etc., because the team is sad. While they are playing, instinct and ability takes over. When it hurts is when they fall behind and stop thinking that the team can rally and they stop expecting to win.
  15. Unless Kevin "Guys!" Burkhardt is going to take over, any replacement for Wayne would probably be another out-of-towner who we'd say doesn't get NY--which is what was said about McCarthy and the late Lorn Brown before it was said about Wayne. We're so spoiled by the greatness of Howie, and before that Gary and of course Bob Murphy, that everybody else pales when put by their side.
  16. Hagin's much better than McCarthy. I'll take the Mets #2 radio guy over the Phillies #1 TV guy.
  17. I'm just gonna throw this idea out there, and I know it may be perceived as heartless, but at this point is there any reason to give ABs to Francoeur? We know what he is and we know that he won't be a Met in '11 so how about calling up Evans? Since being promoted to AAA, he's 8 for 16 w/7 RBI. While Bay is out, once and for all we should get an idea if Evans is going to be part of a Mets future. Francoeur won't so let's see what Evans' got.
  18. METS: Reyes-SS Pagan-LF Beltran-CF Wright-3B Davis-1B Francoeur-RF Blanco-C Castillo-2B Santana-P Cox: Infante 2B Heyward RF L. Jones 3B Diaz LF Gonzalez SS Glaus 1B Ankiel CF Ross C Hudson P
  19. Davey is a consultant for the Nationals. Why couldn't the Mets hire him? I'm sure his knowledge would be an asset, especially with his connections to USA Baseball.
  20. Good points on Thole. So far, so good and let the experts be damned. He can platoon next year with whomever Omar signs in February.
  21. The commercial for the Billy Joel movie screams "The Biggest Outdoor Movie Premier Since 1919." First, who's keeping that stat? The MPAA? Second, is there someone out there watching who says "I didn't plan on going but dammit this is history!"
