  1. deleted. redundant.
  2. Sandy said that the Mets lost $70 million last season. How is this possible? You own a) a baseball team in New York City. This isn't a baseball team in Paris or a Roller Derby team in New York. This is New York baseball! And they own a television network that shows the games. How incompetent are the Wilpons?

Nymr83 wrote: If Reyes had gotten away as a baseball decision ("he's always hurt, so we wont go past 4 years") it would be another story, but lets face it, this was all about Freddie Coupon who lost his money to Uncle Bernie and wants to take ours at the same ridiculous prices he charged when he was spending twice as much on the product on the field. The Mets, from everything I've seen, never made a real offer... go fuck yourself Wilpom, I wont be at Citifield next year. At all. Yes. They never even made an offer. Not even a mediocre offer to appease us. Didn't even try to keep one of the most popular players in team history. One of the best players in baseball. The Wilpons can go F themselves.
  4. I think I'm gonna cry.
  5. Good stuff from Mets Merized: http://metsmerizedonline.com/2011/12/the-sad-and-abominable-state-of-mets-catching.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MetsMerizedOnline-GetMetsmerized-NewYorkMets+%28Mets+Merized+Online%29
  6. Larkin, Morris, Murphy, Raines, Trammell.
  7. The last two managers who lead the Mets to the World Series are employed by other teams while the Mets are managed by Terry "Bunty" Collins. I have manager-envy.
  8. Thole may be the nicest guy around but he doesn't do anything well. He is weak at catching a baseball which is an important part of being a catcher. His arm isn't great. He has little power. Maybe he "runs well for a catcher." If he could hit .300, then we could have the making of a Jason Kendall-like player but he hasn't shown that ability. In other words, I'm not a fan. As for next year, Sandy will say he's looking around and then decide to spend some of their limited resources elsewhere which means a Thole-Nickeas combination. I hope that they trade for a big-time catching prospect soon.
  9. Lots of fun. A smart script with clever songs (by Ken McKenzie of Flight of the Conchords). Well worth seeing.
  10. Murray Chass does not recommend that the Red Sox hire Bobby V.: http://www.murraychass.com/?p=4056
  11. Joe Nathan to the Texas Rangers. seawolf17 weeps.
  12. If this realignment meant that every team would play the same IL schedule, I'd be all for it. However, I have no doubt that Selig, and perhaps the Wilpons, will still want the fiction of extra games against the rival opponent (fiction, because not every team has that "rival"). This means (as Stark wrote) that the Mets will play the MFYs 3 more times than anybody else while the Nationals play the Orioles 3 extra times (some rivals--none of those games sell-out) thus putting the Mets at a competitive disadvantage.
  13. Here it is: Cardinals--6 times Marlins--5 times Nationals--5 times Braves--5 times Tigers--4 times Astros--4 times MFY--2 times University of Michigan--none
  14. A lot of Twitter noise that Jose is about to sign with Miami.
  15. Papelbon to the MFPs. Resign Omir!
  16. MLB Network has a new show on the '86 post-season debuting on Wednesday night (11/9) at 9 PM: 9:00 p.m. MLB Network Special "A Postseason to Remember: 1986" A look back at the 1986 postseason The Times says that John McNamara discusses his decisions from the Series: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/08/sports/baseball/former-red-sox-manager-john-mcnamara-recalls-final-out-that-wasnt-to-be.html?ref=sports
  17. Thanks metirish. I listened to him when the Mets played Texas this year and he was very nostalgic about the Mets of his youth. Based on his longevity with Texas and the discrepancy in talent, I doubt he'd take the job if offered, especially to be the #2 guy.
  18. Dropping pitches overseas is Ronny Paulino.
  19. Charlie Slowes is the lead radio announcer for the Nationals and Eric Nadel is the lead guy for Texas and they're both good. As ex-New Yorkers, they might want to go back to NY even if it means being the #2 guy.
  20. According to Rubin's survey of beat writers for opposing teams, there is no interest in Jose: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/36355/opposing-views-on-reyes Let's hope so.
  21. Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa are coming up... The father of Gus Ramsey, friend of Bill Simmons, has a collection of autographs of every Mets player... ever. It's for sale: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130595850286 http://gusramsey.blogspot.com/

  24. LaRussa said that after the loss to the Mets (I assume the big comeback in September), it was "as low as you could go."
  25. Commissioner LaRussa: I thought of that too, Edgy. I hope not.
