  1. I also like Herrera. That slow pitch got a few outs last season although the Mets think that the pitch loses its effectiveness with familiarity. He was half the "bounty" for F. Rodriguez so I'm surprised that they gave up on him this quickly.
  2. New York magazine has a "workplace confidential" edition--anonymous "confessions" written by an employee. One of the articles is written by a Met. http://nymag.com/news/features/insiders/mets-2012/ Who do you think it is? The writer mentions Wright so unless Wright did this to make us think it's not him, then it's not Wright. Dickey is a logical choice.
  3. Matthews is an ersatz columnist.
  4. Why should he retire with such an illustrious record: labor problems; drug use that he ignored; worthless all-time records; never-ending playoff expansion; World Series home-field advantage decided by an exhibition game; playoff games that end past midnight--he's the best!

Judging from the picture at Rotoworld, I don't know how Cedeno catches the ball since he doesn't have any eyes: http://www.rotoworld.com/player/mlb/774/ronny-cedeno

  7. We saw it on Xmas Day in IMAX and loved it (well, I did and my sons did--my wife thought it was loud and plotless). Non-stop action, some laughs, and a good cast. I thought it was worth spending the extra movie for IMAX. I say: "Choose to accept this Mission."
  8. Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt in the forth installment of the Mission Impossible franchise. He's joined by Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, and the lovely Paula Patton. What did you think?
  9. As RomComs go, it was better than most. A half-hour too long and as stated, the finale was contrived but Carrell and Gosling were great, I always like seeing Julianne Moore, there were lots of pretty girls and some laughs, too.
  10. Liked it a lot until the ending and then I didn't like it as much. I had trouble at first identifying which young male corresponded with the older version. The ending seemed contrived and unrealistic.
  11. I don't want the Nationals to get Fielder as he'd make them a strong contender right away. Tom Boswell doesn't want the Nationals to get him either: http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/nationals/prince-fielders-price-is-not-right-for-nationals-right-now/2011/12/28/gIQA5wZCNP_story.html
  12. Lewin is not good enough for the job. He did some Orioles games years ago and wouldn't shut up. He was also a cliche maniac. He moved on to Texas and from limited listening, he cut back on the cutsey stuff but he still talks too much. His work on FOX Saturday games was mediocre at best. He's also the radio voice of the SD Chargers.
  13. I don't like Coleman's PBP. He good at post-game and interviews but he's not much better than Hagin in keeping up with the game action and quickly interpreting it for the audience. He's good at banter and would work well with Howie in that respect but his solo innings would be weak. Sample is boring and Duquette would spend his time trying to show us how smart he is (as he does now). I wonder if these are the only interviewees because there are plenty of good PBP guys "out there" with a NY background that would love to work for a major league baseball team or the Mets.
  14. With the elimination of the Gulf Coast Mets, the Mets have 8 minor league teams. They quickly remind us that most teams have 7 but that doesn't eliminate the fact that there are now 25 or so fewer minor leaguers in the organization which makes it that much tougher to find the next Wright or Reyes. Sell the team Fred. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/37292/mets-slash-gcl-team

  18. Now smug Cardinals fans (sorry for the redundancy) will say "how can he leave the greatest baseball city in America" and "didn't he want to become the greatest Cardinal of all time" and "he's no Stan Musial." Right [u:2xhajz9b]after[/u:2xhajz9b] I wrote that, Will Leitch says: Will Leitch Albert should have retired a Cardinal. It is insane that he won't. But good Lord that's a ridiculous amount of money for a 32 year old 1B. and birdbrained Chris Reed If there was ever any doubt, it has now been erased for good: Stan Musial is and will remain the greatest #Cardinal of all time.
  19. Mets pass.

  21. Players for almost nothing... not a rejected Dire Straits lyric but today's Rule 5, or V, draft. Will the Mets get a keeper like Beato or a dud like Emaus?
  22. Andres Torres--he's a nice guy: http://blog.sfgate.com/thebigevent/2011/12/07/farewell-to-andres-torres-nicest-guy-on-the-planet/
  23. Nymr83 wrote: I'm very down on Big Pelf, I'd deal him for a reliever that I thought could help or a longshot prospect that someone else has given up on but the Mets think may still pan out. I don't think I've ever disliked a Met as much as I dislike Mike Pelfrey. He wears a Mets uniform so I hope he wins 30 games next year but for right now, I would be thrilled if he was no longer a Met and they got something in return for him. I know that there's a logical argument for keeping him but I don't care.
  24. Every Mets game in DC (when Jose was not on the DL). I'm sitting at Nationals Park on the 3B side, all the warm-ups have ended and nobody is on the field--the umps haven't even met yet--and I look over at the Mets dugout and Jose is in the on-deck circle looking at the field while taking swings. He couldn't wait to get out there.
  25. Santo became a lovable, sympathetic figure while Gil simply died young. Gil should have made it long ago.
